Problems with Esrael's Sonic 2 Delta II Patch

    Hi, I was wondering if someone could help me with using the Sonic 2 Delta II patch. I have got Gens+ and normal Gens and have tried using the IPS patch on both the .SMD and .BIN format roms.

    On the .SMD format rom I get the title screen appear but if I start a game It locks up at the Emerald Hill Zone : Act 1 Screen. The music continues the play but the title screen doesn't disappear.

    On the .BIN format rom all I get is a Red screen before the rom even loads.

    Does anyone either:

    a) Know which format rom Esrael's patch needs (Note: I'm not inquiring as to where to find it, just what format it should be)

    or b) Know how to fix the errors I'm getting a different way.



    Again, I state that I am NOT asking for roms here, just help to get the patch for them working. I've played the Sonic 2 Delta patch for S2 Beta but I want to see what Esrael has done to the Final version (As it's more up to date).

    Aditional Note: I was also going to ask about the reason for Wing Fortress and Sky Chases music being in the beta but that's already been asked and the only reason seems to be that they had just started on the idea of those levels.

    You do this:

    Patch the BIN file, not SMD.

    Go to the menu Option->Misc, and select "Auto Fix Checksum". That will make the red screen go away

    Still won't pass the Act Intro. Exactly the same as the .SMD format one.

    I'd have asked at Esrael's site but his forums are dead and it might have been a little difficult getting help at a portugese site when I only speak English.

    .SMD files are worthless. So get rid of them, and stick to .Bin.

    If what LOst told you is still not working, get a new Sonic 2 ROM. Yours could have been tampered with, excluding the IPS patching.

    Download a new Sonic 2 ROM (Are you sure that you're supposed to patch to the Final Sonic 2? Should you be patching to the Beta?) and use LOst's instructions.

    Failing that, the IPS patch has a bug, but that's just my guess.

    Sonic 2 Delta II is for the final. Just getting a new rom should fix the problem. Try playing the rom without the patch. My guess is that it will probably lock up. If it doesn't, I'm suprised. It may be another hack which is the only explanation I can come up with if it doesn't lock up normally.

    I completed both versions now normally, no lock ups, will try a new Sonic 2 rom.

    Yes it is the Final version you patch Sonic 2 Delta II to.

    Thanks for the help though, much appreciated.
