If anybody's wondering why the video and site are down, I have a <a href="http://209.85.229.132/search?q=cache:Tj0D_QjHzfUJ:www.christianwhitehead.com/soniccd/view.html+http://www.christianwhitehead.com/soniccd/view.html&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk" target="_blank">cached version</a> of Christian's PoC site.
plz stop sending him (and I) emails now k.

EDIT: Oh, and Tristan, in response to your latest story. I know the reply that you're going to get. A magical pair of words known as "no comment." Also, it's not Retro-Sonic anymore. Get your facts straight.

Can we keep the Nexus/TSSZ bashing out of this thread, please? Take it to PM or some other medium; I'd prefer it not to clog up a legitimate topic.

That said, I'm definitely intrigued with the removal of the video and informational website. I'll be sure to let SEGA know I'm interested and keep a look out for a certain something in the future. :)

Well, Tax and I were joking that they'd all get in the board meeting or whatever and all go "YEAH SONIC CD" and then do it themselves. While a funny situation to think about now, that would suck more than a simple "no."

Gathering information on Sega World Sydney and collecting Sonic merchandise.
If this gets accepted, I hope it will include an option to toggle the US and JP soundtracks.

No, he plans to use the JP soundtrack, but you can toggle the Iphone version soundtrack to make to the US soundtrack. If there is an official Iphone version. Which I'll get one just to play it. Don't know why the US soundtrack though. I prefered the JP soundtrack. You could even use the Super Mario Bros theme. :psyduck:

I prefer quite a bit of the US soundtrack over the Japanese one, but I wouldn't mind having the JP tracks default for a change since the US soundtrack is all we've ever had for the releases in the states so far.

I'll get flak for saying it, but I'll say it anyway.

Knowing that no one will confirm things one way or the other at this moment...if this pans out the way it appears it could...I think the Internet just became serious business.

    I'm just saying.

    Yes. Please.

I hope he fixes the title screen if this gets released. Whoever modified Sonic's graphics for the PC port made him look a bit weird. Some new horizontally stretched graphics would be nice.

maybe part of the conflict is a cautionary tone. its not douchy to say in a roundabout way protect yourself or don't get taken advantage of. fact is engine or no, if you make a deal, you don't dance with the devil the devil dances with you. so youre not only selling the "game" but half of its engine, assuming theres some tech support/debugging going on, some more. if they want it, to get you on the shelf, then you give it up or not. its all guessing going on until they pony up the cashneesh - then they will 0wnz0rz y0us and then a non-disclosure says no one says nothing .. .then a game comes out like tah-dah! or not.

still stand by best of luck hope it works out well

A little note—looks like Taxman's not the only cautious one.

The original Sega blog entry that prompted Taxman's "bomb" in the first place...is now *also* gone.

    Hm.

Speaking of which, what would be the most impactful way of contacting SEGA in regards to this?

Taxman has full rights to his engine, unless he himself surrenders them. Even then, Sega doesn't want to be seen as a bully, so it would be completely idiotic for them to tell Taxman he can't do anything with his engine. I'm fairly confident Sega wants to play nice here. All I was saying is, for the sake of protecting his work, he make sure he knows what deal he's getting himself into.

And Taxman, just a suggestion: if you want Sega to use this thing, in my opinion, I would accept the initial pay offer they give you. Obviously they're going to try and get it for a cheap cost, but even so, it could be a great career opportunity for you to be able to say that Sega used your engine. That's an impressive thing to put on a resume, and so asking them for more than what they initially offer in my opinion is increasing the chances they might not use it at all and will opt for a less expensive venture. This could be your foot in the door for bigger things!

Saxman, I'll post this question to you: If Sega wanted your engine and offered you big bucks for it...would you veer it off its open source course for anyone's use and give them the rights?

I ask because I have to think that's exactly what's dancing through Taxman's head right now.

I think taxman would just sell his engine that easily, besides Sega has good relationships with outside developers, look at Madworld or The Conduit, they were don by outside developers, Sega only did the publishing.

After all the people that say "I want it but I don't have an iPhone," I'd have to say I do have an iPhone, and this looks awesome! I can't wait to spend my $6 on this game! I especially like that it plays the original soundtrack and adds custom soundtracks.

One question: does the RSDK allow mode 7-esque stages or are those special stages coded differently?

Also, a suggestion: If it's possible would you either put the credits screen side by side with the ending video like on the Sega CD/PC version or after the video? The lack of credits was a pet peeve of mine on the Gamecube version.

Thank you and keep up the good work. :)
