  1. To be fair to Trespasser, it was at least trying to do something that hadn't been done before in games, where as Sonic 06 only tried to be the proper successor to the original Sonic Adventure.

If it weren't for the broken physics (and a few questionable decisions like not allowing the Japanese language track without changing the 360's root language settings) I think I would like Sonic 06 more than SA1, SA2, Heroes or Shadow. Unleashed, maybe not, but it'd be a lot closer.

While it doesn't appeal to everyone, I like the storyline. Time paradoxes abound, and an interesting take on the Sonic world. There's also details that they really didn't have to put in, like establishing Soleanna as a Constitutional Monarchy, that made it seem like a more complete world. Maybe it's a little too serious overall given the subject matter, but at least it managed to be serious without making every drab and dark like Shadow or SatAM.

It was a return to form in terms of music, from the level music to excellent character themes (with a range of musical styles) and even though it was tainted slightly by Akon's presence, the return of Dreams Come True.

If the buddy characters had better gameplay, it would have been the perfect way to feature the entire Sonic cast without having multiple playthroughs like Sonic Heroes, just short little sections that they can help you through. People get their favourite characters, but they don't take up too much space, and the focus remains on the core cast. I won't defend how badly their play styles turned out, with the exception of Blaze, but in theory, it was a great idea.

And the whole bestiality idea was just incredibly childish. The kiss was a twist on the whole fairy tale idea of the princess being woken by a kiss from a hero, with the hero being woken by the princess instead. (Although I think it's the surrounding things that have the effect rather than the kiss itself, it's just effective symbolism.)
Screw all the people who cheapened it because they can't separate vague romantic themes from bestiality. Elise didn't have sex with Sonic. There was never anything remotely sexual about it. Some unrequited romance on Elise's part? Maybe, but there's no big problem with that. I've been listening to the Doctor Who fandom whine for 15 years about the same damn thing.

In the end, though, all this just makes me even more disappointed with Sonic 06 than the people who outright hate it, because if the gameplay and loading problems were fixed, it'd probably be among my favourite Sonic games of all time.

Except those usually have other, genuinely good qualities about them that obscure that sort of stuff and make it easier to forgive.

And according to my preferred theory of time travel, the predestination/time loop theory (which follows Novikov's self-consistency principle, and is also consistent with the story of Sonic '06 (up until the Last Story, where it all goes balls)), causality/ontological paradoxes aren't paradoxes at all, provided it's only information and not matter. Chaos Emeralds are matter, but... they're Chaos Emeralds. I'd assume they're immune to all kinds of crazy shit.

Ah, yet another person who tries to explain this mess which is Sonic '06 storyline. Poor kid.

  6. Wait, it's been a WHILE since I played the game, but Silver went back in time with the blue emerald, gave it to Elise, and then she had it with her until he somehow gets it back and goes back in time and gives it to her, am I getting this right?

I don't see the problem here, and how is Johnny B. Goode in BTTF a paradox? Unless you mean Marty playing it and then Marvin Berry calling up his cousin Chuck and showing it to him, Chuck Berry writes it, Marty learns it, goes back in time and plays it, oh wait I see.

    I solved it!

Its just a Stable Time Loop, which is present in many things. However, the real problem comes from the fact that since at least Sonic Adventure there had to be 8 real Chaos Emeralds, instead of 7. Though the same thing happens in BTTF (with the four DeLoreans present in 1955), chaos emeralds are very powerful gems that the cast repeatedly searches for; how did Elise's extra Blue Emerald go unnoticed all this time? Not to mention the problems that may be caused simply from having two of the same chaos emerald.

Ok if you are so clever, here is a puzzle for you.
If death of Elise would cause death of Iblis, why the fuck does he exist in the future, and what's more important, why Mephiles can not unite with him in the future?

You know, the sad part is, if you chop off the Sonic part of the game, you'd actually have a pretty decent Shadow The Hedgehog 2.

Shadow's story was probably the only tolerable part of the game outside of the music. Now, if only he didn't run like he had a broomstick rammed up his ass. Sega's never been able to make Shadow move as fluidly as he did in Sonic Adventure 2.

