Sonic the Hedgehog Genesis was deplorable in every conceivable way, pairing up a half-assed physics engine with horrible MIDI music and NES-era PSG-based sound effects that were deplorably programmed. Everything about the game—sound, graphics, handling, execution—was an absolute disaster, and a single person was able to succeed at the task that an entire group of people could not in the form of Sonic the Hedgehog GBA. Nothing about it is good, and nothing will ever make it good.

If I had to pick a second choice, I'd probably jump the popular bandwagon and say Sonic Labyrinth. While I agree that Sonic 06 was bad, there is definitely far, far worse.

I'm gonna go ahead and say Sonic The Hedgehog Genesis, mainly for the same reasons as Tweaker, shortly followed by Sonic Heroes and Shadow.
Why? They were shit, and too repetetive. And glitch filled.

I'm going with the Tiger Electronics... Interesting - I seem to have had an LCD game not in the wiki. It had art on it similar to the first game, but only a single button, like the adaptation of Sonic 2. I distinctly remember the background having these large red things in it that I don't see in any listed in the wiki. The only memorable thing about playing it was the complete lack of feedback the game provided you. There was seriously no way to tell what was going on in that game.

If you don't like that answer/runner up: Sonic Jam for the Game.com.

Sonic 1 Genesis was inexcusable. Especially considering that the unofficial port is vastly superior.
Sonic '06 had some good moments. Silver's levels weren't too great, nor were Shadows.
I also disliked Sonic Blast for the Game Gear and Master System where Sonic/Knuckles take up so much of the screen. -_-

I never really played through Shadow as I heard it was shit.

EDIT: The official Genesis emulator for the Dreamcast version of Sega Smash Pack had terrible sound emulation, which made Sonic 1 sound like pure shit. That's up there on the list, imo.

My least favorite game will always be Shadow the Hedgehog. Nothing deviates further from what makes Sonic great then that game. Every other Sonic game I've got I did not feel like it was a complete waste of money and time. (Even 06 had some merit to it, as little as it may be) But Shadow made me feel bad that my parents generously shelled out their hard earned money to get it for me. I played through one story and never played it again.

I'm tempted to pick Sonic Genesis, also, as it is an easy target. But I don't think it really counts as a bad Sonic game. Sure, it is a bad game (as in bad programming, physics, etc), but the Sonic elements that are present are from a good game.

For a bad Sonic game, I.e. one whose Sonic elements fall the most short, I have to pick G Sonic (Sonic Blast). I've never seen anything so uninspired and devoid of creativity in my entire life. From level names, to special stage concept, to badnik design, to music, to level layout... the list goes on. The G must stand for "godawful". Somari the Adventurer is better than this pile.

Of course I may just hate it cos I had to beat every stupid mission in SADX to get it, and then it sucked...

Sonic Adventure 2- a bad game in itself, and the start of the current trend.

Most people would say Sonic 06' or Sonic Genesis, but I don't consider those games.

My least favorite was Sonic Adventure 2/Battle. Why? Because that's where it just got ridiculous-2 story modes that were pretty much the same levels with different names, different characters that would function the exact same way, horrible story, bad voice acting, et cetera. The worst part, however, is the constantly changing characters, since the game forces you to change between the three characters (or really three game modes of running forward, finding randomly placed emeralds, and walking around in a slow ass mech) and constantly switches up the gameplay, which just really ruins the whole experience. The biggest redeeming factor is the Chao Garden. I used to rent the game just to raise my angel and demon chao. They were so cute :)

I would probably have to go with Tails Sky Patrol for now (though I have never really played through Sonic Genesis for the GBA). Every thing is so huge on such a tiny screen, and the slightest touch of a wall kills you instantly. Honestly, at least most Sonic games are actually playable (and beatable), but when the tutorial stage alone is a challenge, you know it sucks. As usual though, the idea itself is actually pretty cool if/when you get the hang of it, but the execution was terrible.

Then again they've really got no excuse for Sonic Genesis. Seriously.

Wow, I didn't know their GBA port was THAT bad, geez.

If I had to name my least favourite Sonic game, it would be Sonic Labyrinth or Sonic Blast on GG. Both of these are awful pieces of shit.

Other than the obvious ones like Genesis and Labyrinth, I'm going to go with Sonic Advance 3. Otherwise known as "How many bottomless pits does it take to make a game frustrating beyond belief?" It couldn't seem to make its mind up over whether it wanted to be an amazingly fast, SA2-style hold right affair, or a complex, slow platformer with tons of pits. What we got was an amazingly fast hold right affair with far too many pits for such a game.

    Sonic The Motherfucking Hedgehog CD

I never touched a SEGA CD in my life. The only games I played during my childhood were Sonic 1, 2, 3 and Knuckles and 3D Blast. For years I've been told that Sonic CD was the greatest Sonic game ever made. I've read magazines that said CD was the shit. Top 100 list where CD was put on top of the other games.

