Can someone tell me whether this is official art or not? Also, was there ever a hack made for Chaotix that made the characters you pick act like Sonic & Tails in Sonic 2/3?

So, I'm curious. Why are like half the 3D Sonic related render icons in SA1 and SADX Classic Sonic



The life icon has black eyes, the shoes have no soles, and the Tails level icons have a chubbier Sonic with shorter quills and red soles to his shoes. What I find strange though is that they have a modern 3D rendered head icon of Sonic from the Tails race. So why is it that the character that arguably changed the most from Classic to Modern (outside of Amy and Eggman), let alone is the name sake of the series, has such slapped together icons? I kind of wonder when they decided to go forward with the newer designs rather than just updating the older ones.

I'd love to see someone recreate a Classic model based off the Tails mission render. It'd be like a beefed up Sonic Jam model.

I'm surprised that "Jam" model hasn't been discovered in one of our Sonic Adventure pre-releases - almost everything else from our prototype screenshots has.

It was noted that some of the 2D assets derive from this earlier model (or specifically, when Sonic jumps, you can see the blocky arms in the blur texture). It suggests they probably weren't too bothered about updating the 2D art after putting in placeholders.

 

I just love how between SA and SADX, they focused on updating all the wrong things. Like they updated level textures that were already fine but they didn't update the menus or icons that looked really out of place.

I dunno if anyone mentioned this, but there ARE rings in Death Egg Zone in Sonic 2. But that's only if you have the right version and it's locked on to Sonic & Knuckles. You get the rings after defeating Silver Sonic, but before leaving that area. Climb the left wall, then glide over to the right. There are 4 rings and a ring monitor. I distinctly remember doing this on the actual system. Dunno about an emulator.

 

Can you try doing it again?

 

Bean's hobby is Soccer..and he was later a unlockable in Virtua Striker 2. Heh!

 

You remember wrong. There are no rings or ring boxes anywhere.
