That's the same technique that can be used in the 8 bit version of Sonic 2. If you roll onto springs or roll jump onto springs. You can travel faster than a normal jump would do on springs. I found out about this speed roll when I kept on dying on Green Hills Zone act 3 with those bloody death spikes. Also. If you roll in water in Aqua Lake Zone, then jump to the surface, you will bounce across it without the need to roll from the ground outside the water.

This roll is also amazing for cutting corners in normal zones where normal jumps just wouldn't have the reach to do some jumps. Give it a shot with the 8 bit rom. It changes the game entirely.

Great start with the hack so far. The Sonic sprites look great.

Glad this is still WIP. I thought it was on the same place of the Hybridization Project =P.

I know that the party is over and everything, but, could I ask you to finish this level? Just to see how it will play out. I really liked it, and I find it a really interesting concept for upcoming projects, if you know what I mean...

Also, congrats for the brilliant idea!

  6. I gotta second endri here on this one. It'd be fun to have a complete world 1-1 in the Sonic 2 GG engine.

    Albeit completely stupid.

    And awesome.

I'm still working on the physics. I haven't had the time to really dig into it yet. Unfortunately, other things must take priority :(. I know this is a bit of a "nothing" post, but I thought I'd let you guys know that I'm still around.

Any info on this, is it on hiatus, or dead?

  9. I miss this... I really enjoyed making some sprites for this project!

It's most definitely not dead (as far as coding is concerned). I started work on rewriting Aspect Edit in C but I haven't had time to finish anything yet. You guys have put some top quality work into those sprites and I don't want that to go to waste.

I've entered the first beta into the contest at the last minute. It really needed some more work but I didn't have time.

I suppose I should give a little update. I haven't done much in a long time, but after meeting with Shadow Fire at the Retro Oz meet, my interest in this project has been rekindled. I investigated the quarter circle ramp glitch and have come to the conclusion that no matter how much I play with the collision, having the ramp split across two metatiles is always going to cause the glitch. I tried creating the ramp within one metatile, but it just doesn't work within the current engine. I'm going to replace them with 45 degree angle slopes, and it doesn't look too bad and it avoids the glitch.

Next I need to get the loops working, and Glitch has pointed me in the right direction, but it's going to take me some experimentation to get them to work. Once I do that, I'm going to move on to Act 2. I'm really itching to move on the CPZ, but I can't leave EHZ in such an unfinished state.

Somehow, Glitch and I need to work out how to get our two sides of the project to work together. I'm not very keen on moving to assembly, even though I can see the benefits of moving out of my comfort zone, and Glitch isn't too keen on disassembling my ad-hoc hack and slash methods of hex editing. I guess I should stop being lazy, but I just haven't had time to get my arse into gear.

I used to be able to work on this project in my spare time at my old job, but my new job doesn't allow external drives or software being used on their secure systems, and my access to the home laptop is somewhat limited, so it's going to be painfully slow going. Sorry to anyone dying to get their hands on it - it might be a while.

Yes, he said it would be a while, but I just wanted to make sure that it hadn't died completely.
