Project Shadow (live-action/CGI fan film)

I like this Short film. This is probably the best animation we'll get from a fan film.

 

Not going to lie, I started tearing up towards the end.

I really like how they explained that Maria's disease prevented her from going to Earth with Shadow. If they handle it like that in Sonic 3 I'll be content.

 

It’s definitely the best I’ve seen so far.

The short was well done, voice acting was convincingly emotional. Gerald Robotniks voice was a perfect Robotnik, reminded me of SA1 slightly but with more depth.

 

Honest opinion:
I don't think I was able to get over the dub. It was actually super unbearable to the point I ended up just muting at a few points. Could also be a translation issue, or even just the script itselft. so many of the lines just sounded very wrong to my ear.

I am sad.

 

Idk I thought it was fine

 

I enjoyed this a lot.

While the voices were basically fine (nice cameo too), there were a number of lines throughout the film that were unnaturally worded in English.

"...Robotnik is turning the ultimate life form in a fluffy pet!"
"Run around the world..."
"But I would be very happy just to live there."
"...I didn't get fast..."
"Think on how many men would still be here..."
"I think I was not clear enough..."
"I think I'll throw up..."

Besides these hiccups, this was pretty dang good for a fan film! Props to all involved.

One line I do like: "It's impossible to read a sentence if the words are always moving around."

 

As someone who would probably make these same mistakes, I can't quite see what's wrong with these. I mean, I feel that there might be something unnatural about them, but I can't really grasp it. How could the bolded ones have been better worded?

 

Most (if not all) of these sentence problems are just grammatical errors that could be fixed with just one word change; for example:

"...Robotnik is turning the ultimate life form in a fluffy pet!"
would be changed to be:
"...Robotnik is turning the ultimate life form into a fluffy pet!"

IMO I think the dub was perfectly solid, with my only critique being that sometimes Maria, Gerald, and the GUN soldiers' lines sounding unnatural at times. I thought Shadow and the GUN General sounded great throughout, and it's particularly nice hearing a more open and emotional Shadow that we don't normally get.

 

It was ok, impressive for a fan work, but if sega put this out I’d feel meh about it. Voice acting felt a bit off, Maria looked odd to me, and they made the gun soldiers comically evil.
Great for people who don’t already know the origins of Shadow.

 

They are people who murdered a space station full of people because their boss told them too , they are in fact comically evil.

 

I wouldn't / couldn't say that i'd present this to someone as their first experience with Shadow and "The Definitive Shadow Origin" since it's tied closer to headcanons than canon material.

 

Whatever you say man but that isn’t how real people act, and in the past through sonic X we are shown that the soldier who shot Maria was presented as a man who lived with regret for having to carry out his orders. Not actively searching them out taunting them while trying to kill them.
