Tentative Explanation for the Tails Life Box

    I'd trust the work of the programmer over the word of the artist.

    There's no code to indicate that the emerald does anything special in water. It's a simple two-routine object with solidity. You can't get a simpler object from a programming point of view. (Of course, the mappings could be simpler, but hey.)

    It's also improbable. If they wanted a Sonic life box they'd get it right first time. Also, it's not really concealed enough to be a life box. (Compare the locations of life boxes in other zones.)

    At least, better than the "TAILS IS TEH ESMERALDOH GUARDIAN! LOOK AT THE LIFE BOX! PROOF!".

    and I understand the "location of life boxes" in others zones, they usually are in hard acessible places or Hidden. That Life box is the unique in the whole game that can be easily get.

    But if Hidden Palace was intend to be Hidden, so reach there would be hard, and maybe that's enough to place that life box there.

    And "Last" , When I said "no way to hide it", I want to say "there's no sense in hide it, even if you get the Seven Emeralds, don't make sense you reach Hidden Palace. Add a storyline to Sonic games isn't a good idea."

    What I want to know is why exactly there's a Tails monitor in the first place. It's never used, and it's useless. wtf?

    That's a pretty big "if". I don't think the "Hidden" in "Hidden Palace" is anything but a name. Just like there's not much mystery in "Mystic Cave".

    Again, it's true that the level artist says it was supposed to be a secret level, but I doubt if he actually had much exposure to what the level was about - the artists got told "make this please" and "thank you" and not a lot else.

    Wrong.

    The 1-up monitor works by pointing to where in VRAM that the 1-up icon is. Since different icons are loaded for each character, the 1-up icon will change to suffice.

    The Tails 1-up uses the old art for the S1 1-up, so changing the Tails box art won't effect the real Tails life icon.
