It's the same style (waltz, music box), but it's hardly a remix. They're totally different songs.

It is in a way. Senoue kept a channel or two from Sonic 1 and reworked it. That's all I have to say on this matter. I forgot to add a mention about the special stage track in the original post, so I edited it with one. :)

I just listened to them side by side. Yeah, I guess they do have the same chord progression also. "Remix" suggests to me that the melody would remain intact, but I guess there's no better word to use.

I guess I should say something on topic while I'm here. For the record, I'm happy about the delay. I doubt it will be much improved by the time it comes out, but I would be surprised if it wasn't improved at all.

As for the iPhone extra levels, I would have to believe that they'll be Acts, not Zones. Since a bunch of the Act 2's are gimmicky, some gimmicks might not translate so well from system to system, and so those Acts would be slightly different. They of course jump on this as an excuse to say "exclusive levels!" and feed the hype machine. I seriously doubt they would draw new Zones and break the whole "4" theme.

  4. I agree. Dr. Robotnik is more of a throwback to us 20 somethings since its a name that was constantly used in American advertising via comics, cartoons, games, merchandise, and TV commericals during the 90s. Plus the name Dr Robotnik hasn't been openly used by Sega in over a decade so in a sense, it would be a nice nostalgic nod to call him Dr. Robotnik again in a game that follows the Genesis series of Sonic games.

  5. No. They said "feedback", not "reception".

And obviously, I'm glad with this news.

    This AGAIN?!?!?

Look, there is no voice acting, no text to read in cutscenes, or anything like that. You can still call him Dr. Robotnik. Hell, I know I will.

Notice how much difference there is between the Japanese classic ROMs and the European/American? That's right, almost zilch. And yet, J call him Eggman, whereas E/A call him Robotnik. How does this work? Simple; the name isn't even mentioned in-game (bar WFZ), so it doesn't matter. It's the same case here.

Some of the title cards before each act :ssh:

But aside from that, it's the same deal with years ago. Call him whatever the fuck you want. It's like a name will really change the sudden quality of the game.

Fixed that for you. The ROMs are exactly the same, with the exception of Sonic 3. (The only difference in the S3 ROMs is the country code setting in the ROM header.)

I don't even remember a single instance in which he's called "Robotnik" in the S1/2/3/K ROM images. I do remember that Wing Fortress Zone has "EGGMAN" prominently labeled on the ship in various places.

EDIT: Obvious exception of S1 rev01, which was only released in Japan, but there were no string changes in S1 rev01 aside from the reordering of the level select.

Hm, so Ruby directly addressed the physics and floaty jump, that's good. However, he was talking about how important momentum was a LONG time ago, months before the delay, so I can only be cautiously optimistic at best.

  12. That is a good position to be in.
This game is not the greatest thing to happen to humanity, nor is it the single most shitty game ever made in existence.

I knew from the start that game was never going to be bad. Based on Rush/Advance or not, it would have still be better than a lot of the questionable 3D titles to be released thus far.

It has so far exceeded my expectation and lets hope it follows through.

    Still.
A 2D Sonic Platformer is only a limited market. If SEGA really want to make "Teh Monies", then they have to use the exact same principle of holding back a title till is finished, and stick it to a 3D game. THEN Sega will make a fuckload of cash, because not only will the Kiddies buy it, but so will the people who lost interest after the games went stale.

    But thats for another day.

So apparently Sonic 4 was delayed to the second half of 2010.

I think it's the first time in history that a Sonic game was delayed, which is quite an achievement for SEGA, geko!

    Wow, good spot!

These have also been said countless times in the last few pages. (Also, since it's in almost all your posts, what is "geko"? At least I knew what "heaps" meant.)

Sonic Xtreme had seen numerous delays before its cancellation.

I guess I am one of the few people that generally likes what I've seen from the leaks - but there are two things I really wanna see:

zone transitions and scripted cut scenes

but mostly zone transitions. it completely added a natural element to S3+K to reduce how aware Sonic was of "us." It feels right because in real life there are no title cards, and we don't just appear to the left of the camera every time we accomplish some difficult goal.

Zone transitions would be a nice thing of them to do if they still have time after refining the physics and possibly the music. If they could, it would be neat for the game to show how Sonic gets into the next Zone 3&K style.

As long as there was an option to disable them, cut scenes would be alright. I honestly don't like having to watch Sonic on an airplane, Sonic on a snowboard (even though the free forty rings are nice), Knuckles pushing switches several times, Knuckles getting zapped by Eggman, Knuckles taking way too long to break a wall, and having to wait almost half a minute for Knuckles to open up a bridge that I could have just jumped across with no trouble every time I play as Sonic in 3&K. The option to disable cut scenes would give more control to the players who play the game.

On my butt in front of the computer. Where else?
I'm working on working up the willpower to work on learning how to make my own Sonic fangames. Not quite there yet.
No, no, I'm referring to a specific statement, which uses the phrase "overwhelmingly positive response" (actually they didn't use "reception," but "response" is just as vague... I wonder why my brain remembers this as a fancier word? Bah...) and which many people seem to have seen as a confirmation of "Well, I guess they haven't been listening to us, then!"

I know they were talking about feedback in regards to the fan input they're listening to, I was just clarifying their marketingspeak on that other point.

  20. Makes sense to me.
