Sonic Generations Megathread

Say, I'm all for talking about the teaser trailer and pointing out the details on each aspect. You know what though? I'm actually quite shocked that I do not see much being mentioned or talked about with how incredibly intense the revamped model stage of Green Hill Zone looked in that same teaser. Say what you want, but I found myself more amazed with the minor details put into the partly textured zone. From the Tiki poles and their extremely vague but noticeable expressions to the smallest sun flower, this was special to me. Marza Animation Planet (VE Studios) knows just how to talk to me.

Oh also, Retro Sonic was pretty funky looking in the face too.

 

I think you are all too eager to find something to whine about.

I mean, honestly, SEGA listens to all of your bitching about Sonic having green eyes and likely does this to humor you. And what do they get in return? More bitching. There's really no pleasing any of you.

Personally, I just want back the 5 minutes of my life I wasted trying to wade through 16 pages of endless bellyaching and internet cancer...

I do wish the world was more full, though. White fadey effect is cool and all, but imagine how beautiful it could have looked as a full fledged environment!

 

Now hold on, I personally believe that there is no reason to pin everyone in the same level of bitching when it comes to this. Don't get me wrong, there is an awful a lot of people who can't make heads or tails of this and either bash or praise something like a one minute teaser. I only say this cause you mention 'all' of us are too eager to whine about something. It's fine to point out certain things in the CGI teaser as long as they don't have the mind set of imagining that it'll make or break a game.

 

Erm, I believe "no pleasing any of you" is a bit of an exaggeration don't you think? I'm more then pleased. I'm ecstatic.

Those who are nitpicking over a brow (and being serious about it) on the other hand are just ridiculous.

 

Now, don't get me wrong, I love the 3D Classic Sonic in that trailer. I just wish they would tone down the ass-brow. I could take it or leave it - it's still perfect either way. I am seriously in love with Sega right now for that trailer.

Also, someone said something earlier about how great the environment looked in the trailer and I'd just like to echo that. It does look really good.

Previous ones only made me tremble with fear (well Colours turned kinda good and fun in the end...)
I really looking forward to see the result.

The jump they make together makes looks like something from the intro of Sonic CD. A hint of the plot? (Timetravel?)

Anyway I still find funny stated around the internet, things like
"Make Like Mario 64" yeah because Mario 64 is true to it's roots, right...
"Fight against Dr. Eggman and Dr. Robotnik" I understand what it's meant here, but sounds silly being the same character. (hope that Satam and Aosth Robotnik aren't in these people thoughts)
And the brows complains, we have to really complain about everything I guess XD

Personally, I'm thinking the lack of color in Green Hill Zone there is to represent just how far back they're going. You'll recall that there was a survey last year Sega had some folks take, probing for interest in a Sonic prequel.

The lack of color is meant to represent Sonic's formative years - back before they "filled in all the blanks". Assuming this game will take us through the high points of Sonic's entire franchise history, you could begin the game before the events of Sonic 1 take place.

And even if you don't, the metaphor still holds up.

 

I think the lack of colors is because the Wii game stole from the PS3/360 game (obvious joke is obvious).

I have some guesses about this game, but since it is prohibited by retro. I will stick with me then.

 

Seems to be a bit too deep for Sonic Team, I think. Interesting theory though. :v:

 

I was thinking that, perhaps, the people who are bitching about Classic Sonic are not the same people who used to bitch about modern Sonic.


EDIT: About the lack of color in parts of the background, it's obviously a hint to the plot. How could anybody think they left it blank due to lazyness is beyond me.

 

Precisely. Last I recall, there was something like a 60/40 split in these part with folk who prefer the classic/modern design, respectively. Typical of the fanbase though, when a trailer that really should please both fanbases seems to act as a macro-polarising device.

That said, I think Sega have actually exaggerated the 'cute' aspects of the classic design more than anything. This could be for a reason I'm not about to speculate on; but it's clear that a certain conservative mindset isn't reaction well to it, no matter the reason.

 

Classic Sonic always looked "cuter" in artwork than he did in-game, so that may have something to do with it. I think the "butt-brow" and eyebrow ridges people keep complaining about for no particular reason actually act as a bit of a counterbalance (never mind that Sonic 1's title screen featured these very design elements), letting Sonic keep a bit more "attitude" in his expression at any given time.

Nice theory! So you actually believe that the teaser trailer was mostly metaphorical than actually giving a sneak-peak of the game's possible gimmick? It would be perfectly fine to me if it was ever the case. I prefer more subtle and simple plots than over-complicated complapsing multi-universes and duality. Sonic needs more Mechanical Physics, not Quantum Physics.

I, myself, have quite an interesting theory about the game's possible plot. And I must say that my theory is quite the opposite of what people have been saying so far. Unfortunately, I'm not entitled to say anything.

 

I just wish the game doesn't consist on coloring the background with Sonic's painted feet.

And yes, Classic's appearance was very reminiscent of Sonic CD. I confess my jaw dropped when that happened.

My thoughts before that moment were basically "oh hey, that looks nice". But when old Sonic appeared on screen, I couldn't stop thinking "oh my god, this is so awesome", for the following minutes.

 

I think the lack of color might've just been to look nice and make you focus on the Sonics.

It's just not possible to tell right now. Using a predominately white background like that does seem like exactly the sort of thing they'd do just to make the scene more 'epic' or 'exciting, but it could have a plot element too. Only time will tell for sure, but at least two the two main things about the trailer have got everyone talking.

Just gonna echo those comments about the extra detail in GHZ. The palm leaves are spiked like holly and everything in general just looks very pretty.

 

I happen to think that Classic Sonic looks perfect. Yet I have absolutely no problem whatsoever with people who don't, just like I don't hate anyone who likes the modern model either. People like YOU on the other hand are just fucking toxic!

So I'm going to ask you, what business is it of yours if people don't like it? Nobody could answer that question last year regarding the modern Sonic model in Sonic 4, and I doubt you could answer now. When will people like you understand that it's not for you to decide what's nitpicky or too much complaining?

While I agree we're nowhere near approaching 'BAAWW GREEN EYES' levels of bitching, I think that last bit was a bit uncalled for. Way to bring yourself down to his level.

That said, I'm actually kind of impressed at the level of not-bitching so far. Yeah you have some people who don't like it, but that happens anyway. And like you I have no issue with them, as long as they don't pull the 'wrong opinion' card on me for liking it.

 

See, you made some valid points, and so did Arctides. The parts in bold make you no better than him. If you'd not added the insults, it would have been a pretty mature post. It's always better to enter an argument/debate without throwing around insults.

Anyway, on topic, I shat bricks on seeing classic sonic. I was just simply expecting classic levels, remade. I was content that classic sonic was never going to return, then BAM, nearly knocked off my fucking chair. Sega, after sonic colours, I have complete faith in you for this game.
