Sonic & All-Stars Racing: Transformed

So, the 3DS version demo. Game's pretty garbage. Sonic controls like a shopping cart and I love being told STUNT failed even though I'm drifting, and tricks not responding at all 60% of the time.

Perhaps they'd do rather well to just quietly yank this game off the shelves and pretend it never existed.

 

That's shocking. The DS version of the first game was so good.

 

I only ever played the demo of the DS one, but I didn't think it was anything special. If you approached any jump in the you would automatically fly over it in the most shameful of all scripted events. Doesn't matter what speed you were moving at, as soon as you hit an invisible object your car would be magically lifted through the air at high speed. What the fuck?

 

Idk why they just didn't bother with a 3DS version. It was just never gonna work the way they were doing it, yet they wasted their money and time doing so. Should have spent that time making DLC for the Console/PC/Vita versions that aren't ass.

 

The PC copy got the game content packed in .M00 and .M01 files. The sound files seems to be packed in .pck files however. I have tried to extract the .pck files with a couple of programs, but the files become corrupt when doing so. If you need any help I may be able to upload some of the files for you to experiment with.

 

The DS version of the original sold best I believe, so they'd be daft not to do a 3DS version this time around. DLC is very expensive to produce, and SEGA probably aren't so confident in the returns. S0L has said that it's unlikely we'll be seeing new courses DLC for this game.

Now what I don't understand is why the wasted time and money developing a real piss-poor battle mode. The rest of the game is fantastic, but battle mode is shockingly bad. They shouldn't have bothered with it at all.

 

I remember we tried to do a battle race during the last community game and just as I was about to get the chao to the drop point, Bartman slammed into me, my car went flying like a box in Sonic 2006 all the way out of the game world and then the whole match just crashed for everyone.

Hilarious, but what a terrible mode.

 

I am not sure if some of you already know about the rolling exploit that can be used when flying, so I guess I'll post my video showing it in action. Basically, if you keep on rolling frequently when flying you will gain a speed increase. This is not intended at all according to S0L, and Sumo plan on fixing this soon. It is hard for me to explain how it works, but what happens is that it combines the speed of the roll which makes you fly faster than normally. This is starting to happen more and more when playing Matchmaking and it can be quite a pain when I want to play fair. Doing this can be useful when doing Time Attacks, which you can see in my video. The first half of the video is when I'm flying normally and the other half is when I'm starting to roll. Take a look at the time difference, it is quite noticable.

That rolling exploit is hilarious, reminds me of how in Zelda speed-runs people back-flip across the world map because Link moves faster that way for some strange reason. I'm going to have to try the rolling trick for World Tour mode. I still think it's silly that more emphasis is put on World Tour than the actual Grand Prix, but I still gotta unlock some characters.

I've personally never used this site, but it shows up on reddit.com/r/gamedeals fairly frequently so I assume it's legit. Anyways they have the PC version of the game on sale for $15. I'm likely going to pick it up tomorrow since I forgot to deposit my paycheck today...

 

It's legit, also note that the game needs to be activated through Steam because of it being Steamworks.

Anyone know how to fix that damn Network Error on PC version multiplayer? I've searched for answers and found nothing that works. I've tried setting my server location to my state but still doesn't work.

If none of that works, try asking about it on the Steam forums and you might get an answer. Besides that, S0L (and I think maybe some other Sumo members) frequent those forums.

It's a shame that one of the best racing games to come out in a long time is getting so little attention, particularly a Sonic/Sega based one. The (far, far superior) PC version has been largely ignored, probably because Sega has done such a terrible job marketing it. PC isn't even listed as one of the platforms the game is available for on the official website.

Really, this game is fucking fantastic. Everyone should get it already. If you have a half-decent PC, which is anything made in the last 5 years or so with discreet graphics, it's a better buy than the console version if only because of exclusive content. If you have a relatively modern PC you should be able to run it at max detail 1080p 60fps no problem. Texture, geometry and shader detail are all improved over the console versions too.

 

Apparently it was selling more on GMG than Steam because of the discount codes.
