Sonic Generations Megathread

Aww yeah.

Watching this shit so hard.

Nothing new. It's just shit about Sonic Boom.

 

Promoted, eh? Good on him.

Otherwise, nothing new there that we haven't heard and, seeing how our tickets ran out really quickly, nothing we won't be hearing about in a few weeks.

Aside: Video Games Live is happening at the same time in nearly the same building as Sonic Boom. Fuck.

 

There's a TIIINY bit extra of classic sonic footage that had been cut from every other video shown so far, unless I'm mistaken.

 

I'm actually really excited about the music. I can't wait to see how they mix the newer stages. I think they'll mix them up to make them sound classic. Like Green Hill Zone in the video, where they clearly use the music samples from the original and add extra stuff. I'm hoping for something like this;

It's funny, it sounds almost like it were meant to sound like that. It didn't dawn on me that they might do that, and now that I'm thinking about it, hearing the modern levels sound like that will be pretty awesome!!

 

Oh man. That sounds absolutely inspired. Brilliant use of the MJ samples.

 

They said there's going to be some musical surprises.
I hope they got Dreams Come True in reference to the original two games.

If not, at least resurrect Michael Jackson for a day since he did Sonic 3...

 

Sonic games rarely disappointment me in soundtrack, so I have high expectations for how they go about the music in Generations. I would say never, but lately some of the musical choices kinda make me want to smack the developers, but to each his own.

I want to ask "Should this ever be Sonic music?" with the following song, but that would bring things off topic, so I'll ask, "Should this ever be music in Sonic Generations?" Listening to this junk is one major reason I'll never be able to enjoy Sonic Rush: http://youtu.be/mbZH2-bnOXg

But again, to each their own. Some people enjoyed it.

 

Sonic Rush's soundtrack is like a wonderful guilty pleasure for me, so I'm gonna say yes.

 

Your loss, it's great. Suits Sonic Rush to a tee being as it is one particular direction of spin-off. Should it be Sonic music? Fuck yes.

Should it be Generations? No. As I mentioned, Rush is a spin-off - and I think Generations' focus should be (and is more than likely going to be) the 'main' series of games.

 

Here's a preview of Sonic Generations from Game Informer's June issue. Nothing new unless the one-button spindash hasn't been confirmed already; it's mostly Tim Turi's impressions.

 

Honestly, a dedicated spin-dash button wouldn't bug me so much.

I'm sure they'll keep the original mapping, though.

 

S'not like the Genesis couldn't have handled that. It had a whole two buttons extra for use in any Sonic the Hedgehog game. Makes you wonder what else they could've had Sonic do that didn't require the jump button.

 

So, how does the spindash work?

'...by simply holding down a button...' So, can we charge them or not?

Ah well, maybe it won't be so bad.

 

I was just thinking, as a throw back to the original games,

what if they added Debug Mode in this? You know, as an easter egg or something. I'm not sure how it would work given the game's 2.5D nature, but something could be worked out.

 

There's two ways to use the spindash- classic style and SA1 style. No problem.

 

I still hope they have three jump buttons, that is, X, B, and A.
Piano jumps have been a big part of speed runs in the 16-bit Sonic games.

Like, when you land on a rock or platform or whatever for just a frame or two, you piano your finger from A, to B, to C to get the most chances to jump out of your landing as possible.
I think this is a very under rated feature...

 

I don't think they'll do that - it's appeasing to far to esoteric a demographic to even matter. I mean, who the fuck speedruns? + - I do. :/  

Also, what kind of sicko ARE you with your A,B,C shit? C,B,A it is for me, man. :P
