While I think the new vocal theme is good, I do feel that this version is a bit better:

  2. If you were already planning on not buying it and judged it already to be bad, then it's no wonder that you'd hate the main theme of the game when its lyrics were revealed. Other than that, these complaints about the lyrics rely on them completely ignoring the premise of the game's plot and the role of the custom hero. It isn't that the lyrics are bad; you've just decided to preemptively hate it from the start. Also, to call all Sonic songs with lyrics bad from the start is just an example of deciding to judge something in an arbitrary manner.

Not just Sonic songs, all songs period.

Also lol at implying Sonic fans won't buy a title just because it's bad.
Also it's Generations 2, it's gonna be mediocre at worse. The sound direction being the worst part so far.

Limitcrown are you just being contrary for the sake of it? Everyone who has said they don't like it explained why they like the Adventure brand of cheese and not this. How do you know we were set against it from the start? Can you read minds over the internet? Personally when I saw it in my feed this morning I was like "oh cool" and then listened and thought it was lame. Why are you being an apologist for a game that isn't out yet? And that we're all likely going to buy anyway?

  6. If they're going to buy the game anyways after complaining about how bad it will be, then they know only how to talk. They should cease their pointless whining until they've played it for themselves. All complaints about the main theme have been due to the lyrics being cheesy as they have generally been in the Sonic series, and complaints about the Custom Hero's stage themes are due to them not being dark and brooding. They're motivating instead, which people here have so much problems with. There aren't any problems with the sound direction when these aspects have been intentional.

Completely irrelevant to how people react to this particular game. Besides, a lot of people like to ignore the multitude of good Sonic games that have been released only when it suits them as a justification for their pessimism and constant complaining about the majority of things in this game.

It's another justification for the nostalgia that people can't let go of. There is hardly any difference between the quality of the Adventure games' songs' lyrics that are similar to the ones in Sonic Forces's main theme. Despite this, people pretend that there is something inherently different between them when the placement of the songs could switch and you wouldn't be able to say that. Also, I can tell that people were set against it from the start by looking at the reasonings for the arguments that were made in the first place. The majority of these stem from Sonic Forces not being just like the Adventure games, whose quality is constantly exaggerated compared to the other 3D Sonic games. You see complaints of them using the Boost gameplay style again. You see complaints about the custom character feature even existing because of memes about Deviantart and the fact that people care far too much about other people's ideas and fan artwork. People complain about them not reportedly doing anything new with Green Hill or including it for an anniversary Sonic game while generally expressing more praise for the stage in Sonic Mania. There are complaints of them not sticking with their mechanics when the boost gameplay style hasn't been altered to a great degree unlike the Adventure games. Pretty much every single little thing regarding this game has been complained about from the start and those complaints give the impression that people were overly pessimistic from the start and would try to not like the game regardless of its actual merits.

Just listened to the theme without reading any replies. I really don't like it. It sounds like one of those fan videos where they add lyrics to a song that didn't originally have any. Also the voice of the guy is just poor. It sounds like he is straining to even make the higher notes. Just really amateurish overall.

Would dislike it less if the vocals sat in the mix better, since the lyrics are pretty on par with the cheesy Sonic song course, but yeah, it's pretty rough.

Endless Possibilities won't be dethroned as the best modern Sonic theme anytime soon.

Not where I want to be.
Sonic (?): Coming summer of 2055...?
Open your Heart isn't that cheesy though. Not any cheesier than regular 'ole buttrock. Endless Possibilities and Reach for the Stars are cheesy, but in a 'Kidz Bop' kind of way.

This theme is just...cheesy. I wouldn't ever want to listen to it outside of the context of the game. It's just 'serviceable'. And all indications are that Forces will be so-so as well.

Always happy to be wrong but...we haven't really been wrong about our firat impressions for years.

Yeah, this constant "but just wait and see guys!" routine is eerily reminiscent of the Needlemouse/Sonic 4 Mega Thread(s).

Yeah, at least when His World came out the guys from Zebrahead were still basically in their musical prime (Plus even back then Tomoya Ohtani was the music producer, so this isn't a new thing). Hoobastank literally hasn't been relevant since like... 2005. It's pretty easy to see why now. 12 years later and the guy sounds like crap.

  16. I must thank you, for when I was a wee lad of 19 I came across this video on whatever video site there was before YouTube hit the scene, and wasn't able to find it a few years later when I went searching.

It's just as edgy and stupid as I remember.

Also I kind of want to make one now.

The song is called Fist Bump. (According to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XI97jY3FZ9Q anyways.)

I get that Sonic was the cheesy caricature of the 90's, but that doesn't mean that he needs to go full swing into fist bumping everyone to stay hip and fresh. I dunno. Song's good, but it doesn't feel like a standard Sonic theme song. Most of the standard Crush 40 fare seems to be a chorus ("Can't hold on much longer..." / "Live and learn, hanging on the edge of tomorrow...") that's all catchy and memorable surrounded by more plain lyrical bits ("Ancient cities blazing..." / "Can you feel life...") This song seems a lot more varied, it doesn't have any solid chorus that repeats like the Crush 40 songs did. Which isn't bad, but it makes it quite a bit less memorable and catchy. (I know basically nothing about music though, so take what I'm saying with a grain of salt.)

I think Robb has maintained his voice better than a lot of singers hitting their 40s/50s (not as good as Ted Poley or Tony Harnell did circa 2001 but he still sounds pretty good).

That being said Hoobastank's downfall was taking too long to make a new album after The Reason and when it did come out it was crap. They're still active though, and making a new album. It wouldn't surprise me if Robb took the gig out of hope it'll promote the upcoming album and get them some attention again.

Knight of the Wind is honestly one I really love, just not quite top spot.
