After reminding myself once more of the hidden musical stings upon the game discovering corrupt saves in SFs 1+2 thanks to this thread, I pondered whether a quick sound test access was possible in both of them. Looking around, it seems not to be the case - SF1 will apparently only give it to you upon beating the game, while SF2's sound test is merely rumoured to exist but nobody has ever come across the correct cheat code for it, or doesn't know how to input it "correctly". I assume there must be a flag or two that must trigger them, but alas my 68000 programming knowledge is flaky at best, not to mention I've only hacked Amiga stuff to date. =P Any programming wizkids care to clarify things? Also also, I was intrigued by this page regarding hidden debug functions in the second game - I'm just hoping that there's some emulator out there which can replicate the sort of insane input combinations the game supposedly expects that require you to use a control-mapping device. Again can anyone shed any light on this? Thanking you!
I'll try and poke around #sf2hack, but from what I gather, nobody has really found these functions. Particularly since Wiz and BigNailCow were disassembling the game at some point, I am in doubt they exist.
The sound test does exist in SF2 (in fact it was known well before SF1's was) but it may only be in the Japanese version. http://project2612.org/phpbb3/viewtopic.php?t=166 http://www.gamefaqs.com/genesis/563341-shining-force-ii/cheats
Oh, yeah, that'd be right. They were digging around the US version, not Japanese. Keep in mind that this was years ago, however.
