Finished Sonic 3 and Knuckles 100%

You can't get 100% on S3&K because you only have 8 save slots. You'd need 12. Or at least 9, if you don't count Sonic alone.

One time I tried to get as many lives as possible in S&K alone (without abusing the game), and I ended up at something like 130 lives by Doomsday zone. The score counter freaked out above 99.

With S3 you can get infinite lives at launch base, just spindash on the alarms and tape down the pad.

 

How do you figure? 0/7/14-emerald saves? I'm pretty sure that the real completionists only count the 14-emerald runs. I consider 4 slots plenty to 100%.

 

I also beat S3&K with Knuckles first because of that damn barrel. I beat S&K alone with Sonic, so I had knowledge of the last two stages.

Finally after looking it up, went back and finished the game. I think that was also the first time I finished with all 7 super emeralds, and I was very surprised to find an extra zone.

I made my friend play it who had only ever played 3D Sonic games. Bastard figured out the barrel in 5 seconds without any help from me, and without ever hearing about it before.

 

The way I have it is since I have the American and JP versions of Sonic 3 as well as Sonic & Knuckles, the JP copy has 4 14 emerald slots and 4 7 emerald slots. The US copy has 4 7 emerald slots and 4 0 emerald slots

 

The way I have it:

Sonic & Tails, 14 emeralds, 99 lives, 14 continues
Sonic, 7 emeralds, 99 lives, 7 continues
Tails, 7 emeralds, 99 lives, 7 continues
Knuckles, 7 emeralds, 99 lives, 7 continues
Sonic, 0 emeralds, 99 lives, 0 continues
Tails, 0 emeralds, 99 lives, 0 continues
Knuckles, 0 emeralds, 99 lives, 0 continues
EMPTY

Essentially what Mercury was talking about earlier; all the "complete" pictures on one cartridge. It also comes in handy when I need to test something that has certain requirements.

Congrats on finally finishing the game, Sonic & Knuckles Collection was the version I originally played too! I personally like that version the best, I'm part of a small group sadly.

 

Man... So I'm not the only one who did this!

 

At one point I had 100% files for Sonic, S&T, Tails, and Knuckles, but my Sonic 3 cartridge likes to lose its save data at random times for no reason. =(

Never had all the pictures though.

 

The same thing happens to me, my Sonic 3 cart will delete my saves, but they are still present when I lock on S&K though. Oh and I'm working on getting every save slot completed too. (I'm surprised I haven't done so yet, I was working on it for a while but then forgot about it until now. :\)

 

You would probably hate Castlevania: Harmony of Despair.

 

Ah, I remember when I first pulled this off. I was a rotten little shit of 10 or so.

And you know what's more fun than 99 lives? Going to Launch Base 1 with 99 lives and watching the life counter fuck up as you exploit the infinite life trick.

 

No, you weren't. I have now something similar on the PC.

My fondest memory wasn't when I finished the game but when I got Doomsday. That was... prettty awesome.

 

Jesus I was 9 years old when I did this back in '95 you're a little late to the party but congrats all the same.

 

I did that as well, same with the file slots on just Sonic 3. Dodging the super rings in the Sonic & Knuckles portion was a little tough the first time around, but I got the hang of it (it was mostly just certain parts of Mushroom Hill). I don't think I can claim that I beat them every time though as I would ALWAYS use debug as a kid. I'm not sure when the first time I legitimately beat S3K was now that I think about it.... Possibly when I had the PC S&K Collection back in the day.

 

I know the feeling mate. I did exactly that 2 weeks ago on a real Megadrive with real cartridges. Great feeling!

 

Welcome to the shiny side. It was a real trip to read "Hyper Sonic" on screen. After 2 years of knowing Super Sonic, wtf is this???? Then Super Tails... yes you have to do it with Tails now; Super Tails was a real treat too.

Every re-release that I have I've completed 100% with every character. Sonic & Tails, Sonic Alone, Tails & Knuckles. So much fun and replay value. ;D
