The Sonic 3, 20th Anniversary & Knuckles Thread

We'll put up a news post about this on the front page tomorrow. Not today though so it doesn't overlap with Monday Links seeing how it probably won't get as much attention if I just put it in there.

I would buy multiple copies of this just to show how much I want it.

I'll just write a check to SEGA for $60 and write Sonic 3 iOS for the notes section how about that. They haven't made that much off Sonic 3 alone since 1994. Hell we can go to 100 and I'll write Sonic 3 and Knuckles.

 

At the moment, the campaign's mainly been covered on Sonic sites (and there's still a few big sites like Sonic Stadium that have yet to cover it on their news pages).
Hopefully, some of the more general Sega and retro-gaming sites will cover it too. That would probably boost the numbers up to what #SegaPCPorts achived.

 

I'll see what we can do about getting some coverage over on the TSS side, even if it's something small.

Personally think that if there is an issue with music, why go after Sonic 3? I personally would love to see other SEGA Genesis/Mega Drive classics running on the retro engine, I even did aarticle about it acouple of years ago. Any of those would do really well, especially Streets of Rage.

I just think there is already a ton of Sonic games, I think it would be a breath of fresh year for everyone to get something other than Sonic.

 

That's great. He has an average of 20,000 views per video that's mainly Sonic videos. This could give the petition and letter posting a massive boost.

 

Probably should've mentioned physical letters are more likely to get attention, but yes it's a massive boost to our efforts. Keep getting the word out there!

That's pretty fucking awesome of you Stealth. One of the primary developers of Sonic 1 and 2 Remastered throwing their weight behind this is certain to give this project a massive boost. I'll be sure to link your Tumblr post in any promotional posts I make (on forums and so on). Also worthy of note is that the movement appears to be gaining momentum. Last time I checked the petition had 250 signatures and now it has hit 600 just over the time frame of tonight.

I might PM Big Smile and see if I can assist this project to a greater extent than I currently am. I feel motivated by Stealth's recent show of support.

Whats the check for?

 

On the website, it recommends you send a check for $3 with the letter representing a symbolic purchase of the game.

 

Excellent effort guys. We're already over 740 signatures, with signs of more rapid increases. That 1000 goal should come soon. I knew we only needed a slight push to get this moving. If even 10% of those people can send letters too, something will be noticed... and that is frankly only a small fraction of the potential consumer base that would buy this.

Whether or not something will happen? Hard to say, but getting noticed is usually all it takes to get a project like this at least reevaluated.

 

I'd actually recommend increasing the upper limit on those signatures. We're going to hit 1K quite rapidly and the petition's going to stall. Once the NeoGAF thread is up (I know I'm taking ages to do that but I want to confirm the contents of the thread I'm working on with Big Smile first) that's going to increase the signatures and then also when this gathers press attention the signatures will increase further then. The Shenmue III petition I started over a decade ago was given news stories across the sphere of the games press and hit 70K signatures in two weeks. So potentially increase the upper limit?

Something modest like 5K might suffice for now. Just don't want us hitting 1K and then no more people can sign as this effort gathers speed and momentum.

As I understand it, the limit is automatically set by Change.org.

When the petition was first made, the limit was 100. Then when the 99th signature came, it jumped to 500. Then when the 499th signature came it jumped to 1000. From what I gather, it should jump up automatically when the 999th signature is collected.

 

Just chipping in here to say that this is awesome. The site looks slick! Signed the petition. Kudos to Retro for making this happen. I have no doubts that SEGA is going to pick up on this and give us what we want.

Not sure precisely which tracks are the culprit as to why this hasn't been re-released so far, but I'd be happy with the PC release's music used instead (but with MD styled sounds). Or even better, SEGA to run a competition in which the fans create the music. Now that would be something.
