I personally thought that that was one of the better theme songs from Sonic Adventure onwards.

  4. Well, I can't argue with you about that, it's your personal opinion after all. I guess I'm more of a rock/hard rock/metal/orchestra kind of guy ...

And also what I find annoying is the last level from Chronicles' (Which I don't remember the name) music. I was totally nerdraggin at that.

IMO any genre is OK as long as it fits the stage and especially the mood. For instance, swapping Sonic 06's soundtrack and Unleashed's will create a ridiculous effect without doubt.

On the other hand, sometimes I do think that quite some rock tracks in SA2 are too random and don't fit with the stages (mostly Tails ones and one or two Sonic ones).

I'm mostly into metal myself, but I still liked that one.

I think this version might actually be used in the final game, in one of the two-player stages. I don't have my copy on me, but I think the stage was called "Downtown Race" and it was a boarding level. (For what it's worth, I have the Gamecube version.)

I actually like the Trial version of the song much better. It had a much better melody to it. =)

I dunno about you all, but I think the award for the most god awful music in a Sonic Game belongs to Hidden Palace Zone in Sonic 2. And by Sonic 2, I mean the real one, and not the beta. I praise the lord every time I play that game, that the level cannot be played in the regular way, so that I don't have to hear that crappy music for more than a minute.

That song should be classified as a Torture Technique. In fact, I bet that they used that music to get Terrorists to talk in Guantanamo Bay.

However, I'd like to note, that the Sonic and Knuckles version of Hidden Palace Zone, had AWESOME music, and is one of my favorite songs in the Sonic Series.

I've heard some of these on OC-Remix. This is infinitely better than the original. Of course, I'm still not fond of it, unlike the Hidden Palace music from Sonic & Knuckles.

  13. I thought S3&K Super Forms music was annoying.

Sonic 3's was ATROCIOUS. I actually kinda liked S&K's. I used to like Sonic 2's until I realized it was a bit lame.

Well, you can't disagree here: The worst made sonic songs in history are from Sonic Chronicles.

Yeah, I'm far from liking all the Sonic songs (Jeh Jeh Rocket has a piece similar to children yelling, eww) but meh, even the Sonic Jam for the Game.com, that shit seemed to have only one sound channel, so even if it was put effort there, it wouldn't sound very different as all the sound effects cut the bgm.
That Sonic Chronicleshit, it's soundbank sounds as a bad cellphone playback, it's songs have fucking silent parts in it and most of the notes simply don't sound harmonic with the others. SHIT, what did they do to my beloved Quartz Quadrant? Until 0:14 in that video, it was a bad song, after, it is only clipping, echoes and chaos.
They simply transposed that track by 3 (the track that seems to be a Choir Ahh),changed the drums to some random noises (a cow farting is better, really (except for the smell, whatever) ) and what were they thinking when they put that echoed square wave there? The Sonic Chronicles Oficial Noisetrack in fact thraumatized me. =/

The few remixes on Sonic Gems collection were so halfassed....I mean when I first heard that Sonic Boom DnB crap it reminded me of some Newgrounds Audio newbie stuff. For some reason I don't like Militant Missionary off sonic adventure anymore. The shitty MIDI I stumbled on of it might have ruined that though.

    I never liked that song

  18. I really have no dislikes when it comes to retro music, although the Super themes do get annoying, so I tend not to use them.

also for you guys that do not like the "They Call Me Sonic" song, here is a lower pitch one that I think sounds MUCH better.

From every Sonic game I own:

Sonic 1 - Special Stage: Really, just a theme that makes my ears cry (on the contrary, Hidden Palace's theme in Sonic 2 (which is often regarded as a remix to this theme) is somewhat catchy in my opinion.)

Sonic 2 - Death Egg: Same as Sonic 1; really irritating. Options/Level Select: Really work MUCH better for the credits as they are originally.

Sonic 3/S3+ - Main Theme, Invincible/Super transformation, Game Clear, 1-UP, Mini-Boss, Knuckles' theme: No MJ-imposed bias here (as I still like the Credits theme), I've just naturally preferred the Sonic&K versions of the music. Knuckles'/Mini-boss theme gets repetitive very easily.
Only hit the S-Monitor if you just hate your ears.
Flying Battery 1: In Sonic 3 and its S3+ prototypes, (includes S&K 0525) listen carefully to sound $09 (which is FB1). You can hear part of the theme go off-sync. Just something that really bugs me.

    Sonic & Knuckles/S3K - ???

Sonic & Knuckles (PC Edition) - Launch Base (in actuality, it's not that bad, but it certainly does NOT fit the stage), Knuckles' theme (Sonic 3)

Sonic Adventure - Mystic Ruin: Nothing really wrong with it, but it's one of those songs I just don't like.

    Sonic Adventure 2 - ???

    Sonic Advance 1-3 - ???

Sonic Heroes - Team Sonic's Theme, Team Rose's Theme: I don't feel the need to explain these 2.

    Sonic Riders - ???

SONIC THE HEDGEHOG - End of the World: Not bad, but it sends shivers down my spine... Solaris Phase 1: Really pales in comparison to the other themes in the game.

Sonic Riders II - Botanical Kingdom, Part 1: Really repetitive.

Smash Bros. Brawl - Dunno if it counts, but I'd have to say Super Sonic Racing from Sonic R.

Sonic Unleashed - Dark Gaia, Phase 1: Like Solaris Phase 1, pales in comparison to the others.

Other Media - Sonic Electronic (arcade)

In General - I don't like most of the vocal music, "We Can" and "Follow Me" (Team Sonic/Rose's themes) I felt necessary to mention because I really despise those two. I've listened to a few of Sonic Rush/Adventure's tracks, and I HATE the idea of vocal tracks as BGM.

The super themes from Sonic 2 and Sonic & Knuckles are not bad if you listen to them once or twice through, but they get repetitive after your, I dunno, 15th time listening through the whole theme. Sonic 3's main theme really works better as a victory fanfare in my opinion.
And on a somewhat off-topic note, I just figured out Sonic 2's Super transformation theme was a remix of the main theme. Stupid, I know, but hey, we all feel like that sometimes :).

I actually thought Follow Me was okay, at least on an intellectual level. The lyrics were able to stand on their own while fitting Amy's character, and the music was a recapitulation of the first stage's music.

The actual arrangement wasn't that great, though; I can agree on that.
