I'm working on working up the willpower to work on learning how to make my own Sonic fangames. Not quite there yet.
No, there's definitely more platforming in the Day Stages of the 360 version than the Day Stages of the Wii version. If you're referring to the Werehog stages, though, you'd probably be right.

Still, who the hell cares about that?

Disregard everything I said before, I suck cock. /Letting the storm calm.

Although, I like drifting better in the Wii version, that I will stand by.

The Wii version's drift is easier to control, but on the other hand, I really like the drift in the 360 version. It's one of the most stunning examples of how momentum physics can play in a 3D environment, and it's quite rewarding to master controlling the drift, especially when you master when/how to boost-drift through turns.

Like in the beginning of Savannah Citadel Act 1. Boost, Drift, Boost, Drift, Drift, GO!

And let's not forget everybody's favourite level, Savannah Citadel Act 2!

Thing is, failing to drift properly actually doesn't lead to death a lot of the time. There's that bend in Skyscraper Scamper that'll catch you out because you can't (I think) boost around it, but otherwise I think you're normally safe. Jungle Joyride and Dragon Road only really require drifting on open water and other times you'll be protected by barriers.

I thought that applied to both versions.

The other version has enemies to run into and dash-pads to stop the paths being straight.

So what you're sayin' is, the game is garbage.

Well, now this topic which I shamefully revived can finally die! :specialed:

The drift was atrocious and whoever thought of Savannah Citadel Act 2 Daytime needs to be shot. It's the only act I have not been able to complete yet. If it was truely momentum based, Sonic would slowly lose his boost assisted speed gradually, rather than instantly, instead letting you go around those corners pretending you are playing a fanmade Mario Kart.

I adore the daytime gameplay in Unleashed on the 360. It feels like a Sonic game, Rush to precise, yet it has it's own flare that can't be placed.

I mean, boosting and drifting at the same time.

    Because you can do that.

You're talking about a flaw with the boost as if it's a flaw with the drift? Really? Way to misplace a complaint there.

Sonic has a maximum unassisted running speed and reverts to that when not boosting—rather like how Sonic in Sonic 1 had a maximum running speed that could only be exceeded by rolling. If he didn't, then HOLDING the Boost button would not be necessary, you could merely tap it and get a nice, cheap, long burst of speed.

Other than that limit, momentum works fine in the game with exception to the jump. The drift deals in momentum, which is why people call it "slippery." Of course it's slippery. It's a fucking drift. Drift involves sliding.

As for Savannah Citadel Act 2, fuck it. That stage was horrible. I guess I understand the idea of having a stage that requires you to have mastered the drift down to the letter, but seriously, there's got to be a better way to go about it than instant-death pits.

(Incidentally, you can *complete* the stage without drifting, it's the S-Rank you need to drift for. Which makes the medals and extras in that stage easy pickings.)

I was just rereading this thread a bit from the start. I have to say the transaction of how things worked out is hilarious now.

Also it DOES NOT feel like Sonic Unleashed was announced two years ago this week...

Drift. I just don't want to feel like I'm driving a car when I'm playing Sonic.

That's not a problem with the game, though, so it doesn't matter.

And it doesn't feel very car-like, anyway. I think it just emphasizes the speed.

  17. I got the game recently, and I was trying to do this stage yesterday. You, my friend, may have saved my sanity. :)

Oh I'm sorry I should have waited for you to tell me how to feel.

The levels feel like tracks and Sonic drives like a car. =P

    No, seriously, it's a personal-preference issue, it doesn't matter. That's all I'm saying.

Ok, you missed the point. I said 'momentum based' (a continuous gripe I have with new Sonic games) . You boost and lose the speed the second you let go of X (Which shouldn't happen. If your running fast, it takes longer to stop). Why is that a pain? Because if you want to get around SC2 without drifting (which feels ridiculously awkward as it is) you have to boost like fuck, and instict would normally have you compensate for the fact you are moving at very high speed. Instead, you drift when it would normally be appropriate and you end up either failing the act or dieing because the speed shift is abrupt and jarring.

Either way, the act is a common hate among the people that played the game, so it is clearly a huge error Sonic Team made by making it.
