    PSP V2.00 is now downgradeable!

    PSP Hacks Topic

I havn't got a PSP myself to verify, but everyone else on that messageboard seems to agree - it does work.

So how does this help Sonic Hacking? Personally I've never had an intrest in Sonic hacks, but now theres finally a solid reason. PSP Megadrive Emulation.

Now we can play sonic on the go, it is now more important then ever that everyone tries their best to create cool new hacks. The more classic Sonic on PSP the better. Im even going to try a stab at it using all the Sonic Editing tools I've collected (but never used) to have more original Sonic in the community! Of course, the PSP downgrade is an achivement by itself, but Sonic Hacking just got bigger!

Yeah I've noticed that, that gives to me more reason to buy the psp.
by the way I think I say some progress og megadrive emu for the nds but it isn't advanced as in the psp.

If only Sony thought that way... the emulation scene and Sony could be best buddies if Sony would back off and let it happen. It's concerned with piracy, which would be understandable if there was a single piece of software for the PSP even worth downloading illegally. But since all there is is garbage, and the future isn't looking too great, either, I don't understand it.

I think I'll still make my next handheld a NDS or a GP2X. The NDS has good commerical and GP2X is being made by a company that is pro homebrew and emulation. Although I already have my GP32 for playing classic sonic on the go.

For reference, the DS is selling three times as many units as the PSP in Japan. :P

Sonic 1 Rehash - I'm not saying its canned, I'm planning on some work on it this summer.
    Edit:ignor the orignal post

On PSP Genesis Sonic Long Version the latest version released to public freezes at GCZ just like on PGEN for the PS2. Loads title card and screen turns blue. I just wanted to give a heads up tip.

That doesn't suprise me, although, I must admit, the DS is lacking in good software as well, but at least it looks like some good titles are coming out, like Mario Kart DS, Metroid:Hunters, etc. They've been a long time coming though.

That has to be a bug in PGen. Bluescreens don't happen in the ROM by its own code - there's no routine to write blue to the CRAM. (Unless I'm missing something which I doubt.) Although I've seen bluescreens before.

I've compiled a few C++ scripts that run on the PSP. But I've been having trouble setting up Dev-C++ with the PSPSDK. cygwin is just.... bleh.

Not when it can't compile for the target platform. There are two problems that occur with standard makefiles.
I'm considering trying Microsoft's, there's a way to set that up too.

Fortunately the Rent-A-Center I am renting my PSP from hasn't upgraded from 1.50 yet, so :P.

I need to get a USB cord and DGen PSP.

Well, this will probably be short lived. Sony is developing a new upgrade right now to patch the buffer overflow exploit that the downgrader uses. Why the hell do they have to be such assholes?

In other PSP related news, AstrlDragon has compiled a 2.0 EBOOT launcher. While it won't work with huge apps yet, it allows 2.0 users to run EBOOT files without downgrading.

    Speaking of emulator fuckups...

Genocide City and Hidden Palace in ANY Sonic 2 hack (notably Long Version and Delta II/III) gets loaded very funkily in SegaGen (the DC Smash Pack emulator): the titlecard turns into a bunch of garbage and you can see Sonic WAY before you're supposed to. The rings also look very strange. Enemies are not affected, but the water line is (turns into As, Bs, Cs, Ds, Fs and Gs)

For reference, neither Dust Hill (even with Long 1.8's dynamic level changing) nor Wood seems to have these problems.

Obviously there's something wrong in how these two levels are being loaded. Both (I believe) use animations, and both use water.

Which one of these is the culprit?

And, to have SOME semblance of being back on topic, we know Sony's the devil. Please, let this expired equine rot.

Homebrew is possible on 2.0. So what's the first thing people make? A downgrader. Devs should probably just make boots for all three firmwares (1.51 and 1.52 am sux). Or better yet, a program that can convert between them. 1.0 eboots are modded to run on 1.5. Making a 1.5 eboot work on 1.0 is easy. With a little working around, one could convert from 1.0 or 1.5 to a 2.0 eboot. It should be fairly simple to make a converting program.
