    Hi there,
I've recently found at ebay a guy who sells the Saturn USB pad who PlaySega produced a few years ago ( the white one). I'm really tempted to buy it, but before doing it, I would like to know if anyone of you have one of these?
Does you know if it works on Ps3? Since it's USB, it should work, isn't it? Is it good, or just a crappy plastic toypad?

I heard it's good, but I'd rather use a PS2 or PS3 controller, it has all the buttons plus dual analog sticks and a good dpad.

I don't own the controller, but I do know that most third-party USB controllers for PS3 have been disabled after a firmware update a while back - not sure of the reasoning, and I don't know which (if any) third-party controllers work other than the DualShock 3, but I suppose it wouldn't harm anything to try it out yourself.

The PS3 recognizes it as an HID device, and the mapping is completely stupid, so don't try it.

It's an OK joypad. Nothing great, a bit cheap. Modeled very closely after a real Saturn controller, but the d-pad is nowhere as nice. The buttons are pretty responsive.

Ain't nothin' wrong with a dualshock d-pad, unless you're playing fighting games. Hell of a lot better than anything you'd get out of an Xbox.

I have a couple of the old official USB Sega pads (pretty much identical to Saturn MkII controllers with a USB plug on the end), and I'm very fond of them. I found the PlaySega controllers when I was looking for more of them, but I stopped short of buying one, since everything I've read points to them being the inferior eBay knock-offs that just happen to be sold under the Sega brand.

The PCB and most of the buttons are apparently identical, but the shoulder buttons and d-pad assembly are supposed to be weaker. But as I recall, you can mix and match bits with a real Saturn MkII controller to get a quality USB one. There's a decent thread about it... somewhere... on the Internet, which I'm unhelpfully not going to link because I don't remember where it is and you can search for it as well as I can. :)

HID device? I'm not very tech inclined so I don't understand, Care to explain? Also, how much stupid is the mapping? If the game has configurable mapping for the controller it should be usable, isn't it?

HID stands for Human Interface Device. So HID device is redundant. :eng101:

This topic made me buy one of these controllers from eBay on impulse, so in about a week I'll be able to give my thoughts and impressions.

If you can try it on PS3, please, could you tell me if it's usable for genesis games like Ultimate Sonic Collection and the recent genesis releases?

So basically half of all games you'd use it with (the other half being shmups)?

It's a shitty Chinese knockoff that Sega ended up putting their name on. If you can find one of the official Sega ones from quite a few years ago though you should get one. The official ones are really hard to find anymore but they work great on PC and PS3.

To be fair, the PS1 controller/DualShock1 is actually pretty good for fighting games [the DS2 and 3 are really bad, simple motions like QCF love to drop on those].

Whooooooops, didn't mean to type the equivalent of "Human Interface Device Device"... :specialed:

True, the PS1 pad is superior to the Dual Shock 2 and 3 for fighting games. The Dual Shock 2 and 3 require being pressed in all the way to register due to being analog. The PS1 pad doesn't need to be pressed in all the way. I have a harder time doing Akumas multihit attack on the Dual Shock 2 in comparison to the Dual Shock 1.

Don't buy one of these things, for the reasons Polygon Jim mentioned. Get a real Saturn controller and an adapter.

I've known people who tore off the skin from their thumbs with the d-pad while playing Streetfighter Ex on the PS1.

I have the PlaySega controller, and the internals snapped so the Dpad no longer works.

Not worth the money for the official licence.

For what it's worth I got mine this morning and tested it for a while by playing Sonic 2.

It works great in Windows 7, just plug and play.

It feels slightly cheap (the triggers and the C button are sort of "clicky") but I'm happy with it for the money I paid ($7.50). We'll see how long it lasts.

Yeah, does not work with PS3.
Sorry for the late reply, You can use it on the computer though, even works with my AXSX project, and sub projects.