Everyone was hyping this game up to the fucking stars.

And then I finally got a hold of this game (Totally legit).

    Holy fuck what a disappointment.

What was so good about this game? What made it so great?

    Was it the graphics?

They were nice for the time yes, but they still held a repetitive feel to them. It looked like a slightly more detailed version of Sonic 1. The graphical look was nice, but nothing to go "HOLY SHIT!" about.

    Was it the music?

My first play through was with the American music. Years later, I tried again with the Japanese music. Either way, the music sounds great alone, but with the actual game, what the fuck. Maybe it's the CD quality music mixed with the ye old graphics of yesterday that just never made a connection with the levels with me, or maybe it was because it just didn't fit to begin with. Whatever the case, neither soundtrack is awesome, both suck, get a life.

    Was it the gameplay?

Hey look, I'm playing Sonic 1 + Shitty Spindash and Charge Run move. What was introduced here wasn't that great. That's why it was scrapped or improved in later games. Spindash was awful. Peel-Out was too, and Time Travel was stupid. None of these features could be used well because of the shitty level layouts of spikes/ledge/wall/monitor/badnik blocking your path every second.

    Was it the levels?

    No.

No. No. No. P.P.A may disagree and say that they're all brilliantly designed and suited for time attacking, but you know what? Fuck him. CD had paths everywhere but the goal. The entire shit was a maze with the sole purpose of making the level seem long but really aren't. (Looking at you Wacky Workbench). Sonic 1 had some nice level design, Sonic 2 was more linear but still made sense, Sonic 3 and Knuckles got it right. CD fucked it up. Anyone who disagrees is a faggot (In b4 Tweaker deletes post).

    Bosses sucked too.

Now in the grand scale of things, Sonic CD is a fine game, better than most other shitty platformers out there today. But my main rage is that this game is credited as the best of the Sonic games from the Genesis era, overshadowing that of Sonic 3 and Knuckles, a superior game in all the right ways. Sonic CD is not. It's a subpar game when compared to all the other ones and deserves none of the credit it gets.

CD's levels are SUPPOSED to be somewhat confusing the first time through. Exploration is important to it, even moreso than the other MD Sonic games.

I find Sonic CD tedious when it comes to the time traveling aspect. I mean what the fuck, some levels, you have no room for speed at all and you have to rely on whatever little patch of Spring facing Spring you can find, which are usually so far out of the way that you never find them.

Future time zones are pointless save for Act 3. There is absolutely no reason to go into the future at all. Not even to explore.

And Metal Sonic. Everyone claimed Metal Sonic was awesome because of this game. How do you beat him? He hits a wall. This bears repeating.

    He hits a wall.

    Epic game, my ass.

Ohhhh dear Chimpo. Is that really your least favourite? Or just the most overrated?

While I can accept the ways in which Sonic 3 and Knuckles is superior, I will always take 1, 2 and CD over it any day of the week. Why? Because I feel they catch the essence of Sonic much better somehow.

    But I digress...

My worst Sonic game by a cuntry mile is Sonic Adventure 2. Despite the fact they made Sonic look like a dick in SA1, and added a cast of stupid characters I still really rather liked the game. Sonic Adventure 2 however REALLY took the fucking piss! By this point the Sonic I knew and loved, the Sonic that I grew up with was killed stone fucking dead!!

At least in SA1 there was some classic sounding tunes, but in SA2 the musical badassery of the genesis era had been replaced completely by underdog "you can do it pussy boy" rock music.

I could go on, but by the time I finish I'd seriously have to take my own life.

Chimpo is entitled to his opinion, no matter how different it is from mine, so I won't try to change his opinion, just tell him I disagree. :P

I haven't played very many Sonic games. I played all the original ones on the Genesis, including Sonic CD and Knuckles Chatotix. I liked all of them, save for Chatotix and Spinball, but they weren't bad games. Just not my cup of tea. I've played a couple of Game Gear games for a few minutes, but I never really cared for any of them to play indepth. Again, they're not really my cup of tea.

Now, I've played a few recent Sonic games including Sonic Advance, Sonic Rush, Sonic Rush Adventure, and Sonic Heroes. What game is the most different from the ones I previously mentioned? Sonic fucking Heroes. God that game was a pile of rubbish. Never in my life have I played such an awful PlayStation 2 game! I felt pretty angry after I popped that game in and realized how fucking BAD it was. If I can't have my 2D platforming, can I please have a game that isn't a total fuckfest as far as gameplay goes? I had trouble controlling the characters and getting all the rings I ran past, and I'm not particularly happy about the "3 character teams" either. Also, Amy Rose and Shadow in the same game? That alone makes me want to puke.

So yeah, as much as Sonic Genesis sucks, this game is worse imo.
