You know, if Shadow had been a completely different game, it might have been awesome.

I didn't vote, but I thought Shadow was cool at the time, mainly through the influence of Chaos Control and getting to try out Devil May Cry.

"Dr. Eggman: The World's Not Enough" sounds badass. I can't imagine the gameplay, but it reeks of awesome character depth. Actually, any other character with his or her game would have a lot of character depth in it.

To me it sounds like a James Bond movie title. I think a theme like that surrounding Eggman trying to take over the world would be amazing!

I think Sega already has an impressive cast of characters they can use for new and interesting stories and gameplay mechanics. I believe there's just so much untapped potential in all of Sonic's various friends, and as long as Sega is willing to take a risk every now and then, I think it would really pay off. Seeing Tails in an Ape Escape-styled gadget platformer? Sweet! Knuckles in an action/adventure RPG where he discovers the history of his people? Super! Rouge in a Metal Gear Solid-style mission-based stealth game? Oh yeah. Eggman in a strategy game where you build and control various robotic minions? Cool! And this is just stuff off the top of my head.

They don't even have to be fully-fledged games, necessarily. I'd even settle with spinoff games like that on an iOS device, just to see them try new ideas the right way (as opposed to, well, Sonic 06).

Did we play the same game? Don't get me wrong I'm very loyal to modern Sonic games, heck, Sonic Colors is second best sonic games I ever played (first being S3&K). But that game was a torture to play. And that says a lot since I usually enjoy (to an extend) pretty much any Sonic game I play. I've beaten Rivals, Riders and Unwiished but this...
So frustrating. So stupid. So repetitive and dull. It is near unplayable. It's so bad that I didn't even finish and of it's storylines and I've beaten pretty much all Sonic Games I played. I even 100%-ed Sonic R.
ShTH is hands down the worst Sonic game (of main series) I've ever played and I played Unwiished!

When I played it the first time when it was new, I actually had fun in some of the levels. I dunno why, but it was kind of fun shooting things and what-not as Shadow (and this is coming from a guy who normally avoids shooters, mainly). Guess cause it was a little different or something. The controls did take some time to get used to, especially when it comes to shooting, but I started to adjust. The levels where you had to explore to search for various things like in that Digital Circuit level (I think they were bombs), yeah...those blew chunks. When I tried playing a new game second time, I couldn't get into it. Pretty much wore off. The plot is definitely an eyebrow raiser, but eh...whatever. It was fun while it lasted, at least to me.

That said, I never knew about the polls, and it does make me wonder how would the other games played out. Though considering how much of a "mystery" character Shadow was at the time, I guess him being the winner was bound to happen, and I think Sonic Heroes deserves a good amount of the blame. Oh well. I still think Shadow is a decent character, and I can understand them trying to add something to the mix to make him more different than Sonic, but in the end, it just didn't work out.

The only thing that really killed a Shadow reboot stems from Heroes.

While yes, having Shadow die sealed SA2's ending pretty well. His return was treated in the most half-assed way possible: he has amnesia. It's the worst plot device ever now because it's so lazy. AND... he's a robot clone. Him being melancholy all the time was also a radical paradigm from him being a bit of a maniacal jackass in SA2.

He's since improved in that now they play him up as a jackass who doesn't really rub shoulders with Sonic unless it benefits him, and he works with Eggman, again, if it benefits him. He's taken root in the gray area between hero and evil, which I guess works well enough without getting anymore serious or trying complex character in a kids game/franchise.

Yeah, Shadow had his moment, now he's found his place. He has fallen from grace and is becoming just another extra character in the background that we don't care about anymore.

Knuckles probably won't get his own game. He had a lot of focus in the Genesis games, and Sonic Adventure 1 focused heavily on the history of his ancestors. Knuckles Chaotix, etc, etc... I'm counting it. Knuckles all ready had plenty of spot light time.

I think Sega is afraid to make an Eggman game. Great idea, but there would be many challenges to face to make it happen without it becoming as pointless as Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine.

...What about a Chaotix Game? They haven't gotten nearly enough attention, and I think fans would actually enjoy a game like that.

A traditional point and click-style Chaotix Detective Agency game on XBLA, PSN, and Steam. I'd buy that :D

  10. Ditto. Especially if they get the guys who wrote Colours to do the story.

I would probably kill for a Knuckles game at the moment. Always enjoyed playing as him in 3D. (Well except for Sonic 06 where everyone played like arse, even though playing as Omega was fun because he was so broken) I remember playing Prototype (someone else's save and game etc)and there was a point where I ran up a building and jumped off and glided or flew for a while and I couldn't help saying "This is what Sonic games should be like". Which has become an in joke between me and my mate, where all games are "This is what Sonic games should be like". Back to Knuckles, a sort of free roaming, platforming collect-a-thon set on Angel Island would be nice. With pointless acheivements based on finding certain landmarks from S3&K.

I actually enjoyed The Shadow Game. I know its basically a slightly fixed version of Heroes, with awful weapons and vehicle controls, But it did have this intro: How can anyone hate a game with this in it? Delightfully mentally hilarious. Kinda wouldn't mind a second The Shadow Game. Get rid of the weapons and give the vehicles Halo controls. Also have a bit where lightning strikes a loop de loop and it explodes into a pile of rubble.

I don't even know how you would do an Eggman game. Unless its based on Gamma gameplay. Or maybe just a Badnik maker where you watch Sonic just run straight through it. And then you can buy upgrades for it with the rings Sonic loses?

Despite the fact that the story line was really stupid and the fact that Shadow cusses every flippin' second, it was actually a pretty fun game. I never heard of this poll before now, but I think I would have voted for Knux.

I'm also wondering why the Chao wasn't on that list, I want a Chao game! :3

I remember reading somewhere where Sonic Team or Yuji Naka wanted Shadow to have his own game since the inception of SA2. That poll was pointless and made people believe they actually had a part in choosing this....lol! Anyways I also have never beaten Shadow because of that damn level with the bombs that are impossible to defuse in time...and the fact that The Ark is the shitiest Knuckles treasure hunt level of all time.

For the record you can skip any level in your playthroughs except the first one and the five potential last ones (if you're trying to unlock the last story). The bombs ain't too hard to do. The best thing is to grabs a vaccum gun if you're doing the Hero mission or just stock up on ammo for the Dark one. The level itself is 'open' but the basic route is just a plain circuit.

I voted for Tails, based solely on Tails Adventures.

    I loved that game. :<
