Knuckles in Sonic 2

For those who don't know, in the final Sonic 2 (not the beta), there are a few traces left of Hidden Palace Zone, including the Tails 1up box. However when you break this box with either Sonic or Tails, neither of them get a new life.

Recently I got an email from "Nightmare" from the SSRG forums, with a savestate for Sonic 2 and Knuckles, which puts Knuckles into Hidden Palace Zone. And when Knuckles breaks the Box, he gains an extra life!!

I'm guessing Knuckles gets an extra life when he collects a Tails monitor because the game uses object code from the S&K ROM, and not S2.

Probably from the upper memory, knowing S2K. It gets loads of stuff from there.

The objects don't work the same way. All the objects in Knuckles in Sonic 2 are from the upper memory. None of the Sonic 2 or Sonic & Knuckles objects are used at all

I remember making such a savestate the first day that the Knuckles in Sonic 2 ROM was 'released'. I also remember finding out how the game resets itself when you reach the emerald... though there are others that claim to have done it first, but I don't care...
