So it doesn't get lost - Sega Retro covers video game bugs. You probably know this, but if you didn't, here you go. This lad's quite clever - by exploiting the YouTube algorithm a few weeks ago, I started being recommended his videos about exploiting video games. Including this lovely integer overflow in Two Point Campus, that sees staff receiving a negative salary (to the point where they start paying you). Usually I'd go straight in and add this to the wiki but a) it's a faff b) it might have been patched since this video was made (and if this is the case, there's 342980328940 verisons to test) c) this was actually a Sega-sponsored video. And maybe we'll want to care about those one day. d) chances are it affects Two Point Hospital. And other games. aka I can't be bothered right now, but maybe you can!
Depending on what the memory map looks like, the "stair builders" in Doom can create broken stairs: This applies to the 32X and Saturn versions (although only the 32X will actually error out and die). Initialise your variables, kids!
Dropping a post in here to inform that we have a list of bugs that are sourced from other places like GameFAQs, YouTube and Japanese sites, but will need looking into by those with spare time: https://segaretro.org/Sega_Retro:Todo/Bugs Also on the NEC side, games for NEC systems can also be screwed up. There's even a todo list for them too, including how broken Super Mario Bros. Special gets: https://necretro.org/NEC_Retro:Todo/Bugs
There are a handful of ~mysterious revisions~ of Saturn games, such as the PAL version of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 (Saturn). What's the difference between "V1.007" and "V2.000"?.. apparently nobody knows. Or cares. Although I did think someone might care - Mortal Kombat has a hacking community and a long history of exploits and weirdness. There are lists of bugs online, so that might be a start. I was very close to verifying these ones myself, but I wasn't in the mood to play 483029483024 rounds of Saturn UMK3 at the weekend. It's a very "slow" version of the game due to the (probably excessive) disc loading. That and I'm not very good at Mortal Kombat.
The PAL version of Croc for the Sega Saturn has a bug where his head won't render because of an initialization error. To get the game working correctly, you must start your saturn without the disc inserted, go to the menu screen, then insert the disc and run it. Doing this causes whatever to be initialized correctly by happenstance. Playing a copy of In The Hunt on the incorrect region Sega Saturn with a Pro Action Replay will crash the game to a black screen after boot. This goes for if you play the NTSC-U copy on a NTSC-J Saturn, and vice versa, NTSC-J Game on an NTSC-U saturn. To get the game working correctly, you must unplug the controller during the Sega Saturn boot logo after the PAR logo, before the Saturn logo comes up. Keep the controller unplugged until the game boots, and it'll run like normal. Do additional software region checks count as a bug? Panzer Dragoon Saga has a secondary region lock implemented in software. There exists PAR codes that disable the region lockout to let you play it on a different region saturn.
