    Sonic 1 Competiton - Who knows their classics?

    A little game I thought up to see who's best at Sonic 1 on S2B.

    Points are awarded for:

    1)Clearing

    A point shall be awarded for every 10 badniks killed or each boss defeated.
    Counter begins at 0.

    2)Time

    A point shall be awarded for every 1000 imgame score points awarded for time bonus.
    COunter begins at 0.

    3)Rings

    A point shall be awarded for every 10 rings that makes it to the end on an act or special stage with you.
    Counter begins at 0.

    4)Emeralds

    A point is taken away for every special stage entered, unless the emerald is acheived at the end.
    Counter begins at 9

    5)Secret Knowledge

    A point is awarded for every secret located in the game.
    Counter begins at 0

    6)Acrobatics

    EDITED:
    1 point for every time you impress me.

    7)Mortalilty

    A point is awarded for every life remaining after Final Zone.
    Counter starts at -3. -3 is awarded for mortality if Game Over occurs (unless you use a continue)

    Make a .GMV of your own game of Sonic 1. Once the file is created, either post it on this topic or get it to me through MSN ([email protected]) I'll score it and post High Scores here. If enough people show interest, I'll make a small website with all of the movie files on it.

    Get a movie recording Gens here if you don't have one.

    I'm using the non-marked version of Sonic the Hedgehog on SonicStuff to watch and score the movies, so try and use that one to record them.

    I look forward to watching you all play.

    This sounds fun. You should also do this for Sonic 2. I'm better at it, but the final boss will kill my score. S3&K would be very good.

    I'll win with my acrobatics alone. ever since I was 5 I've mastered the green hill zone. I know every badnik, so bouncing along them will be easy. :D

    Maybe im going insaine, but my gens outputs *.gir files. That is unless, gens does that and that's the output it produces, in which case I'll shut up about it.

    I hate LZ act 3. It allways gives me more problems then any other level.

    Newb question. How do I record a video in gens? I have no such software (I did, however, download the converter you put up a link for) to record videos. Other then that this should be interesting, I'm in, but I'd much prefer sonic 2 or sonic 3&k.

    I won't be bothering :) If this was Sonic 2 or even better, S3&K I would give it a shot. But I pretty much suck at S1.

    There's always going to be a select few who wipe the floor with everyone else. No point.

    I think SCD might be my best game, not sure.

    It's not the converter you want. You want the actual emulator.

    Well the point I think it has is to see who, and to have a bit of fun. Nobody's forcing you to play.

    Am I safe in assuming everyone else is playing, or would Sonic 2 be better?

    I think you should hold this competition for each game and go in chronological order from Sonic 1 onwrads. Even if you aren't too good at a certain game you could at least have a go.

    Anyway, count me in. I'll try and send you the video tomorrow because I'll have time to have a go at it then.

    2 questions:
    1. Are you counting the rings that are in the special stages?
    2. Do the emeralds give points?

    Anyway, I'm going to try. I probably won't win, (Or get anywhere close for that matter) but It'll be fun to see how I do.

    The place with the shield and ring box or the place with the extra life and 15-odd rings in GHZ might be considered secret. Anyway, I'm in, and I'll be making a vide assuming I can get this thing to work.

    Ok, I've finished. Damn, it's been awhile since I've played this game. Oh well, I just want to see my score. The other games should be easier for me. Could you post a ROM link for all the games that will be in the competition? Thanks.

    p.s. I have it in ZIP because it "can't upload" GMV.

    Ok, I'll answer a few questions here.

    Anything from a shield in a tree to the url of a beta hidden in Star Light Zone.

    1. Yes
    2. Hadn't thought of that. Yes, each gives one point.

    If someone wants to think up a marking scheme for it, I'll be happy to give it a score. I won't be making a system until Everyone's finished with Sonic 1. Also .hack, I don't have the first clue with what to do with a .torrent, but I'm happy to mark an AVI.

    I'll put the marks up as soon as I can.

    EFIT: I want to change the Acrobatics scoring. It's now 1 point for anything impressive.

    I have a GMV of S3&K, sonic+tails, all chaos emeralds, no supers, 2 hours 8 minutes if you want to mark it.

    Send it to me when this has dies down actually. I've just spent an hour scoring one playthrough of Sonic 1 (Galvatron's). Scores are going to be put in my sig.
