Wow, this is really, really good. I need to find a way to play this hack on my CRT TV, I think it'd look pretty good like that.

I found a bug =P If you let it load up the demo screen (which I did as I wanted to see if the title ended on anything other than a fadeout) and you hit start right away to go back to the title again, the cloud graphics are garbled.

However that's my only complaint about an otherwise pretty damn awesome hack - fluid animation, some really nice level gimmicks and a working implementation of the GHZ ball =P

I'm way too late to say this, but.. holy ass, you've blown us away again! I love the smooth animation, awesomely scrumptious title screen, and everything about it. The awesomeness just can not be described in words. I love how you decided to do the totally smooth animations, which give the game an overall way more polished feel as well as increasing the rom size a fuckton =P

But yeah, I echo what everyone else has said - holy fucking fuck, this is awesome.

Thanks; good picture quality/resolution, but a shame about the frame-rate.

As for the hack itself, basically what others have said; this is impressive, particularly for the fact that nothing was omitted from being jazzed up. Keep at it! Looking forward to more info on your homebrew, too.

This is incredible. Not only does it have some technically beautiful stuff - the Title Screen (and Sega logo), the slidy physics on ice, and the ball - but it's visually GORGEOUS! I can't emphasise enough how sexy those frames of animation are. There are SO MANY OF THEM! I spent a good few minutes just slowly rolling at the start of the level, watching him spin. And going through the loops! There are definitely more angular sprites, and it flows so amazingly. Oh and I love the way his quills move, as well. And that's just Pana! The level design is amazing, both from a visual and gameplay perspective. The snoowwwflaaaakes! And aside from one or two death pits, a fantastic piece of work. I need more of this.

    MarkeyJester is my new overlord.

Music glitch get! Grab an invincibility in the lower areas then quickly go up to the first Robotnik encounter where he freezes the zone, and if your invincibility is still in effect after he's gone the Door Into Summer remix will replace the ice level music once it wears off.

  8. As everyone has previously stated, I expected nothing but gained EVERYTHING.

The graphics are gorgeous, the animation is SO FLUID, the movement is great, and the innovations throughout this hack are THROUGH THE ROOF.

I couldn't stop smiling the whole time I played this hack. Please for the love of god make MORE.

It's hacks like these that keep me coming back!

Even if this is a demo for a never going to be finished hack, should a wiki page still be built?

It's actually derp-speak as AerosolSP suggested, though remarkably and coincidently I was told that "Pana" meant "Friend" while "Gratis" meant "Free", when Pana was only chosen as terrible pun for Panasonic, so yay for coincidental =P

That would be nice, though I wouldn't be fussed if it didn't =)

Oh, I thought you knew that gratis means free, and you did it as a pun at the hacks being sold by the russians for money...

I loved so much this hack that make me interested on work on rom hacking again - too bad I don't have time to it. =/

Everything on this hack is amazing, animation specially. GHZ Ball was a great adition and the difficult is equilibred. I really wish you be able to continue this hack - and sure, your homebrew game Markey the Jester, the video I saw of it was great.

The only weird thing about this hack, specially because a lot of reprogrammed stuff on it is: No Spin Dash. =P Weird and at the same time original, since adding Spin Dash to Sonic 1 is the very first thing many hackers do. =P

"Gratis" really means "Free" in Portuguese, Spanish and maybe in other latin based languages.

Why try to make meaning from the title/subtitles? "Pana Der Hejhog - he iz teh gratis" Looks obvious that it means "Pana the Hedgehog - he is the greatest" in derp speak, even if Pana and gratis mean something in other languages.

This is simply gorgeous. I love it. Those balls were fun to play with. The boss battle was pretty easy when you figured out what to do without getting hit - just takes a really long time.

Oh, it does. Try going behind a foreground tree or waterfall or something - you blend with it. Looks real nice, I'd say.

After Eggman freezes the level, when you run off the high cliff, the very first yellow spring is all garbled up and stays so for up to two seconds while on-screen. This is a recurring bug that reproduces every time I play through.
(excuse the large image, but I prefer making something visible so you can SEE it without having to squint at a 320x224 image):

I know you don't intend to work on this hack anymore, but I just wanted to point this out. Otherwise, I love it and it's really stuff like this that keeps me coming back to Retro. I mean just when I thought hacking died, you did... THIS. So yeah, keep it up Markey. :)

EDIT: I played this on Kega Fusion 3.64 and experienced the bug on it every time.

Heh, I thought this would be one of those joke hacks where everyone would pretend it was "OMG SUPER SPECIAL AWESOME!" even though it was crap. Boy, this crow is delicious, though! I have to echo what everyone else said, this was an awesome hack wrapped up in a joke promotion.

Since this project was probably based on the proof-of-concept 32x version of sonic 1, released sometime ago, is there any possibility of we ever seeing a full sonic 1 release with all the animation goodies Pana der hejhog has? I'd love to see that someday.
