I picked this up at 8am this morning...and true to form, it took about 4 hours to complete (that's doing the bare minimum / 1 challenge stage per zone). I've got to say, I was a little concerned at the additional missions initially, but I've been REALLY enjoying them for the most part. Some are a little tedious while others are super easy, but overall they actually made me feel like I was 5 again playing a new Sonic game on my Genesis.

Interestingly - I made a point of swapping in other music tracks for the missions and WOW - what a different experience. Playing Classic Sonic opposite Espio in Crisis City with Toxic Caves blaring made the whole thing work for me. Likewise, cranking up Sonic Boom on some of those Seaside Hill missions and Palmtree Panic in Spagonzz was pretty fantastic. You wouldn't think some of these would work but they do! This was a BRILL idea ST...super classy.

If I have one major gripe with the game - it's the rival battles. Fucking hell - the Shadow battle was interminable. SO boring. And I ran into a glitch twice where I was able to 'kill' Shadow in the beginning somehow...so for the next 10 minutes I proceeded to collect 999 rings! Metal and Stardust Speedway LOOKED phenomenal, but the battle itself was pretty benign. Same goes with Silver...repetitive and underwhelming.

They should have reworked the 'mystery' of the Time Eater so Classic Eggman could play a role...I think they missed an opportunity to revisit some of his classic battles/vehicles!

I have to say, speed running this game is a BLAST! Just got first place on the Speed Highway Leaderboards (1:51:28) and it was a LOT of fun! I think speed challenge contests would be fun as well.

It would be amazing if someone was making a comprehensive Red Star Ring guide. Some of the City Escape rings are making me want to rip my hair out.

Classic Knuckles and modern Rouge are my favourites.

    Three more days...

The Casino Night DLC is actually pretty cool.
I was just expecting some lame Pinball table with almost nothing to do, but that thing's pretty much a Sonic Pinball Party table with a lot to do. Haven't figured out how to light up the emeralds, though.

    Edit:
Holy shit, you guys, there are remixes of music from Sonic Battle and the Saturn version of 3D Blast asdjashdkajsdhals

  6. I let my girlfriend play it today, she was a Sonic fan in the genesis days but hasn't played a game since, she fell in love with Classic Sonic.

And for one night all was right in the Kail household.

Cripes, I've been sinking way too many hours into this game at a time. It's so addictive.

Also, I really like the skill system. There's some real gems in there, though they mostly seem to be for Classic Sonic.

Skateboarding through (most of) Green Hill = best thing ever.

    MIDI-to-SMPS-conversions, mostly. Takin' requests, too.
Makese sense, considering the original Japanese name of that move being W Spin Attack (W here being that Japanese thing where it means "double.")

  9. Imagine how disappointed I was when I charged into Sky Sanctuary and used the Insta-Shield on the first Egg-Robo.

Okay, so, I haven't read all the Spoilers, so pardon me if it's been posted, but

If you run into the Collection Room and hold Back (on the 360, at least) for five seconds, Sonic drops into another room and asks for password input.

    Does anyone know any passwords?

    the password is... 1
    "1."
    "1!"

    2
    "2."
    "2!"

    3
    "3."
    "3!"

    4
    "4."
    "4!"

    ...5
    "5."
    "5!"

...So the password is 1, 2, 3, 4, 5? That's the stupidest password I've ever heard! That's the kind of password an idiot keeps on his luggage!

  12. Passwords are 6 digits foo. :P

    Also, 062391 and 230691 don't work.

    Spaceballs was a good movie.

To keep this on topic: Any updates on the Steam demo?

I dunno if this was noticed or mentioned... but..

In Seaside Hill (Modern) when you run outside the boundaries on top of the water (the floaty red balls) the giant chopper from Green Hill comes and eats you resulting in instant death.

I noticed when I accidentally fell off the main platform and tried to run back to land.

Has anyone gotten all five Red Star Rings on Modern City Escape? I could use some help.

  17. Omochao actually tells you about it during one of his loading screen hints.

Looks like Joystiq didn't like it.

So, how soon after the PC version (finally) comes out should I be expecting to see insane fan-made hacks and level modifications from you guys? We all know it's inevitable. Most likely. :v:

I don't see how anyone who likes Sonic games can dislike this, it's so much fun.
