It should be up to Taxman to say what he's been/being paid if he wants to disclose it. If you really what to give Taxman support then push for this engine to be used in Sonic 4 Episode 2 so we can have these physics for all future Sonic games and even for the 3D games that have the 2D sections. I will be majorly disappointed if Sega passes up on this engine for their main games because this engine is that German piece of engineering that been missing since the classics.

December 20th for US PSN? Ffffuck. I guess I'll just get it on XBLA, then.

Yay, SNCBNK/PP bad future. Too bad, I'll have to wait longer for the Steam version though. =(

Would it be impractical and gluttonous to ask for a Dreamcast port, Taxman? Please? =|

That's true. I wasn't asking to be nosey, I just wasn't sure if he had already disclosed that. The only thing that is really stopping me from buying more copies is not knowing where my money is going. But that hasn't really stopped me so far XD. I guess I will do a separate donation to The Taxman.

It's less Sega "not wanting money" and more how digital releases are handled. Check out Blaze's post a few pages back to get the gist of it. It's why most developers don't hype up digital releases unless they know for sure they got the date locked in.

That, and what more can you say about Sonic CD? Granted, quite a few older Sonic fans have had a crack at it thanks to the original, the (odd) PC version, the PC port on Gems Collection, and through various methods of swashbuckling shenanigans. Sega's point here is to court the newer fans or those who have never touched Sonic CD at all.

You could argue they plug the Retro Engine, but that means nothing to the common player outside this community or a young developer interested in what the Retro Engine is capable of. As quite a few of us have already said, Retro Engine does far more than just run Sonic.

The new features in the game and the fact it's been reworked to handle an expanded viewing range are certainly nothing to scoff at, but at the end of the day, the main part of the game is unchanged: there won't be a sudden blind side of "Oh, hey... here's R2 'Rainbow Ravine Zone'".

That's not to say other surprises may await...

My fault I should have worded it better as it looks like I was telling you rather than informing you. :)

    Regarding this:
They might have been just looking forward to taking advantage of the composite tricks with vertical dithering, as seen here:

Do the final PP waterfalls look like that through composite?

  11. This reminded me to ask, does Taxman still owns the Retro Engine and licensed it to Sega rather than selling it? Sorry if this has already been answered, it's just the prospect of more Retro Engine games from other developers sounds awesome.

Yes, the Retro Engine still belongs to Taxman and SEGA has licensed it.

That doesn't like right. I always played my games on RF cables and never saw any rainbow dithering, sorry.

Honestly, this is a project I'd love to work on. I'd be more than happy to sequence some past versions of the American tracks if someone with the technical knowhow wants to tell me what limitations I'm working with and help me get them in the game proper.

Maybe Sega Wasn't making a sonic game because Rainbows and shit are for gey little green men called Leprechauns!

Please God! don't let R2 be this Running on Rainbows or what the fuck ever the level could have been called.
........ if that was the case than good riddens!

OH FUCK YES! I CANNOT WAIT TO PLA-

    ...

Well, I'm only buying it through Steam and there isn't even a release date for that. :/ The fact XBLA users get it six days before PSN users because of Microsoft's bullshit is just wrong. Didn't Sonic 4 release on WiiWare and PSN before XBLA though? I don't really understand why developers put up with Microsoft's bullshit. A lot of them should just stop releasing game on Microsoft's digital platform until they change their damn policies.
