When you look at the last trailer, the part where the character customisation menu is shown, at the bottom there are three menu entries: World Map, Character Customisation and Missions. World Map could mean a map of the game's world a la Adventure 2, where you can quickly go to the level you want. It could also theoretically mean a Generations-style hub or Lost World's "Do the Mario" overworld, but why call it "World Map" then?
So? Person should still be able to voice what they want. Anyway, I'm not sure how I feel about the player avatar sharing levels with modern Sonic. If it really is just an optional secondary character, then that is at least non-intrusive, but also begs the question of "why is it here?". If it serves as the game's mission mode, I guess that makes sense, but then advertising it alongside the two characters the game's actually designed around seems a bit "hey look at THIS cool thing that doesn't actually matter". If anything, I guess this could be a step towards getting other characters playable again. This may not be the one that we want right now, but if it really is $100% optional, that means there's no room for "BUT I JUST WANNA PLAY AS SONIC" from critics. And if it's mandatory to play through the exact same levels as Modern Sonic using your avatar, then that's totally fucking dumb and I hope they don't do that, and thankfully I'm pretty sure they won't, but there's always some uncertainty. On the subject of hubs, I think they'd be fine if they were Unleashed-style, AKA small, but I kinda doubt that they're a thing. I can't imagine walking around talking to people in Park Avenue with godzilla-sized robots in the background killing everything.
This is probably the case. In the trailer we can see some other things happening in the Donut Steel gameplay that Sonic can see or goes through. The first ramp over the large gap where the bridge is out pans the camera over to the side where one of the black egg robos is getting shot at. Modern Sonic can see the turn in the road at the very end of his gameplay, and the Donut Steel can see the same elevated curve when the camera pans to the side of the swinging segment. It's also possible that there are alternate paths the CaC's take versus Sonic given some of the screenshots, but the backgrounds make it hard to tell if there is extra playable areas or not. To be fair this is probably the best way to go about reusing level assets but they could have at least done this for characters like Knuckles or Tails. CaC the hedgehog doesn't appear to have a boost and Sonic's looks much less powerful.
Yeah, something like those! Just done leagues better. Sonic '06, in my mind, has a story that could have been really fun (just cut the humanXsonic shit). I still enjoy a ton of '06, it's mostly a technical disaster, the story is just mediocre. I think if you could wrap the story and themes of '06 and Unleashed and mash them together, you could probably get something really neat. When it comes to Boom, well... maybe spend a couple more years crafting that one.
What if they're going down the LEGO games route with Custom the Animal which we would be able to play as once we've finished the main storyline, like a "Free Play" Mode, but with various elements changed so it can be used for any type of character - and not just the specific one as you go through it? That may also explain the 'World Map' too; once you've finished the game, you're free to go to any map that you've completed and play it as your favourite/home-made character.
I doubt that they'd make one of the game's biggest features a post-completion extra, especially since they've said that the custom character is involved in the story.
Oh shit bois major plot reveal for Sonic Forces incoming fresh from Twitter: "Too easy! That was such a piece of cake!" That is an actual line from the Japanese script though - I wonder if this is gonna be in the English script too...
Sounds like a victory line to me. if I remember right, SA2(B) also had sonic say that for a certain rank at the end of the level.
I like all this custom character stuff. I've spent tons of hours in character creation screens, locker room features, etc., so adding it to a Sonic game is almost something l needed. I hope it has some way to make additional CCs whitout starting new games, just for the joy of using this new feature. Besides that, I also like this gadgetry gameplay, it doesn't really seem out of place; it's probably the first alternative character mechanic that fits in a Sonic game since good old Knuckles. Anyway, I'd really want more races available, and customisable skills in a similar fashion to Sonic Generations so we could really make a custom character and not just a custom skin; it could have been the chance of doing something close to a Sonic MMO, and they're losing it.
I'm sure I'll play with the character editor and have fun with it and spend way more time than I should creating the perfect (read: over-the-top ridiculous) character. For that reason, I hope they make it deep. Regardless, I can't help but think that the very presence of a character creator is a sign that Sonic Team yet again doesn't really have much direction with this game. I hope I'm wrong.
I too was pretty hype for the CaC (create-a-character) announcement, which isn't neccessarily to say that I am actually hype for Forces. I just thought that it fit, particularly as an aside from the main game. My hype did dwindle a bit once I really dug through all the screen-grabs and videos; I noticed that it may be a struggle to create everyone I would want to. While there are dog, wolf, cat, and even a bear, there were no reptiles revealed. I could comfortably make a Blaze, a Bark, and potentially a Fang; there is as-of-yet no announced way to make an Espio. Regardless, I don't believe the likely slapped-together CaC is indication that Sonic Team has no direction for the game. We just don't know enough yet, though E3 is right around the corner.
While I think the melody isn't bad...fuck the lyrics. Cringeworthy shit right there. I really hope you can change the music like in Generations, because that will be the first piece of music to go.
Um... cool? To be honest I wasn't the biggest fan of Lost World's soundtrack (heck I didn't even beat the game), and this is really not doing it for me either. Now I know how the critics of the Adventure rock music feel. EDIT: I don't think anyone is talking to me specifically, but to specify the lyrics don't make much of a difference to me. It's the music itself I don't like. It's just very bland to me. It's not what I think of when I think of console Sonic game. I hope that this retro game-sounding music is the trope of the custom character and not Classic or Modern.
Welcome to Sega lyrics, they're just about always cheesy. From previous Sonic games, to the Phantasy Star franchise since Online (seriously go listen to Universe's Save The World, my brother threw a shitfit from how cheesy it was years ago), to whenever they include english lyrics in games even today.
We had Sonic songs with cheesy lyrics since 1993. Accept it. Embrace it. Enjoy the cheesiness goodness.
