Which is pretty stupid considering, well, just about everything. I'll go with the "endangering Angel Island just to ""test"" Sonic" thing as my main reason. Will not buy it. I actually enjoyed this short film but this in particular really bothers me about it.

  2. I felt it was an okay attempt, and it falls apart due to the lack of consistent tone. I personally liked it as one of those "Bad B-movies that are still enjoyable" kinda way, and I must admit it would make good material for a 'Mystery Science Theatre 3000' kind of parody.

Gotta give it to Mr Lebron. This had me wanting to continue to watch, which is what you want in a movie.
Sonic fan films would usually be quite grating, but not at all in this case. The Sonic model is forgivable in motion, doesn't look too bad.
But yeah, serious tone + voice of sonic from childhood = pretty badass base for something to watch as an adult.

All joking aside, as Gene has said, it is an accomplishment that he actually finished the thing. That he got some recognisable names (to us anyway) on it at least speaks that they had some confidence in it. Sonic's redesign is god-awful, in my opinion, but then anything that deviates from the original is going to garner views like that.

The 3D work wasn't the best, and it wasn't exactly seamless (and I really am being kind here, sorry) but it-- actually no, the 3D work was fucking terrible. Sorry, can't type that one with a straight face. Would it have worked better with a ripped and rigged Generations model? Probably. I'd be interested in if that would be a possible to quickly throw in, as it were, and re-render to see how it'd turn out.

The storyline was.. missing, everything. It felt like an 18 minute trailer that explains nothing. Which.. I guess is what it is, if he wants to actually pitch it as an idea. It's just a shame it wasn't too interesting or informative.

Either way, it was good for a few laughs, and it will be for some time, but hey, he's finished it now. Now we can all wait for the next live-action Sonic movie to laugh at again. :-I'm stupid-P

I do hope Eddie posts up a response (text or video) about all of this soon. I'm curious about how he feels about all of this. I still feel kind of bad for him, but as Gene said, just "Live and Learn" and move onto a different project that will hopefully be much better.

I don't think there's really anything more that can be said that hasn't already been said already. It was horrendous. Sonic's model was pretty miserable, and Doug Walker's face when he saw it summed the whole thing up. There's no plot here. Most of the story is seen through the eyes of GUN soldiers or wideshots of cities, not Sonic, so why did he say he will "tell us all about it?" Why were the Chaos Emeralds even introduced in this movie when there is pretty much ZERO possibility of a sequel? How is it possible that the Egg Carriers are lower poly than those of the pre-rendered cutscenes of Sonic Adventure, a game from 15 YEARS ago? Why are ALL of the CG textures so horrible? Not to mention the music suffers from trying-to-be-epic-syndrome. And saddest of all is Jaleel White. How could you have played a character for so long and lose it so badly? I'm willing to blame that on bad direction, rather than he himself being bad.

All I can say is that my reactions were greatly jaw-drops and facepalms. I liked the opening long shot of that piece of grass at the beginning, but that's about it.

This movie causes me to question myself in a way no movie ought. Why did I watch this? What am I doing with my life? How am I going to be remembered? Why have I not written a novel? Feels bad, man.

This movie is horrible, and I liked the Mega Man one.
And I don't care about the budget used really, it's the writing and everything else.
This only showed me how some people are blinded with nostalgia regarding Sonic works outside the games.
This is Sonic 06 plot bad, not everthing is good when it's taken seriously.

  10. So much to talk about, but to spare any drama Ill just state something that encompasses the entire vibe of this.

When people praise the cameos more than the main hero, the film has a problem.

Eddie, 2006 called. It wants its shitty, real world emo Sonic back.

If you're reading this, congratufuckinglations! You've brought together everything wrong with Sonic in one explosive package.

  12. Yuji Naka updated his Facebook earlier saying the movie was awesome.

So... At least someone likes it I guess? :specialed:

Holy shit! This was worse than I imagined. The cameos were awkward as fuck, I mean the fucking Doug Walker as a GUN soldier?!

