NEW Virtua Fighter

Discussion in 'General Sega Discussion' started by Chimpo, Nov 6, 2024.

  1. It looks absolutely stunning if a little slow ( a bit like VF3) hope it's speeded up a little for the final game.
I have to say SEGA on fire at the moment.

Its like the old CSK days again

Well the whole thing is kind of just following Tekken's lead by going home-first with more content now. Have to view Harada effectively goading them into doing this on Twitter in another light now lol

Been playing so much VF5:FS in anticipation for the release in 10 days. Whenever a fighting game that I love drops, the very first few days (or if I'm lucky, weeks or months as was the case with Dragon Ball Fighter Z) are when it's the easiest to find matches and the matches you find aren't filled with tip-top tier players who simply play online all day and night. It's always a race to get as much out of the game before the audiences dies off. I normally main either Akira, Jacky, or Shun when I play VF, but I dabble in just about everyone else. To get the most out of the launch next week, I've been going through and putting in spare time with the other characters I play less of and I've got to say Kage has the sickest moves in all of VF5. I especially love Ogami Watari, although it's hard to get in situations like that where you can use the move especially with real players. I have no idea what the actual martial arts reason for the little walk along the fence would be, or why he'd hold his hands that way, or what "namuuuuuu" is supposed to mean, but it's so fucking cool. I've always wanted to be decent at Kage going back to the first VF but I feel like he's a hard character to play, personally. What's funny is I see Akira get built up as this impossibly hard character to play, and since the first VF I have found him one of the easiest to pick up. I guess 30 years of muscle memory for his trickier moves and combos have done that for me.

EDIT: seems "Namu" and the hand sign come from namu-myoho-renge-kyo, a chant Buddhists do to positively influence their karma to help them overcome an obstacle or enemy.

    • Wolf Hawkfield reveal trailer
    • No real gameplay footage, just an overview of what some of the goals are for the new project. Mainly fleshing out character backstories.
    • VF5 R.E.V.O getting a multiplatform launch for PS5, Xbox, and Switch 2
    • Cross-Play Multiplayer support
    • New content coming to R.E.V.O as well, but those details will be revealed at a later date.
    • Boxer character tease

Man it's so poetic that they reveal the new wolf on the same day Tekken 8 reveals fahkumram. It's like about as direct a comparison as you can get, and the difference in reception is night and day -- VF players hyped to the moon what they're hearing about, while Tekken 8 players are pissed.

It's no surprise with the disaster that Season 2 is so far. Harada and Murray seem absolutely tone deaf to the state of the game and what people actually want. Not only that, they're being dismissive about the complaints. It's a very arrogant approach from the Tekken team.

VF6 needs to be the savior of the 3D genre because all of the success from Tekken 7 and unchecked competition is clearly going to their heads.

Wow, are we eating good right now. Hope Ultimate Showdown crossplay comes alongside the Switch 2 launch next month and expands the playerbase that much more.

Love the direction and depth they're exploring with Wolf's new design. His "coming out of retirement" backstory seems to confirm a significant time gap (both fictional and real-life!) between entries.

I've been thinking about this all day. I'm not a wrestling fan at all, never watched it ever. But I lived through the 90's, and I remember when NWO wolfpack was goddamn everywhere. Even someone like me who didn't watch wrestling saw the T-shirts and the toy commercials and stuff. Sega leaning into the throwback attitude era aesthetic for Wolf is so fucking cool, like holy shit. It makes me wonder what direction they'll take everyone else. Honestly, I'm most excited for Kage even though I rarely play as him. Sega's history with Ninjas is legendary, I want them to do him so right. I imagine Jacky's reveal will also be incredible, given he has the cockiest, most in-your-face attitude in the series. Since he's basically Sonic the Hedgehog, I'm hoping he's as cool as Shadow was during Shadow Gens.
