Let's read that list as the higher-ups at SEGA would:

    • Let's not lead our users so much towards making microtransactions
    • Let's make new stuff for free
    • Let's spend time and money in making cosmetic changes
    • Let's make our users spend less money

    I don't think they will. =|

But Sonic Jump already did those things. What I don't get is, why such different philosophies for two games made by the same company, particularly when Sonic Jump did it in such a way that is probably a fine balance between playing the game and micro transactions (or SaSASR which eventually became a micro transaction game).

Honestly if they just made red rings obtainable I'd be ok. Like, in anyway. Like a red ring every 100,000 points, or you could spend 100 normal rings on a red ring, or just randomly throw them in levels, or just get rid of those fucking things and use normal rings for everything. You could still pay for them, but you could play the game and get them too. As it is right now though, it's just unfair.

They're probably experimenting with how much they can get away with when it comes to charging for stuff like that. It's not like they tried with Sonic Dash. They just copied Temple Run/Subway Surfer, used assets from other Sonic games and slapped a price on it. It's ridiculous that they're asking money just to be able to play it when Subway Surfers is free and has more content: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/subway-surfers/id512939461?mt=8

So they've reduced the price to 0.69p already. That's nice for those who bought it at full price. Sega need to sort out their app pricing.

I love Retro's sense of humor. We don't condone piracy and P-I-N-G-A-S makes you unfunny.

When I first heard about this game, I admit I had some misconceptions. Based on what others were saying, it sounded like missions were each their own level and once you did them all, that was it. No replaying the levels, you just had to wait for the newer content. Fortunately this turned out to not be the case, with missions instead just being achievements you can get from playing the randomly-generated loops.

Having purchased the title, I'm of the opinion the game is a solid case of "Your Mileage May Vary." If you want all the unlockables or don't have the latest iPad or iPhone, then you are going to hate this very, very much. Whether its microtransactions or lag, respectively, it's going to enormously hamper your ability to enjoy the game.

On the other hand, if you just want to play casually and have the more recent iOS software, then you're probably going to have bundles of fun. When I play I don't focus on high score or rings or anything else, so much as seeing how long I can last before an obstacle inevitably sucker punches me. Sometimes the most fun games aren't the ones you can win, but seeing how long you can last until you lose.

One minor complaint I'd have is that the controls are sometimes unresponsive when you have to homing attack to get over the larger water sections. Sometimes it works, sometimes Sonic gets an all-expenses paid vacation to Davy Jones' locker. Other than this minor frustration though, I think the game is devilish fun and I definitely would recommend it to anyone who has time to kill.

An update seems to have just been released for this game that aparrently increases the fairness of the obstacle layout. It also improves performance on generation 4 iOS devices aparrently.

EDIT: There are also aparrently new daily missions for collecting red star rings.

Also the game is free to play now, like it should be: http://www.pocketgamer.co.uk/r/iPad/Sonic+Dash/news.asp?c=49738

I like this. Play the game for multiple days in a row, get all the puzzle pieces, unlock better stuff as you go along. You can get tails and red rings via this method, unlike before where there were just enough missions to unlock Amy.

Good work sega you slightly redeemed this game

I was wondering why you had 676,038 points on the leaderboard. How many retries?

Just had a quick play through after the update.

They've done everything correctly apart from object placement. I still suffer from surprise deaths through no fault of my own.

I agree, there have been many times where I have jumped over a large obstacle just to crash straight into a badnik hidden behind it and lost my rings. I have also died when the path suddenly dipped downwards and I crashed into an obstacle that I hadn't seen before I hit it. :argh:

The update is nice but yes the object placement is still a wee bit unfair in certain sections, I understand doing spin -> jump -> spin and stuff like that but when you put a spin barrier up and I cant see the other obstruction directly in front of me, then it's dumb luck if I keep spinning or jump in time. Still nice to know Hardlight were listening to critique of the app, it's a fun little title and certainly even better now it's freemium - hopefully the android version follows suit whenever that releases

Also it seems if you played the app before this update hit, then you get 10 free revive tags for your troubles. Or I did anyway - woo

It simply isn't playable on my 4th gen iPod touch. It lags bad.

Glad to hear they're making the game more fair and turned it into a free to play title. Shame it wasn't like that to begin with. Could've helped a lot when it came to how it was received by the press. [LINK]

    What? Don't be silly.
So after a small hiccup I finally got all the missions done, the daily reward thing really made it a bit more enjoyable, since now you can get infinite Red Rings just by playing the game instead of buying them, which technically you don't even need to really do anymore unless you revive a lot.

Speaking of which, lucky enough to get Tails out of the Day 5+ rewards and from the looks of it I can get Knuckles too. Which means the only character I paid Red Rings for was Amy, and I only did that because I wanted to play as somebody who wasn't Sonic.

Not a bad little Diversion, but Sonic Jump was far better.