The worse part was Sonic himself. He looked like shit. I almost puked when Sonic saved the Nostalgia Critic and said "WAY PAST COOL!". Jaleel's voice does not fit a realistic modern Sonic. He was fine back in the day but holy shit did he felt miscast in this.

Also, Knuckles with no boxing gloves!

I want Naka as far away from Sonic as possible. He's fucking insane if he thinks "the movie was awesome".

I thought the bit where Sonic was voicing over the Mobius flyby was actually pretty good. So what if Jaleel's voiced has aged; it sounds older, not worse. It is still immediately recognisable as that voice, and is still just as fun in its own right. Are people complaining that it sounds bad? It really doesn't, especially when you remember we're talking about Sonic voice overs. Are people complaining that it sounds different? It couldn't, possibly, be any less different. Damn you Jaleel for getting 20 years older in only... 20 years.

So not really seeing the big deal there. It's different (and only in texture at that), not worse. And in a movie that tries to be all real-life, it's not out of place at all that Jaleel's voice doesn't quite sound like a cartoon/Urkel anymore.

Edit - Not a response to Epsilonsama, but other general comments.

Its just feels awkward coming from the grotesque cg Sonic in the film. Also the cartoony voice of Jaleel's Sonic does not fit a life action Sonic. Specially one thats trying hard to seem "serious" and "realistic". I liked him in both SatAM and AoStH, heck I liked him on SU but he just feels so wrong on this.

I surprised myself, because I actually quite liked it. Sure it seems low budget and amateurish, because that's precisely what it is. I'm not a fan of the Archie/SatAM lore, but I thought it was actually quite cool how they meshed together the games and comics. I thought Robotnik was pretty well done, although personally I'd prefer him with a bigger moustache, and a suit more in line with his outfit from 06.

Sonic's model looks freaking terrible though, and I didn't feel like some of his cheesey lines weren't really in tune with the srs bzns atmosphere. Props to the dude for getting White to voice him mind.

I think this guy's getting too much slack for it, really. This guy has completed a piece of work and it's pretty competent.

I liked Robotnik. I always liked the serious Robotnik (SATAM, maybe Adventure 1, StC) so it was nice to see a meaner enemy. But...that's all I can say that is nice. Even Jaleel, who's voice I loved as Sonic has some utterly stupid lines that ruin the performance. Everything has already been said though, so no point in reiterating it.

Props to him for finishing it though, maybe it will inspire others to take up the mantle and do better.

Nothing much to be said. There are circles of people that like the movie and people that loathe it. I'm getting positive emails of praise and negative messages of disapproval. It's like with my "MegaMan" movie. When you do a type of fan fiction like this, it's bound to happen. It was my little Sonic-based fan creation and, like most fan related projects, will get reactions from all parts of the spectrum. I'm more proud of the fact I followed it through until the end and didn't give up. It's finished and I brought Jaleel back for those that wanted him to voice Sonic one last time. It's done and those that enjoyed it are happy. Those that didn't: meh, it's a fan film, it sucked for you to watch, so rant and let your opinion be known. That's the internet. If you don't like something, that's fine! You can't please everyone and can't get bent out of shape if you get a negative response. This is Sonic, there are fans that won't settle for anything less.

I was fully aware that people were going to react all over the place to the film and that's life. I did as much as I could in some parts of the film and there's other parts where I wish I could have done more. I'm more of dramatic film maker so if that's where my strength is and not this, that's fine. "Live and learn". No regrets, no gripes, no hard feelings, and if you hate/love the movie, you let your opinion be known.

....So much for "nothing much to be said" :p

Kudos to you for posting a reply to everyone, Eddie. Following on from my last post - regardless of my feelings on this film in particular, you HAVE shown you're competent at film making in general (and can actually finish a project), but please, for your own sake, do something original for your next project, it will make life so much easier for you. =P Best of luck in your future endeavours!
