The IGN video your speaking of was the intro trailer above.

EDIT: Ironic enough, we have it hosted:

Sonic (?): Coming summer of 2055...?
For some reason I was under the impression that music wasn't being hosted on Retro anymore. Bandwidth issues or something? In any case, thanks dude. I prefer the original version.

    No problem. :)

I'll never know why they changed the song like that, never did like the new version. hell the first thing I did when I got the PC version was remove the intro track with the beta track.

Was it ever explained why the track was changed?

    Preference, most likely.

If nothing else, I could try it out on my GF's Wii after I get a PAL copy and throw it on her HDD. I think I already have an NTSC version on there, so I could try it with both. Although I suck at the game, so I'll have to cheat like shit to make a decent comparison :P

OT: Speaking of cheating, shouldn't the various AR/etc codes listed on the wiki have unencrypted, raw versions available? In a way, that also serves as mild documentation, since raw codes directly list the target address and the stuff value. Yes, I know there are tools to de/encrypt codes, but in the interest of openness the raw codes would be a good idea to have as well.

    I DONE MAKED GAMES.
So, for years I've been playing Sonic R on Sonic Gems Collection, mainly due to my Sega Saturn being out of order. I got a new one recently.

Well, for those years of the Gems Collection version, I'd do this thing where I'd clear the game selecting each course only once; beating it in first place with all coins and chaos emeralds, and then beating the bonus character.

Tried this on my Saturn version just now, and it only registers the character unlock; neither the first-place victory nor the chaos emerald(s) register. A bit shit, that.

Can anyone in a non-EU territory verify that this logic error is present in their version?

Check out what I found. in my research of Sonic Toys I found the concept artist who drew up some of the designs for the ReSaurus Sonic Figurines.

If you don't remember or are too young to remember ReSaurus was the first company to produce Sonic Adventure Action Figures (1999 - 2000) AND This was the first real set of Sonic action figures.

He draws for comic books now but its a pretty sweet piece of history here in his gallery.

@Jayextee: Yes, that's the case in all versions. I remember my surprise when I first saw a Sonic R speedrun that did only one run through each level, as I assumed that they would not have changed that between the Saturn version and the PC version and its ports.

I would imagine people have; it's one of the commercials included in Sonic Jam.

That said, as amusing a coincidence as it is, I wouldn't read too much into it. (You can. I wouldn't.)

    Probably something minimalistic
I've seen that video multiple times before and I still cant take my mind off of that foreshadowing

Id be surprised if this commercial didn't influence Rooftop Run Act 1 in sonic generations

I found out two things today I don't think I knew before. In Sonic 2, the invincibility box transforms along with Super Sonic due to a palette change, giving the big star in the box some glitter around it, and the Mystic Cave boss avoids you f you stand pretty much anywhere when you're Super, which is fucking clever, as he only hits Sonic enough to jab him and not his full body, intentional for Super Sonic?

Probably not. Even Super Sonic wasn't intentional for Super Sonic.

Has anyone ever noticed that Sonic Heroes is mostly a throwback to the Genesis games? Stages divided in two acts (I know SA1 had this too, but it was less obvious), the return of Special Stages, simpler/lighter plot when compared to previous 3D Sonic games, and Metal Sonic at the end (he was mostly forgotten until Heroes, and 2003 was the 10th anniversary of him/Sonic CD)...

    Trapped in my own thoughts.
Two stageplays, a screenplay, and an album
Sonic Heroes was meant as a throwback, and I thought they made it pretty obvious. All playable characters are doing roughly the same thing (no more piloting mech suits or flying a biplane), the stage tropes are somewhat more unique and fantastical than in the Adventure games, Seaside Hill has an obvious GHZ-style checkerboard pattern, etc. The only thing they really fucked up was the core gameplay.

    Working on my art!
Actually I'd say the atrocious level designs and the butt rock were the game's greatest faults

Well... the gameplay and the level design go hand in hand in this game. The levels are constantly stopping your progression to show off the multi-character mechanic, or to show off OMG SWITCH PUZZLES where the solution is always break some crates or kill enemies until you find the switch. The thing is, when mandatory use of game mechanics makes the game less fun, the mechanic itself is at least partly at fault.

+ - Unpopular opinion: I really liked the buttrock in SA1/2/Heroes, and I never cared for the orchestrated stuff we've seen in Unleashed and Colors

Heroes was pretty light on the buttrock anyway.
