I would much rather have SEGA stop making Sonic games for awhile, but that's never going to happen.

Classic physics are fucking dead, they're never coming back. Sonic 4 was their chance to bring it back and do it right and they managed to fuck that chore right up.

Its possible that they just don't realize how well games with those physics would sell. Yeah, Sonic 4 was the perfect chance to do this (that they screwed up, as it appears right now), but that doesn't mean that they never will in the future. Though there's nothing to suggest that they ever will either, so who knows.

And yes, taking a few years off wouldn't hurt either.

Not in three years it hasn't.

Speaking of Pocket Adventure, someone observed that Sonic 4 is rather analogous to that game during Sazpaimon's live stream of the leaked Sonic 4 last night, in that they were both developed by Dimps and are a blatant pastiche of stages and elements (and combinations thereof) from previous Sonic games. It was quite a revelation for me. That alone made the game seem so much more appealing, especially in comparison to the original SPA, which was shitty. Anyone who enjoyed SPA is going to love this game, simple as.

    Are you serious?

Edit: Because SPA was fun. Sonic moved the way you would expect, the levels had great layout, badniks were placed with care, it felt right at home next to S1-3K.

If that's what S4 was, then I would love it just as much, but it's not even close.

Sonic Pocket Adventure has its low points, but I still think it's pretty good. That game's second boss looks simple, but it is actually one of the best in the franchise if you ask me.

I loved how they used the best multiplayer themes in the series for the last Zone.

Chrome Gadget is one of the best Sonic songs ever.

I was under the impression that SPA was a Sonic 2 remake. Time to dig up an emulator?

It looks like a Sonic 2 remake on the surface. But it just uses some S2 environments.

lol @ that second video. I see an explosion that you can stand on, and I see a single ring being lost and bouncing to the right.

I never played SPA before. Wow, totally gives off that Game Gear vibe. Although I don't really care for Desert Palace as much as I do for the others.

No, it actually uses the layouts from S2, except they replaced the single loops with double loops and slightly changed a few things to be able to connect the double loops to the layout. Go look at any level maps, oh and also added a few bottomless pits in the place of platforming. Overall it's still a fun game, but it's more of a rehash than Sonic 4.

Took a while to find a video to answer that with.

    Enter madness... D:

I really hope they fix this.

In general, when I played it at SoS I found that rolling, as a rule, slowed you down rather than sped you up, downward hills or no.

    Feels bad man. :(

Hah, wow, you can see the look on that dude's face at the end of the video like "Wow that was bad.".

Eeeech, that rolling. Looks like a slightly upgraded Rush-rolling. Which isn't very good. :/

  14. Its the friction. They over-programmed the goddamned friction it seems.
WHY is the friction stonger than the goddamn gravity!!

I don't really understand, how can they possibly think this plays like the classics when here you nearly come to a dead stop when rolling down a steep hill? I just don't get it, Dimps' Advance titles had MUCH better physics than this, why couldn't they do that? Pressed for time? I mean, that would be my guess, unless it's an entirely different team now.

Dear God. You'd think they'd at least get rolling right.

In fact, that was the first thing Naka programmed in, even before the idea for "Sonic" existed...

    :flunked:

  18. Naka's gone, and he ain't NEVER coming back.
Now, I'm one of the pro-Sonic 4 people, and I think its OK as is, but if this wants to be a future classic (as in, a game that everyone looks back on and becomes nostalgic in a good way), then Dimps better haul ass and get their shit straight. In fact, I don't think it would be too harmful, if they just asked for some advice from Naka, without him directly being involved.

Meh, I'll still get it for one reason only. Super Sonic as a usable power-up again. Finally, now I have a damn good reason to get those emeralds again.

Naka's active, just not with Sonic... Shame when you begin to hate your own creation, eh? It's like Dr. Frankenstein made his creation into a prick that stole all of his money.
