Well yeah I do understand that being British myself and having lived through Sonic's popularity and Sega's dominance here in the UK with the Master System and Megadrive. It's just it has been weeks of small enthusiast sites covering us so I was just shocked to see an article by them. Shocked that we made the national news. Seriously this is so fucking amazing for the campaign. It's not just that they've covered us. It's that other outlets are going to see it and mirror the news. So excited now. Give it a day or two and our story should theoretically appear in so many other high-profile places now. It's not definite but it's highly probable.

This is the best possible thing that could have happened to us and an amazing breakthrough for the campaign. Well done everyone!

As long as you're comfortable buying a copy of the Star, that'd be great. ;)

All seriousness, this is totally unexpected but fucking awesome too. Hopefully people notice it and decide to sign. This could be the best thing that's happened so far.

I'll go grab a copy now, in a bit.

EDIT: got a copy, nothing in today's at least. If someone else wants to keep an eye out, feel free to.

Thanks for doing that man. I was tempted to get one myself but you saved me the potential mission. We might show up in tomorrow's paper if the online rendition of the Star only just published the news this afternoon. It's not definite but it's possible. Also I was thinking of reviving my long dormant NeoGAF thread with the Daily Star news. I was thinking "We made the national news in Britain" might draw more people to the thread again and reboot it somewhat.

Just thinking of ways to capitalise on this awesome development and hopefully get more signatures. Good idea?

I'd say wait and see if it's in tomorrows newspaper: since there's a perceived 'rivalry' between the papers and games systems, some might find it more impressive to have it in the old media, the 'opponent', compared to having it on the new media, aka 'another website'. If it's not there, then proceed to capitalise on it as you planned while focusing on the national news part. But that's just my thoughts.

Yes, I noticed they had several articles on Sonic, so I emailed the author Tom Hutchison and he was very enthusastic about the story.
Hopefully, this will make it easier to get into other publications.

I think it's a good idea to keep all thread up to date with relevant updates. As long as the updates are interesting, the forum readers will appreciate it.

Thanks for all the support everyone. I doubt it would have been picked up by all these outlets if it wasn't for the support.

As awesome as it is that the Daily Star is covering the campaign, good lord the article is incredibly misleading. The Sonic 3 Remastered campaign isn't some broad "FANS WANT TO SAVE THE SERIES!!!" campaign the author is painting it as*, nor is it a reaction/response to the Sonic Boom games being a financial flop. I'm not very enthusiastic by these choice of words either:

    lolwut.

Yes it's great that the campaign is now making enough noise to be featured in a national newspaper; but this article I feel has completely overblown the campaign's original intentions. Pray I ask, does the Daily Star have a tendency to do these things with their stories?

    * Even taking into account that a Sonic 3 remaster is, in a few aspects, a step to keep the classic Sonic branch of the franchise from being left at the wayside again.

Yeah, they've put a certain spin on the campaign. But, I think in the grand scheme of things it shouldn't be an issue, especially because it's a daily paper, so by tomorrow, they'll have moved onto another story. The main thing is that being in major publication makes it more likely for other publications to take notice.

Like most tabloid newspapers in the UK, Daily Star is renowned for putting a spin on stories to make them sound more exciting. Hence the "Save Sonic from dying by supporting Sonic 3 Remastered" angle. Despite this, it's still a good article and to get a major national newspaper to cover the campaign is a great achievement. Will be interesting to see if any of the other newspapers take an interest.

    You're welcome. Happy to help.

I think it could be worth for some of us who live in non native English speaking countries to message their national papers to bring more awareness to the campaign. Spain and Russia seems to be ideal choice atm seeing as we have had a few people offered to write up the petition details in their native language. Getting German, French, Italian details set up would be a great next step if anyone is offering to help.

My initial thoughts upon reading the article...

"Fans are convinced a remake of Sonic 3 would rejuvenate the buzz around the 90s character and make him as huge as Nintendo's Mario again."

"Releasing the Sonic 3 remake would allow Sega to instantly repair the brand's image and remind everyone why Sonic is a beloved gaming icon."

Awfully Hyperbolic... Does anyone actually think this? I'm happy for the attention, but did the author have to make those interested in the remake look delusional?
I mean going off of this article, why should SEGA listen to a bunch of people with such unreal expectations, anyway?

National papers are a bit of an oddball, at least unless we're talking about ones with specific gaming credence. The fact that The Daily Star picked this up is nothing short of bizarre. Wouldn't it be better to keep things more relevant? I dunno.

It's the Daily Star, you can expect badly written articles like this from it.

It's entertaining that you've caught the attention of the Daily Star, but... it is quite a way down in the food chain when it comes to national newspapers. I can't imagine it's internet traffic is that high - it seems like a really odd place to go for news.

Now if you made the print edition, that would be more significant.

It's been over a year since our last release with SEGA, and our last pitch was turned down, so that would seem to diminish Taxman and my relevance to them. If they can be convinced to deal with the apparent legal issues they're having surrounding Sonic 3, or whatever else the problem is, that game is otherwise pre-established, and people who claim to want it already know what they're getting, so, assuming sufficient demand, it's less of a risk than trying to provide people with brand-new content. If we do, in fact, have a successful release of Sonic 3, we would probably be in a stronger position to pitch a brand-new game. That's also not to mention how much sense it would otherwise make in general to complete the original series remasters first before beginning what would effectively be a spinoff branch
