Ah, I had mistook him for Bark, who I hadn't seen at Bean and Nack's feet (since I was expecting a full body shot rather then just the upper portion). Thank you for pointing that out.

That's a bit of a big leap of logic. Commander Tower and Lord Hood aren't in that picture, and they've already re-appeared in the comic.

Also, some clarification from Ian on the cover of 260:

EDIT: Ian added something else people were wondering about:

That's still just game & SatAM characters even if he is, though. =P

At least we didn't have to wait too long after for the Unleashed adaption once Ian dropped those not to subtle hints in the first(?) issue of the reboot.

The full solicit and variant cover for Universe 63 are now up, and it finally confirms the whole Unleashed thing once and for all. Also, Bean, Bark, and Nack:

I'm curious if Mighty and Ray are even part of the Chaotix any more. Maybe they'll be more like a Sonic and Tails 2 sorta thing from here on out.

Judging from those covers, it doesn't look as though they are part of the Chaotix any more - well, not for the moment at least. I guess time will tell.

I'm interested in the fact that there's going to be some sort of Unleashed adaptation. I assume, then, that we might now see more game adaptations like this in the future - I'd be okay with this. It's a shame though that there couldn't have been a gradual transition in the comics, to bring them more in line with the games over time. I understand the reasoning of course (stupid as that situation is), but I don't particularly like to see "reset buttons".

Ian was sort of doing this... slowly. He merged the Chaos Emeralds into just the 7, created the special zone, added Orbot and Cubot, he did semi adaptions to Riders and Tails Adventure, and a tied up some other loose ends that no longer made any sense. But the sudden "HEY GAMES NOW" was a bit unfortunate, but at least they aren't doing the games plots to a T. But there are some things that I don't think could have ever been reasonably added in the old world. Like Unleashed's plot would not have worked before, at least I don't think it would have.

Interesting that some plots already happened while others didn't though. Unleashed hasn't happened yet and neither has Heroes, yet Colors already happened and they're kind of doing Shadow the Hedgehog 2.

Wait, where did they say that Heroes and Unleashed hadn't been done yet? Did I miss it?

Heroes I'm guessing hasn't been done, it's plot hasn't been mentioned yet, but it was mentioned in the World's Collide arc when Sonic references Metal turning into that dragon. Shadow has been mentioned as Black Doom is already dead. Colors was mentioned in the first issue after the crossover. Unleashed is happening as of next month. Dark Gaia is mentioned in SU 63's First Look synopsis.

Didn't Flynn say every game up to Colours at least had happened? Unleashed and Heroes would be among them: just because they aren't mentioned doesn't mean they haven't.

As for the Dark Gaia stuff: Robotnik has blown up the planet prematurely and awoke Dark Gaia regardless, perhaps it's the same case as "Shadow 2" here and it'll be brought up as having happened before?

The fact the plot so far is pretty close to the key points (Planet shatters due to Eggman's action, World travel, Pickle is kidnapped, Sonic starts going feral) with no character recognizing what should've happened already, I'm guessing we just have to assume the new canon is close to the games except in their order.

Which is fine by me now I've time to settle to it.

To be fair, when Robotnik blew up the planet in Unleashed there was a clear source of the incident (the orbiting cannon) where as here it's multiversal leftovers getting sucked into the Archenesis Mobius and blowing it up like a balloon...did we ever find out what happened to said orbiting cannon in Unleashed, anyway? I don't recall it being addressed and a planet cracker would be a bit of high priority to stop.

Anyway, the point is they only just learned about it and don't know the extent of the damage. Unleashed just had the pieces hovering, where as here, what's to say the rotation of the planet won't fling the pieces of the world out? Once things calm down, we can see if it's an adaptation or a repeat of the plot. However, I am willing the admit it's most likely an adaptation as Sonic briefly transforms into the Hogwolf in #254, but that doesn't draw any new memories to his mind.

  14. At least the forgotten Sega characters aren't gone. Nack, Mighty, and Ray is some consolation to a huge chunk of the cast being wiped out.

Full 260 cover and solicits are up here. I also have some stuff from Ian about Mighty, Ray, and Nack at the bottom of this post.

    And from Ian:

EDIT: He also said this about whether he'll be answering why the oceans don't just pour off the edges of the broken world:

So what, Mighty and Ray can't be apart of the Chaotix or something? what else would SEGA be getting into a tiffy this time for?

Maybe because SEGA doesn't want them to be known as part of the Chaotix anymore for future plans. :tinfoil: :tinfoil: :tinfoil:

but really it's probably just some really weird reasoning that has nothing to do with anything important

Maybe because Mighty and Ray haven't been Chaotix for 10 years now, around 6 or 7 if we remember the Japanese manual didn't have them be a group at all- they just chanced upon each other

Pretty much that. I'm sure Sega used the partial reboot to bend the characters more to their whims, so no more Mighty and Ray in the Chaotix (hell Ray was never part of the Chaotix, he just was in the comics).

    Kind of off-topic..

I'm re-reading the Archie series and noticed that in the Sonic & Knuckles special there's an advertisement for the up-coming issue #34 in March 1996

But when reading issue #24, there's an advertisement for the up-coming Sonic & Knuckles 48-page special, in May 1995. — As a kid I distinctly remember getting both Sonic CD (Issue #25) & Sonic & Knuckles (48-page special) around the same time so I know it came out in '95 for sure.

Was there a re-release of the Sonic & Knuckles 48-page special? (talking way back like '95-'96) - anyone remembers this time period?
