Dunno why, but I do like it without the yellow a bit.

(and your hoax in the second image has a broken tile :v: )

Last one you put up looks fine.

Others have echoed this before, but please let's not see a great project like this turn into granny mode like Sonic 2 HD where every single detail that no one would even be paying attention to let alone stare at intentively for hours on end ends up stalling the project from getting anywhere :v:

That second one is defiantly a big improvement, looks more accurate too with the in-and-out depth.

    I'd have to agree.

This one does look the best.

Getting closer, but I don't think the squares are twisting properly around the corner (being really picky I know)

I've finished the prelim layout for EHZ1. I just need to go through and fix some broken tiles. Soon I'll be moving on to the backgrounds.

Does someone want to have a crack at 8-bit sizing the clouds from the EHZ background?

I wish I had the nerve (and time) to attempt it, but I know someone could handle much better than I >>

Did you want it like this:
With the clouds BlackHole drew still there?

    Or this?

Anyone can feel free to tamper with theses clouds, I couldn't get the reflection right.

doc eggfan can you place badniks anywhere?
If you can find out how to stop it disapearing the "Meleon" badniks can be made into those coconut throwning Monkeys.

That looks perfect to me. Yeah, that's what I was after. I thought the gradient would be easier, but stand alone clouds are going to work in better. I just hope I don't run out of VRAM.

I haven't done anything about object/badnik placement yet. I don't think it will be too hard in theory. Not sure how to change the badnik behaviour though. You'd also need to curve the coconuts down too, rather than straight across.

The shading near top and bottom curves looks a bit too hard/dark.

And since I don't have anything else to work with, I'll just edit emrabt's image.

I'll put in the tile version later.

I've managed to get a fair bit of background in without too much drama. Only having one plane makes things difficult. I'm a bit stumped on how to best do this bit near the end of Act 1 though.

    1. background obscured by wall
    [IMG]

    2. the zero effort option
    [IMG]

    3. leave out mountains
    [IMG]

    4. leave out trees
    [IMG]

I'm happy enough with option 1, what do you guys think?

Leave out trees. For consistency, if anything.

I'm ok with option 1! Option 4 isn't too bad either though...

I would be really interested to see how it all looks in motion.

Option 4, because of the limitation and how "out of place" the tiles are in Option 1.

Presides, you could just as easily just put rings there instead of trees to make up for it.

Option 1 looks no less lazy than option 2 because the tiles are there fairly randomly. Stick with option 4.

I also vote for option 4. I don't know if you're still using them, but maybe try putting some foreground bushes there instead of the trees?

I must say it looks fantastic, is the waterfall animated?

GARY M 9887: that looks pretty good, but the shading needs to come down another set of squares.

Hmmm, I wanna say 1 because I love those trees so much, but the tiles look so out of place

I have a suggestion for the trees. Why not try to make it an object instead of tiles? If not, just go with option 4.

Well... time to go into the world of PA! :(
