  1. I am here by deicating all of my reaserch time on Sonic 2 BETA to Genocide City Zone. I WILL find out as much as humanly possible on this unkown and strange Sonic 2 BETA level. If anybody has anything that could help me, please let me know.

    Genocide City, what I know:

Next to nothing. I've played the level, looked at the pallet, and the 8x8 tiles, which are the programer's default ones, not original ones for the level. I've hunted through the games RAW image tiles, but can barley conprehend any of the tiles there. All I can safely say, based on the mock-up screen shot we have from a mag. is that the level was meant to look like an urban [1980's] city. We can safly say that none of the levels in the game, including GCZ, are not linked to each other in terms of being past/future versions of each other, and music doesn't prove anything either. The level music was proably some sort of cross between the music for MCZ and Metropolis Zone, and very rock and rool ish. I have a freind who claims he has found lost tiles of GCZ, but he still has to grabe a screen shot of it.

Genocide City, What I'm going to find out:

    What the level's concept was.

What is it's relation in the story.

Where it was located in the level order.

    Why exacly was it cut.

Find at least a few tiles of the level.

You've heard my claims, let's see if I can pull it off.

There is absolutely no data connected with GCZ except its entry in the level select. We've scrubbed the ROM with a Brillo pad for several years now with no net result.

  4. I had heard that Genocide City Zone never actually got off the ground in the first place, and not much, if anything, was ever done.

What have you done to confirm it is really a mock-up of GCZ? Have you consider the possibility that the screenshot is a hoax? If not, everything that follows falls apart automatically.
    How did you know?
How much expertise does he have in terms of hacking? What method did he use? How did he conclude they're from GCZ? Wait, he doesn't even have a screenshot of them.

Sorry, I can't think of any reason whatsoever how any of the above can be said "safely".

I doubt we will ever find a single graphic from GCZ from our BETA. Alot of people have done shitloads of hacking on GCZ and yet nothing important has come up yet.

  7. Listen, my friend olny CLAIMS that he's found these tiles. And I'm predicting the music based on the screen shot mock-up, whic can be found on this site's false alarms section. Now, even if the pic isn't based on a level image, it still has to have some sor to of inspiration behind it. You guys are mostly looking at this level in technical terms. I'm looking at in artistic terms. I know what it's like when these sort of things happen in a videogame I am very good with making artistic predics of something like this. You must understand the artist game devolpment mind to understand what's really behind this level. Another thing, oyu guys are limiting your reasearch to what's on the Sonic 2 and S2B ROMS. However, it's a well known face that images and tiles were shared from Sonic 2 to other games . (Take a look at the game Streets of Rage. It officaily SEGA confiremed that Sonic 2 and SoR had sharing of files.)

Dude, that screenshot is a HOAX, not a mock-up. That's why it is in the False Alarms section. It was made up by a Sonic fan.

Any conlcusions drawn based on that screenshot is invalid.

The only things we can find in that zone would be glitches, which don't necessarily correspond to GCZ directly.

  10. WHAT! Aww crap! Uggg. Well, now I'm left with less information then before. I hope this isn't a bad omen. Thanks for clairfying that.

Get a sot of those tiles from your friend then we can have a proper disussion without all this scepticism(I dunno how 2 spell it :) )

I think you won't come up with anything...unless...

FUN HAPPY POINT #1: Someone (maybe ICEKnight ore someone) comes up with a Sega employee interview who actually REMEMBERS the development of the game.

FUN HAPPY POINT #2: An earlier prototype Sonic 2 ROM is found, and it actually has tiles, etc in it.

FUN HAPPY POINT #3: It's possible it's Chemical Plant Zone. But, we have no real info involving this, so we just deduce it from other theories that may or may not be right.

You won't find anything, sorry to burst your window. There is nothing (if anything was even begun) left in our beta, and that is the ONLY reliable source of data we have. Reseach can only continue if:

    1) We find another beta
    2) We get some info from someone from SEGA (but it's been nearly eleven years, a long time for memories to fog up)

Other than that, we know almost evrything about the beta. We took it apart and foud all the internal organs there is to find. There's nothing left except to speculate and theorise.

If you want to see some of Genocide City and Death Egg's glitches, here's a few codes to put in Game Genie. These glitches are really big, but that's only when you start moving right of the screen:

Also for some type of color screw-up with the zones, here's a code. Try Dust Hill Zone and check out the graphics:

Have we found any tiles that Sonic can stand on in Genocide city zone?

Nothing except for a "Static Monitor" where you place it through Debug Mode.

That's funny, cause I have a pic of Sonic standing on something that looks like a floor. I'll enclose it, someone tell me if this has been mentioned before.

I didn't put in any code. All I did was change the pallete. Now I bet a lot of you are going to come in and say, IT'S A HOAX, HE'S LYING. Frankly, I don't care, because it's not a hoax.

so you used a palette editor to get this effect right? That's weird. Just by changing the palette in the GCZ section.
