I don't see how they can be so positive about it when they say that the game is most like Shadow.

Wow, let's hope it's actually coming for PC. Because I'm not buying any of the next-gen consoles any time soon. =D

Heh... "Hard to believe now, but Shadow was popular once." XD

The magazine fails for many, many reaosns.

    - calling Sonic R and Heroes horrible. Hell, even Spinball was decent. (Name a better pinball game. Especially at the time)
    - Calling the conception of Miles Tails Prower "blasphemy". GTFO
    - They tell us Dr. Kintobar, a pre-evil Robotnik, gave Sonic his sneakers. Get your comic shit out of Sega Sonic plz.
    - All they do is bash on old Sonic games on the bottom portion, and make them sound so much worse than they ever were

However, we can gather from the article that the lava creature resembling Chaos is indeed named "Iblis". This means that Sonic probably triggers it unwittingly somehow, which affected Silver's future, so he comes back to stop Sonic (Which of course, makes him look like a bad guy to Sonic until the truth is revealed). Please quote this if the story turns out like that.

Also Guess Who, they say the game "looks" like Shadow. As in the look of it such as character designs and settings like ruined cities. They say it actually plays much closer to Adventure.

Now, the game looks sex to be sure. Multiple paths in levels is a good sign as well. The game looks every bit as good as the Adventure series. I will definitley be buying it, and am very much looking forward to it. There are some things mentioned in this article that make it even more tantilizing, such as:

    - "We've made the concept completely new but reused some classic stages. So you'll recognize some of your favourite stages from old Sonic games." FUCK YES!

    However, I have one nitpick:

    - "It's going to be much more story based, cinematic and realistic"

Now, I often say that Sonic should not be too steeped in reality, and I do somewhat stand by it. However, if one thinks back, pretty much all of the zones in old Megadrive games have been based on realistic settings. As such, the reality brought froth by the later games actually isn't such a dramatic change after all. But then one must consider this:

    - They called what appeared to be Kingdom Valley Zone "Green Hill Zone". Oshit. Only thing is, that looks nothing like Green Hill Zone.

This is the other side of the coin. Green Hill Zone had realistic basis (A lake, mountians, waterfalls, grass valley, etc.), but it had features that made it surreal (Like the checkered patterns). This mesh of surreal with real gave Sonic its charm. However, this new "Green Hill Zone" looks completely realistic and believable as a real world location. Take the rings and springs and stuff out of there, and it would be fit for a realistic game. To be honest, I don't feel that's what Sonic's atmosphere is supposed to be. For example: compare Zones from Sonic Adventure 2 (all of which were rediculously realistic) to Zones from Sonic Heroes. Sonic Heroes had the feel of Sonic zones down pat. They were all based on realiostic settings, but they had that surrealistic air to them. Seriously, think about it. Really think about it. Completely regardless of how they played, you must admit: The general look and feel of Sonic Heroes aesthetics, level design, and storyline were miles and miles closer to the Megadrive games then Sonic Adventure 2's "OFUX REALITY AND EDGY STORYLINE" shit. Sonic Team seems to be pushing for ultra realistic stuff in the games of late, and quite frankly, it bugs me. At any rate, I ask you to think about what I just said, and I rest my case. make of it what you will.

The game does ultimately look like a tantilizing package and a nice 15th anniversary gift.

    In other news:

Sonic Wildfire: Looks like Sonic and Prince of Persia had a bastard child. Odd concept, but it looks fun enough. One might say it looks like some Wii tech demo, but honestly, that could be said for just about any Wii game. We'll see how this one turns out.

Sonic Rivals: Bleh. Looks mediocre. The concept is boring enough, but the fact that it is in 2.5D ruins it. 2.5D alone ruins the point of having 2D. It takes away the ability to make the level design truly diverse, turning the experience into more of a visceral rush in visuals than an actual gameplay experience. And racing people ala Sonic 2 in that confined medium doesn't really warrant $30 in my opinion.

