Team Rose's theme rocks. Honestly. They sucked so much in-game, but the song was SO cool.

    Also-"This Machine" was freaking sweet.

I got the "Triple Threat" soundtrack just for those, and was amazed by songs like "What I'm made of"

Honestly, I liked it almost as much as the soundtrack to SA2-but without the Jazz classics of Amy and Rouge's themes... it didn't work as well for me.

    Welp, this.
I've been hoping that Sega will keep Julien-K to do the songs for Shadow the Hedgehog, actually.

Soundtrack:  , with few exceptions.

Personally, I never minded Heroes. I actually liked it very much, apart from Tails' annoying voice and Knuckles' bullcrap lines ("Thank you very much"? Give me a f***ing break!). I never noticed any major flaws with it until I came here and saw them brutally pointed out. I'll admit that Heroes wasn't my favorite, but it took me a grand total of over a week for me to beat it, and that's something for me lately, since I beat Sonic Advance in 1.2 days, Tron 2.0: Killer App in about 3 days, and Custom Robo in, IIRC, very little more than that. And my favorite part, naturally, was seeing Metal Sonic become that awesome dragon thing that was extremely powerful and said things like "Burn to death!"...OK, I'll admit that I beat it first try on my friend's completed copy long before I got the game, but it was fun anyway, and it was worth it just to hear "What I'm Made Of".

And yes, "This Machine" was freaking sweet.

Notice how you enjoyed grapihcs and music more than the actual game

I don't want to start a fight or to criticize your opinion, Luminoth123, actualy I agree with you, the music is really great, fast paced and flowing with energy,(though Heroes was a little repetitive) the graphics weren't that good for today standards but the characters models are awesome, with or without that shining on their foreheads.

But then, there are the same problems from SA2, the bad camera angles, the bugs and the bottomless pits everywhere, and the straight-foward-line level design.
    Nothing really changed.

That's why I agree with LOst when he says that yuji naka is just making easy money as a producer. Its not 3d Sonic that is bad. Its Naka, sonic needs someone with fresh ideas to introduce new concepts of gameplay and level design, not only making a new character per game and developing storylines.

Like the giant croc on the forest level in Sonic Heroes. Sure its a new idea. But it felt like you already have done it before with a whale and a truck in the middle of the city.

If I were you, I wouldn't care about storyline that much, if you pay attention every sonic game is just a remake of the same storyline, a mad doctor who needs emeralds to conquer the world with its evil robots.

If you don't understand what I mean with level design, here are some games to play:
    Comix Zone
    Ristar
    Taz Mania
    Megaman7
    Sonic3/K
    Yoshi Island
    And more...
Just see how these games doesn't make you go through the same situations over and over again, they actually has a something new to offer on every single area on every level, not only 30 seconds over and over again.

You misunderstood the quote which is porbably my fault, but what it translates to is 30 seconds of fun over and over again, not the same deal over and over again.... I'm gonna have to grab the dvd player, the halo dvd and hook it into the PC one of these days.

    I understood what you meant.

Its about having fun with the same, let's say, "source code", that is game engine.
But take Comic Zone as a example, the engine is just the same as final fight engines, the game could have been easyly (damn spelling) ruined if it was only about beating up hundreds of guys in static images at the background.

But the levels are so unique, you can interact with many objects in the background and the story is constantly flowing, with those dialogue balloons everywhere everytime.
There are many things that were programmed only to be used in a small moment of the game.
Its not the same 30 seconds of fun, bcause every second is unique...

...Or maybe I misunderstood your quote :P

To all of you who are complaining about Tails' voice:
Are you completely oblivious to the Japanese voicetrack? I wish I was fortunate enough to own a system other than the Gamecube, yet you all take it for granted. Alas I'm gonna have to wait for the Xbox 360 so that I can buy and play the Xbox version of Heroes. Same thing with Shadow most likely.

Four Os, three exclamation points. =P

Seriously, though, I love Comix Zone. There's just something about it that makes me keep wanting more... and more... and MORE!!!!!!!111

On the topic, yes, I agree, Heroes is pretty awful. I discussed this in a previous post, which I won't bother to find because I'm tired.

I found ComixZone interesting, especially after playing it on the smc+, btw, that "Testing, one two...SEGA!" creeped QJimbo out when I recorded it and gave him a copy of the file :P Anyways, my adventures in SH begins with this topic: that topic I made a while back!

I wonder what you'd do if you'd do if you were one of the people that bought it new for $49.99. Gamestop is messed up like that though. They'll buy a used game for 15% of the price new, and then sell it for 20% more than what you could get the game brand new for (see their site for preplayed games that cost more than buying them brand new!). The best thing to do is to trade with a friend who shows interest in the game (despite what you say about it, show them the game). It's meant to be an even exchange (or better to your advantage), but shouldn't be worse!

Are you sure it will be compatible? Rumors say that the XBox will not be backwards compatible with every game; only a few (Ninja Gaiden won't work, but of course Halo will). For what little respect Microsoft has gained in the gaming industry, they threw it all away, showing 3rd party developers and ports what they really think of their support.

  12. Can you PLEASE stop speaking in Fanboy Japanese? Either learn the entire language and speak that, or speak plain English. FBJ is just plain irritating.

