Doesn't mean that we have to give him credibility for it. Also, I meant the "this thread is about Sonic Forces and not Jim Sterling".
Then why did you even began this derail in the first place? :v:/>/>/> Now people won't stop bringing it up. Uh oh, more 'trolling' by people who found the game fun. Alright, alright. But I do find it interesting that they actually seem to have arrived at the same conclusion as Jim did? When it comes to Sonic Forces, as long as you ignore the trainwreck of a story (and to be perfectly honest, the stories in Sonic games always ranged from nonexistent to 'eh' to cringe), what you'll mostly get is "Sonic Generations lite & my first OC". But, on the other hand, if you go into it expecting a groundbreaking original game then of course you'll end up disappointed. What I'm saying is that the kids and the wider public will not be as harsh on the game as the long-time fans. EDIT: I think that the Kotaku review said it best:
Actually it's funny you mention that because in Jim Sterling's video I said the same thing. Actually I could have sworn that his character was mine for a second, as for a while my character was black with the persona mask and NiGHTs hat and shoes with the white face cover.
Go on Sega, use that "Best Sonic game in years" quote. Do it. I dare you. Nobody should be resigned to expect "Generations-lite" after all this time. Nobody should be resigned to expecting a new iterative Sonic game to not just ignore the criticisms of what came before, but significantly regress backwards. The fact that people's expectations are so low is Sega/Sonic Team's fault for advertising a notably inferior product while still persuading people to buy it anyways since it's Sonic and hopefully "good enough". I don't see much worth in the claim that the wider public won't be so critical, either. What's the benefit of that? Encouraging more games that are as lackluster as Forces? General audiences and fans alike were receptive to Sonic Mania, for instance. And pretty much nobody is going into this expecting some grand, groundbreaking step forward from Sonic Forces. That hypothetical is too extreme to be useful.
This game needed more time. Jesus christ it just looks unfinished in pretty much most areas. How long was this game in development? Feels like it started when it was announced, which is not good.
Well kinda hard to rent games this day and age but yeah it's a rental. You might like it or not so a try it before you buy it is a nice way to put it, or wait for it to be on sale.
So two things. Looks like the game locks you into your Avatar once you've designed it, although you can change color and clothing, yet there's awards for getting Medals as other animal types? Seems a bit odd unless you unlock the ability to change up your Avatar completely later on in game. Anyone got any clues? Secondly, Episode Shadow isn't showing up on the EU PSN store. Aaron has already tweeted about it, which is a bummer as I was keen to get that started. Okay. Opinion injection: It's been pretty good for me so far, although I can definitely see why it would be disliked. I'm enjoying it quite a bit. Nitpick injection: So Chemical Plant is on an Island, yet Green Hill is now just smack bang in the middle of the main continent? I'm going to take the game's world map with a pinch of salt, as I refuse to believe South Island of all things have been forgotten about. Controversial Opinion time: Classic Chemical Plant was actually alright to play.
You would get something akin to Unleashed, I think. I don't remember where I read it, but supposedly the werehog was put in after Sonic Team realized that the daytime gameplay simply wouldn't be a long enough experience for a modern game (which are about 6-8 hours). If that's true, then I'd guess that SEGA gave a newer team free reign to basically make whatever Sonic game they wanted, provided it was fun to play and was polished (the opposite of 06). After making the daytime gameplay, they probably realized that they weren't able to make a long enough game within their time-frame without either padding it out a bunch, or changing up the game to be much slower. Despite the fact that they added another gameplay style that was much slower, we still have some padding in the game already through medals - probably because they were afraid that the game would still be too short even with the werehog :v: They could have gone the way of the Genesis and made a game that's about three hours or so, but then you'd likely have complaints that the game is too short, something I've seen people complain about in regards to Generations.
Nice. That's actually kinda cool, I was worried I'd be locked into my "make something just to get started" character. Thanks!
GameCrate: 5.75/10 "Sonic Forces is a Half-Finished Disappointment of a Sonic Game" Cubed3: 5/10 Also, according to SteamSpy, Forces has sold over 4000 copies on Steam in its first day, and is currently a top-seller on the Steam page. For those curious, here's some comparison images of how many copies Forces and Mania sold on Steam on their first day (again, numbers are from SteamSpy):
I literally signed in here for the first time in three years just to say that the final boss in this game makes me want to fucking drown a kitten. Jesus Christ.
My interest in this game has slowly waned over time and it seems I made the right call in not getting this on day one. Will probably pick it up when it eventually drops to $20. It's like they wanted to make a SatAM game, were told "lol no", and instead made something as close as possible to that idea but with bland gameplay, seemingly bad level design, and ORIGINAL CHARACTER DO NOT STEAL shit thrown in. Mario Odyssey really does look more fun than this, and I suck ass at Mario games.
