I really like the logo on this one. Although I'd suggest using a more up-to-date template, the Sega Seal on that one is a super old one from The Cover Project, the Genesis font is an older one too. Here, if you're interested, you can use my templates: Template PSDs

I could probably do it, oddly enough I have a picture of a very fat Sonic. Might give this a whirl when I get some time.

djshok, nice covers! Thanks for making one for my hack and for recommending it over at sega-16.

You're quite welcome. Your hack is one of my absolute favourites.

Also, here's something different for you guys, while not a Sonic Retro hack, it's a fan translation of a Sonic themed game that only came out in Japan on the Sega Meganet. It's basically Columns with Sonic in it, nothing special, but a neat little curio.

Out of curiosity more than anything.. what's with the whole "let's rotate the images and text into FuNkY aNgLeS!!" thing? It wasn't like that on the original boxes for anything other than some third-party games, from what I remember.

I dunno, it looks tacky in my opinion. Straight edges and 90° angles for the win.

    I have a question.

Why does everyone insist on using the modern Sonic design rather than the classic one? It would be way more appropriate using the original for these kind of hacks. I can understand if you all like that specific design but, it really doesn't match the sprites at all. I dunno, it just irks me.

I know that most of the covers in this particular topic use Classic-Cola, but that doesn't include every other custom cover out there. Hell, this branches out to customs for the original games! That Sonic Eraser cover, for example.

Sorry if I came off as rude and off-topic at all, but this was just getting on my nerves. I wouldn't dare put any of those kind of covers near my original ones.

The Cover Project covers, to me... aren't all that great. The templates they use are far from flawless.

    a quick example

I knocked this together with bad scans and Paint.NET extensions without taking into account proper dimensions but I hope it proves a point. Left real, right fake.

the differences are minor but it's enough to make it stand out on a shelf.

    that cover?epic nostalgia rush :O

And what Vitiman and Cinossu said. I'm no fan of the idea anyway, unless the art was made by the hacker(s) themselves.

Look at the cover art I drew for Sonic Megamix:

On a totally related but somewhat unrelated note... A friend of mine's been working on a label for a game repro I plan on having custom made for me:

Very WIP. And yes. I know. Crappy game, but it's a gamefreak game... Kinda' doing it out of homage since it was likely going to get a US release.

Anyway, I'm considering setting us up with a reproduction cart of Megamix. The thing is, it's not boxart. It's a label. (Might be able to do boxes, I dunno though...) The fact of the matter is that I'm definitely going to need a quality cart label. Nothing custom. Nothing "modern." It needs to be as if it were seeing a release IN THE 90s. Dunno if any of you want to try taking a crack at it, but if its good enough, I might start going through the process of setting up some repros for us. (With Tweaker's consent of course)

OK, I should've said made or overseen. All to preclude the inclusion of secret characters, incorrect information, etc., some of which we've seen already in this and other threads.

I was working on art for Sonic Adventure RDX at one point, but I had health problems, the future of the project was uncertain, and trying to make the whole thing in vector slowed my computer to a crawl.

What exactly are you guys using to render your artwork onto SEGA clamshell boxes?

I use a program called Imandix. It allows you to render just about any sort of media storage case in 3D with the cover of your choosing. Perfect for previewing covers.

That's cool, I like that mockup. If you want I can send you the background that I used for my old Megamix covers.

And for the record, I do prefer classic character art, it's just not always available. There is a finite number of hi-res pictures of classic Sonic out there, and trying to get classic style pics of characters that were created in the 2000's is extremely difficult if not impossible.
