    Not even the original game was well received in Japan because the SuperFamicom was pretty much holding as much market as the Famicom had beforehand. Sega only got success with their franchises in Japan when they made the Saturn as that became the leader there (yes, Japan is the exact opposite of the USA when it comes to games).

    From Adventure onwards, Sonic became WAAAAAYY too Japan friendly.

    Classic Sonic though had global appeal.

    Wonder why they're releasing this on 2010 rather than 2011? What about Sonic's 20th anniversary? (Guess they're saving that for a 3D game.)

    OMG, I can't believe Sega are actually doing this - I've been wanting something like this for YEARS but I never thought it'd really happen!

    I just hope they really do keep this in the style of the classic games (as the trailer seemingly implies) by not placing too much emphasis on stuff like insanely high speed insofar as simply running as fast as possible - fast platforming is fine, but not just running fast, especially like in Sonic Rush with the boosting. Being the retro geek that I am, I also really really hope that Sonic appears in his original design here - I know the silhouette in the trailer suggests this much, but you never know with Sega... And for God's sake, crap like Shadow had better not be in this; Sonic and Robotnik are all that's necessary IMO (plus Tails and/or Knuckles at a push).

    I don't think that concept art looks too bad. To be honest, I kinda prefer that surreal look over the realism of, say, Unleashed; as good as Unleashed was, I just think surreal landscapes suit Sonic a lot more than realism does. As others have most likely mentioned (I've skimmed through this topic but I'm losing track of what I've read now), who's to say that the concept art is even real? And if it is, how do we know that the final game will look ANYTHING like that?

    Whatever the case though, the announcement of this game is great news and I seriously can't wait for more information to be released! :D

    If by global you mean West. Sonic Jam, Sonic R, and Sonic Adventure, which means, Project Sonic, started in 1997 to try and force Sonic to have sucess in Japan.

    I must throw this out there. If they are going classic style, including character design, please do not use American Sonic. I don't want to see assfaced Sonic in my game. Japanese style please (Not even talking random ass colors for the box art, just the character designs)

    I too, am hoping they decide to bring back the classic art style. Not everyone likes new Sonic, but classic Sonic is almost as timeless as Mickey Mouse. It probably won't happen, but I think this would be the most appropriate time to bring it back if they decide to.

    They wouldn't have shown Sonic in silhouette if there was no surprise in store.

    I for one am going to shed man tears when I see classic Sonic return. It would be like reuniting with your best childhood friend who you thought was dead. Not to sound like a pussy but it IS going to be emotional for some.

    Oh and new Sonic is a complete raving cunt. I don't want his green eyes, big shoes or snarling teeth anywhere near this.

    I'm just going to say that I am thrilled, but also being cautious with my expectations and hopes.

    I am wishing for the return of the original spring sound though. If a new game (not ssbb) includes this sound, I can die happy.

    Don't know, I like both designs... the classic, at the time of Sonic CD, was pretty damn awesome. But the new has evolved over 10 years to the point of Unleashed, where it's lively and full of character. Thankfully they won't do a full reverse on all games to the old design.

    BTW, did you ever think "new" has been around longer than the classic, now? Wow.

    And yes, if use the classic, please use the Japanese one, the American one sucks dicks.

    Oh man, didn't the old music just make Sonic look like such a badass? At my school, the Sonic fans were the cool kids without a doubt!

    The music from SA2 onwards was for the kids who don't wash, get the shit kicked out of them and cut themselves to get attention.

    So let's go ahead and gush our desires, even though they're all likely to be horribly crushed as time goes by.

    I want a game that plays like Sonic 3&K. Everything they'd done to that point culminated in that title, and it seems like a step backwards to go forward with anything else. Failing that, maybe just something like Sonic 2.

    Focus less on speed, focus more on pinball physics and unique level design that has elements of platforming and insane whoamg speed delicately mixed, yet seamlessly a part of one another such that speed smoothly transitions into platforming, which then opens up to speed, which smoothly transitions into platforming, etc. Add unique gimmicks for the platforming segments, and a few in the speed ones designed to make use of Sonic's speed in unique fashions (the swings in Mushroom Hill come to mind - come at them fast enough and you can launch yourself high, but come at them slowly and you'd just swing back and forth).

    Ditch the goddamn Egg Pawns; give us some real, bona fide animal badniks to bop.

    Use Zones and Acts. Come up with original ideas for said levels - an autumnal forest hasn't really been done (outside of Mushroom Hill, but that didn't really FEEL like an autumnal forest more than it felt like the summer forest from Act 1 with a palette change).

    Keep other characters to cameos only, except Tails and Knuckles (if you can come up with a DAMN good excuse for him to be in the game and not watching over the Master Emerald like the stoic he is). If they are included, make the level design varied enough that playing as the other characters will reveal new heretofore unseen paths by utilizing their special characteristics - flying and crashing through walls/climbing, respectively. Also, give Sonic an ability that allows him to have his own separate paths, as that was a rather major oversight in S3&K (Tails could see all of Sonic's path, plus a few rooms of his own; Knuckles often used Sonic's path, but at least he deviated enough due to his low jump to make Sonic's unique from his own).

    Too much to ask? Probably. Okay, then, just make Sonic Advance 1, but in HD. It wasn't as good as the Genesis games, but damnit it was close enough, and STILL far better than anything that came after it.

    You say that like Sonic Unleashed didn't have the most culturally diverse and rich soundtrack (not to mention enjoyable seen in a long time.

    Though a return to the twee, catchy ditties of old would be nice.