Seriously, the way that model moved looked slick as hell. Every model after that—Heroes, Shadow, 2006—all looked stiff and amateurish. I'd wonder if Sega has noticed this too, but looking at my last sentence, I just answered my own question.

It's kind of nice to see I'm not the only one who feels this way, minor as it may be. I loved watching Shadow run/skate/whatever around in SA2, and mainly used him in the Chao Gardens just to see that animation. It was awesome. Then it all went downhill from there.

Because Iblis was it's own being most likely. Besides that, there are two Mephiles. The future one (Which killed Sonic) and the past one (Who did nothing but stalk Shadow and died by his hand).

But anyway, I assume Elise's tears let out a pure version of Iblis that Mephiles could fuse with while when she died it was just released and wreaked havoc.

I've been through the entire story once before ('cause I'm a time travel nut) and all of it works, except for the Last Story. If you really, really, really want me to, I'll write a lengthy post explaining it all.

(Also, it's unknown whether death of Elise causes death of Iblis. Iblis exists in the future because Mephiles killed Sonic in the present, and Mephiles cannot unite with him in the future because he doesn't have all seven chaos emeralds.)

Not where I want to be.
Sonic (?): Coming summer of 2055...?
Pretty much everyone I've talked to feels the same way. I'm thinking it might even have been a deliberate decision on Sega's part.

Even if the plot wasn't terrible, even if the game was glitch free, even if the adventure fields weren't severly lifeless and overly large, even if all the character faults were fixed, it would still be a bad game for one reason: the level design. First off, it should NEVER take someone more than 7 minutes to legitimately clear a stage unless it's got some hardcore exploration going for it. Second, they're just not that good. Kingdom Valley often has you don't the same thing the exact same way. Crisis City is just a mess. That jungle stage is just ridiculous with how open it is that it could pass as Metroid. Wave Ocean is absurdly linear. Flame Core...actually Flame Core could be okay with some tweaking. It doesn't help that a lot of the stages suffer from "run here, kill enemies, run to next area and repeat" and just don't have enough life to them (Dusty Desert, White Acroplois) I won't get into gamplay, enemies, or bosses (although it is a testament for how forgettable they are when we can go 4 pages and no one mentions one other than Silver).

Crisis City is the best stage in the game, and far from a mess. It's one of the few levels in any 3D Sonic game where they actually used the environment to influence the level design. You didn't like the bit where you run through a building, smash through the glass and spring over to another building, which starts to collapse as you land in it? Well, I liked it.

It's the first level in the game. No shit.

I haven't played 06 since 06. :eng101: However these are still vividly remembered as if I had played them yesterday.

*Story was miserable. I kind of like Shadow's and Silver's doesn't insult me, but Sonic's awful. Elise gets kidnapped all the time and Sonic acts all awkward around her. It's embarassing to watch.
*Levels were miserable. There was nothing much memorable about them. The only ones I really liked were Crisis City and Kingdom Valley. I realised that the game had more options of what to do then the SA2 or Heroes but I had no interest in exploring. Every level was so very bland and boring.
*I loathed the times I had to carry Elise through a level (there are two I think). I enjoyed the Werehog. don't mind fishing with Big or the gun/vehicle from Shadow. Even Silver's is okay (except the ball puzzle) but Elise as a character really rubbed off wrong, so having to see her all the time and use her retarded shield annoyed the shit out of me.
*The Adventure Fields were horrible. It was very easy to get lost in Soleanna (both of them) because there weren't many distinguishable parts of the city and the Forest was a giant thing full of nothing. The inhabitants were very bland too, besides Sonic Man.
*Speed sections were too loose. It was impossible to like them. I admit Kingdom Valley's section is impressive though.
*Sonic was too slow. I remember thinking Blaze was faster than him and watching videos after that does give that impression.
*Ring bombs, though that's more of an artifact from Heroes then a problem from 06. Poor Rouge and Tails.
    *Loading!
    *Eggman.

This is true. I loved how he moved.

But the Red Emerald wasn't even in the damn game until the last story!
