Well, who will be playing Sonic then?

Actually, it kinda rules out a stuckinanotherdimension-plot.

Much like the live action Grinch, Jim Carrey may singlehandedly make this film watchable.

 

Oh lord, I am so fucking torn on this news it's giving me a headache.

 

Yeah, if they're really going for a live action Eggman then you definitely want Jim Carrey for the role.

He has the voice for Eggman too.

Oh my fucking God. I can't decide whether this is the greatest news ever or more fuel added to a fire that's already burning so very bright.

Leaning more towards good news, I guess? Jim's a superstar and comedy legend and this could help the film significantly, I think?

 

Jim Carrey can be really expressive, so, face-wise, he might be a valid choice; yet, I would always pick John Goodman before Jim for this role.

 

Why does this exist?

I love Sonic, really. I do.

I have... no desire to see this beyond curiosity and my sadly obsessed fanboy-ism.

Sonic is not Hollywood popular. This could have worked in 1993 from a box office perspective, but not now. Even the best selling Sonic titles only hit 5ish million across all platforms.

 

"Sources said Carrey is negotiating to star in the Paramount film in the role of Robotnik, a villain in the live action/CGI adaptation of the hit Sega video game."

1. They don't cite their source. That puts this thoroughly into rumor territory until this is actually confirmed.
2. I find it intensely unlikely any internal source would call him Robotnik. He's pretty definitively Eggman at this point.

I would absolutely love for Carrey to have this role, but my BS meter is flashing bright red.

 

While it would have been better for them to say that he's negotiating for the role in the headline, a major reliable news outlet not saying who their sources are really isn't really reason to be skeptical. Deadline's not some unknown website, they do reports like this pretty often.

Also, no news outlet is going to cite who leaked stuff to them. In all likelihood they had enough reliable sources who, for obvious reasons, want to be kept anonymous tell them the same thing for them to report this. That's how things tend to go with reports like this anyway.

It's still possible that Robotnik won't be played by Carrey, but even if he doesn't it's very unlikely that this report is BS.

 

Well, at least there's no longer a chance that this movie will be boring.

Awful yes. But not boring.

 

Dare I say it would've been a 11/10 movie for me if Paul Rudd had gotten the cop role.

Jim Carrey couldn't save Dark Crimes, he won't be able to save this.

That's it, I'm seeing this shit opening night, and I'm going to be completely wasted off my ass. This is going to be amazing.

 

The Hollywood reporter/one of their writers is saying that Jim will be live action (and not just voicing a CGI Robotnik) so there's that at least. He's genuinely starring in the film.

Also this hitting the major Hollywood news outlets and being reported everywhere makes me believe this is probably true even if it's not entirely definitive just yet.

I like Jim Carrey, but hooooooooooooooooooooooo boy....

I wouldn't be surprised if this film ended up damaging his career.
