I just clicked both and both links work.

EDIT: are you at school or something? Maybe it's filtering out the site because of "ass" in the URL >_>

No, I made it. It's one of the first things I remember doing that was actually helpful, so it stands out in my mind. :P

If I recall, I'd only made it based on the proposed animation script (might have been one you made) instead of how it actually might have gone (the head gradually tilting more forwards based on how fast you were going). I think Simon might have made some gifs for SWS2B that had each animation on its own without switching between them; those are probably more accurate reference material for how the behavior might have worked.

  4. I don't know if I should make my own thread for this, but here's something I found that's a bit interesting :

There is a texture that is within the second to last part on sonic's lost world level (the part with the scripted loop)
I glitched knuckles in there to allow you guys to get a good look.

Also, when going in Sonic last part with knuckles, then dying, the hue of the sky turns a blue-pink color (There was only a black sky before).

Something I just found -- I am not sure if I am missing something here or not, but I think I might just have somehow found what the wobbly effect from Hang Castle in Sonic Heroes was really supposed to look like.

I am talking about the shit in the background seen here
    [IMG]

From what I can tell, it looks universally like this in all versions. Sure looked like it in the Gamecube version at least. Every screenshot and video on the internet about the stage also seems to indicate it looks like this.

Now, while testing out some Heroes edits, this happened:

The same effect looks much less shitty here, even though I have not yet changed a single thing about Mystic Mansion. Perhaps this is what the effect was truly meant to look like -- certainly looks better than what's actually in the game -- but why my PC portrays it differently, I cannot tell. o.o

I'm fairly sure that the bottom image is how the "effect" looks like in the PS2. It always showed up to me this way to me. Then again, the last time I really played Sonic Heroes was in 2004 on the PS2. I've been eventually playing SH on the PC and 360 every now and then while testing some hackings, but never really sat down to play Hang Castle nor Mystic Mansion throughly. But I must say that I've never seem the effect being portraied as shown in the top image.

I actually thought the top screenshot was the hacked screenshot. It looks absolutely terrible.

I found the three switches from Sonic's lost world "hidden" (only available if you're barely within the drawing distance or if you use the menu, for whatever reason) near the exit of the chase! Also, sorry about the glare in the picture.

  9. This is what I remember seeing in the GameCube version. I recall that the color changed to the required type (blue, orange, red) under certain circumstances.

  10. Wow, just goes to show you how many of you actually played Sonic Heroes.

Both the Gamecube and PC version look like the top one—The same as Seaside Hill's water surface. I can't say I've seen the bottom one at all. Though the whole smoke or water thing applies.

PC version looks like the bottom pic on the desktop computer here (which I assume to be more accurate), and the top pic is what it looks like on this laptop, with its icky integrated graphics.

The hexagon patterns in Grand Metropolis and Power Plant are also borked, compared to the version on my desktop. Seems to be a weird quirk about the graphics processor, and one of the READMEs somewhere even mentions that this is a thing.

As noted by Irixion, the GameCube and PC versions use the same effect as the water; the PS2 version, which lacks the water effect, uses a single texture which rotates around: in the first room, it has two layers, in the second room, three layers, and in all the colored areas, one layer.

Odd, on the old S3 video hardware I used to run Sonic Heroes on, I always got the bottom version... at a shitty framerate, but I did =/ But yeah, I guess it's based on the settings in use.

I ran Heroes with everything on low, and besides being reminded of how bad was Heroes' Rail switching, that area looks the same as the above shot.

Hm. Considering both the GameCube and my old PC had Graphic processing running on ATI technology, maybe it's something ATI-hardware is just incapable of correctly rendering, then.

I ran Heroes with a Geforce 5500, 6200, 8400GS and a HD4670 and always saw the top pic. Strange, I always thought that was the correct way :P

MainMemory already explained what's going on, so, moving on from Sonic Heroes.

Besides Sonic 2, Sonic 3 was probably the platformer that I've played the most during my entire life. There are some things that I used to do in vanilla Sonic 3 when I was a kid that not many people seem to know about. Note that these are Sonic 3 vanilla only.

    • Hidrocity Zone Act 1's Mini Boss is the only Mini Boss battle in Sonic 3 where the game plays the Major Boss Theme instead of the regular Sonic 3 Mini Boss Theme. However, if you stay underwater, and only jump out of it when you are near-death from drowning, the background music will change to Sonic & Knuckles' Mini Boss Theme instead. Strangely enough, this unusual behavior also happens in Hidrocity Zone Act 2's Boss.

    • While on a Special Stage, if you hit a bumper sphere (the white one with red stars), your character will walk backwards. If you hit another bumper sphere with the character's back while walking backwards, the character will walk forward again, but, your character will remain in that same speed so long until you press [IMG] on the directional pad. That means you can complete a Special Stage in the slowest speed possible without it ever rising (even though the Special Stage's background music will rise speed normally). Pressing [IMG] on the directional pad negates the effect, making your character's speed match the current Special Stage's music speed.

I used to do the latter in particular, because it would allow for easier Special Stages and easy Chaos Emeralds!

Are you kidding. That is an excellent little bug there. After you hit the bumper and start walking backwards, if you turn and hit another bumper without walking forward again, does this trick still work? Or do you have to wait until you hit another bumper without turning?

Part of the Hydrocity boss music bug is still present in S3K - if you somehow almost drown yourself in the very shallow water at the Act 2 boss, you'll still get the midboss theme. This appears to be caused by leftover code all the way back from Sonic 1 that plays specific music if you recover from drowning during a boss, rather than using the perfectly good RAM byte that lists the correct track to return to in S3[K], but why it specifically uses $18 is anybody's guess.

I wish I'd known about that special stage bug at the time! Another odd thing about the S3 alone special stages is that your character's shadow layers above the spheres you're walking over rather than below. This is most noticable on corners. In fact, I thought S[3]K looked quite weird to begin with because of that being fixed.

I hadn't known about the speed-fixing trick, either. To be honest, I never had much trouble with S3&K’s special stages; and the few issues I had were usually because I always used to go for a Perfect.

Time to play the devil's advocate and ask if that's surviving into the next version of S3C? :v:
