Not sure myself; I just thought there was reasoning behind the picture's existance, being Chimpo's avatar and all. =P

@Chimpo and Koi... whatever: I was referring to this post on that SEGA blog:

    which they now altered.

... I am starting to believe they actually READ THIS THREAD. O_o

Of course they read this thread; in fact, most companies have specific positions dedicated to going out and reading forums for fan feedback. I mean, ArchangelUK is an employee of SEGA Europe, so it's not like it'd be setting a precedent.

Is it really that surprising? This happens all the time.

I'm all for the game being on a disc so I can keep it for what it is and have some (Hopefully) sweet boxart to admire, but that also means the game will be over $40 more than if it were an XBLA game.

Doesn't explain all the stuff the fans didn't want these past 10 years, though.

    Because it's retarded and unfunny?

The games in the last 10 years did have all the stuff the fans wanted; they just had a different target demographic (small children, mainly) than they do now (us). I thought that much became was obvious by this point.

Am I the only one that's still in disbelief that such a game will wind up existing? Will this game TRULY be as similar to the classics as we want it to? I'm pumped for this game and I hope it will be good, but I think those hoping for a game that's made almost as if Sonic 3 was the last game released shouldn't get their hopes up too high. I mean, we haven't seen any gameplay yet but I really can't imagine completely changing the group of people they target their games for just because a couple of old fans want it. I'm betting it will still have a silly storyline, cutscenes, and characters besides Sonic & Robotnik in some form, even if Sonic's the star of the show.

I dunno, it just seems a bit unreal to me. I guess I'll have to see it to believe it, but my current guess is that this game will still be an all 2D adventure, just not one that mimmicks the Genesis games as much as the trailer made us think.

    HD Sonic 1 WTFlame? :v:

Anyway, I still remain skeptical. Probably will until the game's released. I'm glad this was announced and all. I'm just being cautious.

Frankly, I'd rather pay the higher price if it meant a game I'll be able to play years down the line. Also, it'll mean they have far more storage space to play with and the production budget should be more extensive. Full boxed game, please!

I actually didn't say it correctly. Sally's DiC's design of the squirrel animal we see. And as evidenced by the pilot of the SatAM, they apparently went simultaneously into production.

Count me in on that, Solid. This is almost too good to be true; and it really makes me wonder if this will really meet our expectations. And really, I'm amazed. Sega's becoming cool again, guys.

  13. I don't think they will do something silly and throw in a storyline in this one. Even if they do, look at Unleashed. That was a great story, except for the Werehog. And of course there will be other characters. I'd be quite dissapointed if Tails didn't follow Sonic around. And Knuckles has to be in there. And they are not changing the target market, they are trying to expand it. old fan and new fan elements can go together without clashing.
It's not to good to be true, you're just reading too much into it. All they've said is it's going to be 2D.

True, there's value in that and there's also potential for SEGA to fill up more of the disc with content that couldn't be done on a downloadable game so you're right there.

I'm not amazed just yet. I mean, when I first saw the trailer I went ballistic, but now I'm entering reality and don't want to assume anything until I see solid proof that this game will truly be classic Sonic-incarnate.

I don't think I'm reading too much into anything, actually. If anything I'm not reading into anything at all. What I'm trying to say is that those who are expecting completely Genesis era visuals and music, Sonic to be his old chubby self again, the exact same or similar physics to the original Sonic games, etc, are setting themselves up for disappointment. Unless I see any of that stuff with my own eyes I really won't be able to believe it. I'll believe that this will play like an all day levels Unleashed at this point, which isn't bad, but I just want to see more.

I don't mean to be a negative nancy I just don't want to set myself up for disappointment again.

Knuckles has to be guarding the Master Emerald (or failing at doing so).

To be honest, I think that Knuckles should be in this, at least as an unlockable character. It'd be really nice to be able to play as him in 2D again, and I bet that if this game is as classic as it seems SEGA'll be able to whip up an excuse for the Master Emerald to be stolen, taken, or broken again.

I'm not getting my hopes too high, but it seems that by the video, Sega might be getting their senses back. This has much potential, but the proof that they could make it work is yet to be seen... so hopefully it'll be at TGS or something.

BTW, I wouldn't mind if the game looked like how Sumo Digital interprets the Sonic series design (Unleashed character designs with classic enviornments and badniks). If the game is anything like that, I'll probably be sold by the time the first screenshot is shown. =3

EDIT: Sorry if you guys read it like that. Fast Reply freaked out on me =P

Even though all we saw was (presumably) Sonic running accompanied by a dash trail as seen in Rush and Unleashed and the Sonic 1 title card with a filter over it?

Honestly, that first point was enough to make me suspicious of this.

See, the thing is, that happens with every game. SEGA show a trailer that looks awesome and the final game winds up being balls (Or at the very best "okay"). I'm not automatically assuming that this will be horrible, and it's good that you're keeping an eye out and not getting your hopes too high, but it's just that, well, SEGA know how to make a good trailer. They managed to make Shadow the Hedgehog look appealing, let alone the game that everyone has been waiting for.

I remember when they managed to make Sonic '06 look almost like an homage to the old cartoons. That one trailer they had with the scene of Sonic poking the robot with his foot accompanied by cartoony sound effects, along with clips of what looked like exciting and fun gameplay.

  20. ...I was just wondering...

Has anyone thought this happened in relation to SEGA saying that they couldn't appease all the Sonic fans with one game?

This is definitely geared towards us retro fans in mind, so its not to say that SEGA will make another game like this one right away. They will want to appease their kiddy audience too, with games like S&M@TOWG, and S&SASR, which they are doing along side the announced game.

Will they continue this way? Having two separate teams working on old-school games and the kiddy games?

Or will they do an alternating format where they release a old-school game one year, and a kiddy game the next?

EDIT: HOLY HELL. I predicted they could be making a 2D game around a month ago. POINT FOR ME! :D