Oh, and thank you for sharing this with us.

Sonic Heroes is terribly gay. I can't believe I spent money on this shit =/

As for Sonic Next (Or whatever the fuck its name is), this game actually looks quite decent. Hopefully it'll be released on PC. If not, then I'll probably get it when I buy an XBox 360 on the next summer vacation =P

Actually, the point I was trying to make was how Sonic games should be surrealism based upon reality, and how Heroes nailed that as far as looks go, especially compared to the likes of SA2 and Shadow. Not how great Sonic Heroes was.

But for the record, yes, I loved Sonic Heroes and consider it the best 3D Sonic along with Adventure, and sod the rest of you up the pooper.

I understand your point and all, but you also gotta realise the fact that Sonic Heroes is gay by the terms of gameplay and story. The team system is retarded, and the dialogue is terrible. I would've liked it if there were no teams bullshit or gay cutscenes (or story for that matter) =P

As for the whole reality thing, I actually like it. Believe me, if they kept having stuff exactly the same as they were in Sonic 1 throughout all those years, you would've got bored of this shit by now. I know I would =P

I disagree on all of your points on Heroes. You also have to realize the difference between opinion and fact. Also, about the story: The simple nature of it all reflects back on the simple stories of the Megadrive games.

As for the change stuff, you may have a point there. However, they are doing their reality shit too much. We will soon get bored of this new Sonic stuff if they don't change it as well, then. Also, it is possible to integrate change and innovation within the classic Sonic atmosphere. Hate to bring it up again, but Heroes, for example :P Or Sonic Rush. Same looks and feel, same gameplay, but new takes or additions on it. I consider both games very succesful Sonic titles.

As I said in the IRC channel:

    SA = SA2 > Rush > ShTH > SH > Riders

Despite ShTH's bad reputation, it actually mixed (quite well) the feel of SA2 with a healthy dose of "slow-down-and-pay-attention" platforming (gasp, you mean like the CLASSIC GAMES?). The gunplay meshed a lot better into the gameplay that the Teamplay in Heroes did. The plot to it was actually rather interesting too. Even better, it got rid of that whole, you know, linear gameplay thing. 327 different ways to beat the game is about as far from linear as you can get. With various ways of completing each individual stage, that adds to the splitting as well. Meanwhile, Heroes had effectively the same game played 4 only-slightly-different ways.

All in all, Shadow was a better game than Heroes.

    Working on my art!
Now now, Sonic Heroes wasn't so bad. I mean flawed yes, but at the time it was the first non port or remake seen in about 3 years and it was kind of fun. Atleast it wasn't as bad as Shadow (That game had potential, although Sonic Team cut to many corners and made some bad decisions making this an overall bad game)

  15. I'll give the new Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic Wildfire a shot. However, Sonic the Hedgehog will have to be outstandingly, unbelievably awesome to convince me to buy an XBox 360. If it comes out for the PC, I'll be much more inclined to buy it. Since I plan to buy a Wii (I still don't like that name), I'll likely end up with Wildfire anyway.

I'm willing to give them both a shot since they each look good in their own ways. Fuck Sonic Rivals though.

    -edit-

Forgot a future tense verb. =P

I agree with that, and I didn't like the game much, but the levels are quite nice and would fit well in the old Sonic universe. I'd also like to see a game with similar visuals, but with normal (almost always fast-paced) Sonic-y gameplay and no annoying voices.

And with the old character designs if possible, but if everything else is good I'm fine.

Guess Who, I was refering to Heroes, not Next Gen. Heroes was relatively low on the whole "lol I r immortal alien created suspended animated angst hog with space-time altering powers". All the game did was establish that he had been cloned. Other than that, it was classic "frarharhar I am Eggman stop me" fare, with a little suprise twist for longtime fans at the end with the Metal Sonic deal.

It is the game that turned Shadow into a emo amnesiac fuckwad and set up the basic story for his game (oh no I have *spilled* the memories I must regain my past).
