I cue PolygonJim replying about this matter in 3, 2... [/QUOTE] That guy totally knows what he's talking about I swear.
Admittedly, he was a developer of Sonic 4 (I forget what he said he worked on in the game), and was only filling in for the actual Sonic Colors PR. So if he was wrong about anything, can't really blame the guy. As I mentioned in another topic, he also doesn't normally work on Sonic games at all. Usually other Sega games. I will at least say he -seemed- knowledgeable to me, but hey, I'm not exactly the most knowledgeable about tech details of Sonic games. Was the Rush engine really called Zero Gravity, in the first place? Anyways, I'm honestly more excited for Colors than 4, so I'm on the Colors boat. I just preordered the game today. Honestly, I hate the hat bonus, but the same PR responded to my comment about it being stupid by saying that in America, not enough people preorder Sonic games to get a good budget for good preorder bonuses. However, I may wear the hat to look silly on occasion, but never in public.
Not sure how many of you here have seen this, but I thought I'd share this anyway. Sonic Colors multiplayer/co-op/2 player gameplay footage: Those red things on top of their heads really remind me of the Tails Doll, heh.
Wow. Great remixes of the soundtrack, and the way the Wisp powers look when used simultaneously...wow. I'm stunned. This game is looking better and better as we go on. I'm buying this, definitely. I admit though, the whole "Drill!" "Spikes!" "Laser!" thing is getting a tad bit annoying.
I get that they're trying to make a great Sonic game, but coloring Mario blue, giving him spines, and sound breaking speeds is just not the way to do it. I'm all for a Sonic game with power-ups. "Sonic-related" ones though. Like "The Light-speed Shoes", or "The Ancient Light". A drill power-up, a laser power-up, so what if they only last for a bit, come-on!? It was bad enough that Unleashed turned him into whatever the hell a Wherehog is, but seriously, inanimate objects and beams of light!? They say that the stages in this game play like the day version in Sonic Unleashed, that's awesome. Which means I wanna run through the stages at the speed of sound, not fly through them with my laser power-up at the speed of light. Not dig my way through them with a drill hat. It looks graphically pleasing, and even fun, but it just doesn't "seem" like a Sonic game. Even the severely rushed SONIC THE HEDGEHOG back in '06 felt like a true Sonic game, save for the fact that he was slow.
They're pretty much pimped out Element Shields from Sonic 3K. Optional but can contribute to game play. Why a fuss?
Honestly I don't see the problem here either. In fact I say it's a much needed improvement, especially seeing how much those shields added to Sonic 3 overall
I never really understood how this is a ripoff of Galaxy. Did Mario invent power-ups? Did Mario invent outer-space? Sure, Mario has drilled through the ground before but he also turned into a pinball once. Did anyone complain about that? Colours looks like a solid game to me.
When I first saw this game announced on Sega's website. I was just staring at the screan saying... "What... the... ... HECK!?" But as time went on, I looked into the game a little more as more info came out and, well, it shows promise. I know a lot of people have been saying that since 2006, but now, they've got new people. They've got professionals. They've got new actors. They're no Ryan Drummond, but this new "Roger Craig Smith" is a lot better than Jason Griffeth, who I felt made Sonic sound old, slow, boring, fast and kind of evil, not to mention, downright soulless. I've heard the works of Roger Craig Smith and Kate Higgens (Tails), and they're actually quite good. Really good, in fact. My only fear is that I just don't think they can pull of these voices. Sure, they can certainly act like their characters, but I'm just not sure they can sound like their characters. So, I've seen gameplay, I've listened to some music and I've looked at the facts about it's production. It does in fact seem quite similar to Sonic Unleashed's day stages. Except this time, they aren't liniar and you actually do play as Sonic, rather than simply guiding him by moving the control stick left and right every so often and, if you're lucky, hit the jump to button to jump... and attack. I don't plan on getting this on it's debeut, but I may get it sometime. I'll wait and see how it turns out, I'll look at the opening cutscene and the first zone and read a few reviews for it and, if all goes well, I'll see about buying it. Edit: Oh, yeah. I'm also really sick and tired of people calling it a "Super Mario Galaxy Ripoff". It has nothing whatsoever to do with Super Mario Galaxy. It's just in space, is all. Nintendo didn't invent space. Why do so many people think Sega is ripping off of Nintendo? We got so many people acusing Sonic Unleashed and Sonic and the Black Knight of being ripoffs of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess just because Sonic turns into a wolfish-thing and then gets a sword. It's not original, lemmie tell you. It's been done for decades. No, CENTURIES! Then, people called Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing a ripoff of Mario Kart. Why? Just because it's kart racing? Why didn't anyone accuse Sonic Drift of this? Why didn't anyone accuse any of the Crash Bandicoot kart racing games as ripoffs of Mario Kart? Nintendo did not invent Space, werewolves, swords or kart racing. So many people keep saying "It's a complete ripoff of Super Mario Galaxy! I mean, since when has Sonic ever been in space?" Well, let's do a recap. > Sonic the Hedgehog 2 > Sonic & Knuckles > Sonic Championship/Sonic the Fighters > Sonic Adventure 2/Sonic Adventure 2: Battle > Sonic Advance > Sonic Advance 2 > Sonic Battle > Sonic Advance 3 > Shadow the Hedgehog > Super Smash Bros. Brawl > Sonic Unleashed/Sonic World Adventure (Opening Cutscene) > Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing And now... Sonic Colors! So, wow. That's at least a dozen Sonic games in which Sonic goes into space so far. 9 of which came out at least two years before the first Super Mario Galaxy. That's a whole lot more than Mario. There could be more, but that's all I can think of at the top of my head. So, anyway, stop accusing various Sonic games to be ripoffs of other works that are hardly related and aren't even original to begin with. Especially if they were released AFTER the said Sonic game came out.
Speaking of the multiplayer, am I the only one finding the crosshairs REALLY annoying? They take up like half the screen for a second and they're constantly popping up, with that little annoying noise too.
I completely agree with you. I hate those things. They're really dumbing everything down for us, aren't they? We didn't need them in Sonic 3-D Blast (or Sonic Adventure if you don't want to be that specific) and we don't need them now.
Actually, if anything I'm grateful for them being there if for no other reason that it's a sign of assurance that I'm not about to just aimlessly homing attack into thin air and die from a fall or something.
So, you're saying that you still need Training Wheels. Not to be rude or anything but that's a terrible reason to "need" that thing. Real Sonic gamers don't need everything pointed out for them. It's bad enough for that to happen every time you're in the air and there's an enemy within range, but for items and springboards, too? That crosshair is basicly Training Wheels and we are all much better off without it.
I'm not mad about the actual idea of crosshairs, they were fine in Unleashed HD. But now they want them to be a GIANT thing around enemies, it's so distracting and annoying. I don't even mind them in single player that much, it's just... watching that multiplayer video, you just hear the noise OVER and OVER, and before the crosshair is there completely, it literally takes up half the screen. So the two players are constantly locking onto stuff, and these giant freaking crosshairs keep appearing on the screen with an annoying *ding!* noise. Edit: Look 46 seconds into this video.
In multiplayer this makes sense, they are also transparent, and big enough for you to know who is homing attacking which. In single player from what I have seen they are not nearly as in your face, but in co-op this is actually good.
The game's too fast-paced for me to really trust myself to always be able to accurately judge what I'm going to hit. The visual aid does help with more hectic timing moments. In general, though, lock-on indicators do annoy me. I really wish their were an option to turn them off.