On topic, I don't think it's fair to just blame poor voice acting (specifically, Tails' voice) for ruining the game. Personally, I didn't think it was that bad. I've yet to collect all the Emeralds and unlock the final boss, but even so, Hang Castle (and it's accompanying level who's name I've forgotten), for example, is pretty damn cool as Team Dark. The only big problem I had with SH were those God-damn Rail Canyon levels. What a frickin' waste of my time. If the voices bother you that much, you just need to learn to ignore them (which is what I did), not blame your apparent hatred of the game almost soley on one bad voice actor.

He has a point... For starters, Japanese people would never type "Sonikku", but "????" or just "Sonic"

I don't hate the game just because of bad voice acting, like I've said before, the game engine is horrible, the level designs were abismal, and the cinematics engine was crap.

You know what? I'm just going to stop trying to help you see the good side of Heroes, because no matter what I say, half of you will just blow me off, like everyone else who likes Heroes, and the other half of you will twist my words and make it sound like I'm an idiotic fanboy who thinks that graphics and music are the be-all and end-all of how to judge a game just because I complimented the soundtrack. Meanwhile it's you who are doing just that by judging games (Sonic Rush, Shadow the Hedgehog) before gameplay details can possibly be accurately ascertained, and insulting them generously (irony in that statement aside) just because five of you didn't like the last two games that Sonic Team made and the rest didn't bother playing the games and took everyone else's word for it that they sucked. Or worse, judging the game just because the main character happened to be one who happened to be liked by the younger Sonic fan base (not-so-affectionately referred to as "n00bs").

I can see you're pissed off because I do not agree with you. Sorry, but the games downsides are just too many and too obvious. I never said the games soundtrack sucked, if I did, I was probably typing while asleep or something. I did find the soundtrack to be very good, it was one of the only things I found good about the game. And about "n00bs", I don't often call them like that, I'm civiallized and don't try to pretend like I'm, what the Internet Community calls "1337"(that's leet if you can't see it), I call them just noobs, no need for the 00, oo does just fine. Once again, if I've done that, its probably because I was tired/asleep/grogy. As for the stuff about SCS, its not that hard to skim past a post, hell I do it all the time when I find posts by people who are currents on my "must-die" list. It may take an extra second, but its worth it. It keeps people from bitching about the most pointless things ever complained about. I personally couldn't care how anyone talks, mainly because I switch off between normal, 1337, and what-the-fuck.

And so ends my long ass rant about rants....good day.

    EDIT: Early morning typos.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way. I get really pissed when people barage my brain with this attempt at mix 'n match language bullshit.

What's really funny about it is that people who actually speak japanese and English will just laugh at you, if you're lucky, behind your back. Stop trying to be something you're not, or fully realize what you really are. I really wish Pachuka's anti-otaku pages were still up.. this really calls for them...

On the subject of Heroes, I loved it the first time through. After that, it was just really, really boring. Zero replay value for me. It's like one of those random MMOs or Arcade games that you play once, but then never play again and can never remember the name of. I bought is new, and a month or so after beating it, loaned it to a friend. He didn't return it for 6 months! So I figured that, upon its return, I could enjoy it again. Nope. Zero replay value for me, regardless of the pretty graphics and good sound track.

I think what it really boils down to is 3D games in general. Soooo many of them have technical problems that make the game very bland or very unenjoyable, either because the developers cannot do all they would like to, or because the user cannot experience what the developers intended. Lots of games don't have any issues with camera angles or screenspace, but many more do. Back in the day of 16 bit games, problems like this just didn't exist. Games were more difficult and much more enjoyable. When 3D games began to take over, the focus really shifted drastically from originality to graphics. Take the Capcom classic Strider. That game was original, creative, entertaining, and challenging, and it still is. It's by no means the prettiest game, but it is a shitload of fun. Modern 3D games typically don't have that element to them, anymore.

As for storyline... well, for most games back in the day, storyline was either minimal or integral. You would have a game like Sonic, with a blurb in the directions and not much else, or a game like Final Fantasy that completely drew you in. for the most part, RPG-type games haven't really suffered to speak of by the improvement in technology (with the notable exception of Pokemon Colloseum), but action-oriented games have, greatly. The only reason there are any complaints about the Sonic Heroes storyline is because the gameplay is no longer sufficient to keep the consumer happy. Nobody really cared much why Sonic was collecting emeralds and fighting Robotnik, because the story in the book was so vague. The vagueness simply served as a pleasant backdrop to the actual gameplay, something to think about while you loop-de-loop or enjoy the credits... not something that was forced on you every 5 minutes as a distraction.

What I'm getting at is that the problem doesn't lie so much with SEGA as it does with the industry in general. And when the problem is that ingrained, there really is nothing complaining can do about it... just do what I do... play the old games you haven't beaten yet (not Sonic... I've done all those. I mean, play the random and obscure titles floating around), and try to play any of the newer ones for free... borrow them or something. That's just how it is, these days.

Mario Sunshine was repetitive, monotonous, and pretty.
StarFox Assault was just aweful, as far as character control and camera. But pretty.
    Luigi's Mansion wasn't anything special.
Pikmin wasn't an action game, and the Zelda games barely qualify.
Smash Brothers is awesome... I literally play with the pros.

One game... one game. Yeah, Nintendo sure does rock my anus!
