Something's wrong here. I haven't seen a single speed booster in those screenshots. How can I play Sonic 4 without my speed boosters?!
May 16th, eh? It'd be a good way to kick off the Summer gaming madness, if you ask me. That is if Dimps doesn't fuck it up, of course. :v:
I think after the reaction to Episode 1, and the release of Generations, Sega is probably pressuring the devs to pay attention to methods that work, and to not fuck this one up. Looking at the graphics, it appears that a lot more a bit more some actual measurable amount of effort took place in planning out the look of this game. Though the shortage of acts is a bit disconcerting, and we still can't be too sure of the gameplay mechanics as of yet... it's looking fairly promising so far. I'm seriously doubting they'll fuck up anywhere near as much as Episode 1.
The screenshots look beautiful... As others have said, like a toned down version of the Hedgehog Engine. Gotta say, this is shaping up to be the game Sonic 4 should be and is fixing all the problems which Episode I presented. No crosshairs, no boosters, uncurling confirmed to be fixed, improved physics (to be seen), new beautiful looking graphics engine, better models, online multi-player, original zones and badniks... Colour me impressed so far SEGA. Now I'm just going to sit in my room impatiently for gameplay footage.
May 16th? That's the day before my birthday. Somebody buy it for me as a gift. I'd feel dirty if I bought it myself.
BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP, that's what. EDIT: And yeah, they're just out of place in a Sonic game unless you're playing as Gamma/Omega/whatever robot.
Then simple, remove the sound. I don't see whats the harm with the crosshairs. It tells you exactly when you're able to perform a homing attack and which enemy is your target. More good then any harm. EDIT: There's things to legitimately complain about but crosshairs? No.
What's baffling about it is that they actually added the sound after the Partnernet leak, so they must think it's a good thing. :v:
Honestly, the noise doesn't bother me. If every single one of you can get used to the ring noise every millisecond, a beep every now and then shouldn't bother you. Besides it made beeps since its first appearance in Unleashed. EDIT: Wow man, someone post that "Sonic fans complain about everything" pic.
I'd rather have a crosshair with sound then no crosshair at all... at least in 3D games, that way you know where your going while homing attacking. It's not really necessary in a 2D game though.
Well, nobody actually wanted the homing attack in the first place, so the crosshair and sound just add insult to injury.
Random thought dump time 1. Since Sonic, Tails, Eggman, and Metal Sonic were the only characters that got classic skins in generations, and are the only characters in this game, to not have a classic skin option would be a fucking waste. Do it Sega. 2. Oddly the only thing they changed about the HUD was the clock. MOAR ADVANCED CLOCK 3. I wonder if Sonic stands exactly perpendicular to the ground still. That always looked... strange. 4. I really want to see that plant boss in action now that I've seen what the game looks like. I'm guessing it's the aquatic ruin boss but it could be an unknown 4th level, depending on if the ice level and snow carnival level are actually the same level. 5. Despite lack of stages, as long as we get 3 good acts and a boss in each stage I'll be happy. 6. Either they got rid of the dust trail behind Sonic or they really toned it down, but either way thank god. 7. The blur effect was replaced with something less shitty. Good. 8. Is the special stage background the same as the one in Ep 1? 9. I'm glad this game is episodic now. It may be in parts, but they really did seem to listen to criticism and fix things. If it was just one game, we'd of got 12 levels of crap. 10. Still no nod to the best special stages of all time from Sonic 3D Blast Saturn. Sega I am disapoint.
Whether you like it or not, its in the game. So deal with it. At least the cross hair tells you when is the right time to perform a homing attack so something like this wont happen if you press it too early.
Man don't jinx it. If they really did fix and update the crap out of everything else then I am expecting nothing short of a stellar soundtrack.
If this winds up being decent, I'll only want another episode or two just so we can have more original stages of the same line of quality. I hate the whole concept that this is episodic and I think that not only should the game have looked like this from the beginning, but it should've been 2x as long, but I'm a consumerist asshole and I want more 2D Sonic games so if this winds up being solid I'll buy it and hope for at least one more episode under the presumption that it's of the same quality. If this is good at all, that is.
