I'm confused here. Is the music completely different (from JP/EU and US versions) or are they just bitching about finally receiving the music that was originally intended for the game (the JP tracks). I wish they did it sooner with the Sonic Mega Collection (US)!

Read it the other way around.

The first image is of the Japanese release before Sonic CD came out in the US. The second image is the same guys' review of the US version.

Part of Team Megamix, but haven't done any actual work in ages.
Hm, I wonder if there's gonna be a Mac-compatible version? If not, I can always get it for the PS3, I suppose...

We all do my friend, we all do. I always complained about that thing in the PC Version :P

  6. If it's anything like Sonic 4 on W7/XBLA, then they'll be defined as two different games. Achievements independent of each other with the XBLA release as 'Sonic CD' and the W7 as 'Sonic CD (Windows 7)'

They were freaking out about not getting the same music as the Japanese version in 1993. Sega has no excuse for depriving us of the original music.

Except they couldn't get the rights to it back then? I highly doubt they said "Let's spend money on making a different soundtrack for no reason!"

Sega felt the soundtrack wouldn't jive with American audiences, as that was too synth pop for the '90s. Sega of America decided to get a more rock based soundtrack to suit the then-current tastes in American music ingestion.

In other words, it was a spur the moment move, but it worked because there are people who can't stand the International Soundtrack compared to the American one.

It all comes down to licensing. Then and now. Just get the fuck over it.

It all comes down to licensing something you own the full and exclusive rights too.

"It was in the other releases of Sonic CD therefore they must own it!". Bit more complicated than that mate.

    EDIT:
I should say that isn't so much directed at you, it's just that a lot of comments around the net have made that assumption. If you assume you own the rights to something, you might land in trouble later :P, much better to make sure everything is legally ship shape first!

Oh, right. SEGA does not own the soundtrack of their own game they have copyrighted. I mean Sonic Boom could mean anything, for all we know this is Guile's theme song.

It is not like this soundtrack has been released globally ever or anything like that. Just in America. Spencer is very intent on this. In no way will you hear this music used in games that do not contain Sonic CD - nope.

And regardless of all this, licensing is a very expensive procedure. Not something SEGA-Sammy is able to afford, even if they did it half a dozen times before. Evidence is not even required on SEGA's part due to the massive costs involved.

  14. Much hate in you, there is.

They probably forgot to put a clause in the English version of the licensing contract that allows for digital distribution. Lots of western games contracts from before 2001 did. That's why Crash Bandicoot 2 was removed from PSN for a while (the voice tracks weren't legally allowed to be digitally distributed in English) and why Megaman Legends 1/2 are only available on PSN in Japan, for instance. Perhaps rather than be sarcastic, you should just y'know.. think about things before writing.

If SEGA need to work out some kinks in the contracts, at least they're trying. Just use the other soundtrack. Licensing is much more complex than you seem to think it is. I'm glad we're getting a proper port of ANY version of Sonic CD at all.

People bitch for years about not getting the EU/JAP sound track, now we finally are we're still bitching about it. I am just so glad that this long ignored game is finally getting the treatment it deserves. I am more excited about this than generations.

DASH 1 & 2 are available on PSP only in Japan, and are not on PSN at all in any part of the world.

Be careful what you advise (?).

Otherwise, good points made. =) They gave me idea about the fate of other games that have not been released digitally.

  18. Eehh, I wasn't really being sarcastic at all whilst writing... gonna consider myself still in the clear, just my knowledge of Megaman DASH was slightly off. :P Glad my points were semi-helpful. (Off topic, but I still wish they'd bring Ape Escape 1 to PSN in English speaking countries..)

This didn't come to WiiWare due to Nintendo's admittedly draconian file size limits. This doesn't seem to be the case for the 3DS, so I hope this comes to the Nintendo eShop.

But they'd have to make it 3D first! Don't think it's ever gonna happen.
