I'm not touching Black Knight with a 5½ foot pole either, but the youtube footage of twitchy animation, gimped abilites, bad level design, so on and so forth showed me everything I needed to see.

Sonic 06 is such a wretched piece of shit.

That's about all I've got. I could barely make it through the first two levels of the game as Sonic. Silver's gameplay from the one level I tolerated was kind of fun though.

I can't imagine SEGA/Microsoft reworking the broken physics bugs in Sonic '06, but if they did, I'd actually be really happy. I've said this before - the game has redeeming elements, and if I didn't have to play around the glitches, I'd seriously call it a good game. Even now, if they were to just take Silver's story alone and sell it for five bucks, I'd call it enjoyable.

The load times are kind of tolerable on the 360 when it's on the hard drive (that's how I play it); about as bad as Sonic Unleashed's. The only problem is how often you see them (NOW LOADING/you must face the test of courage/NOW LOADING/oh god I'm dead/NOW LOADING/you lose/NOW LOADING/will you take the test of courage?/NOW LOADING/you must face the test of courage).

You know, the fact that the storyline nullifies itself at the end literally means that the game never happened - not affecting anything afterwards after all, getting all the suckiness contained into '06 and not spreading onto anything else. Which I guess is good :P

Looks like somebody at Sega wanted to make a fanfic and it turned into an official game :psyduck:

  5. I believe it.

There's a small part of me that wishes Silver would've died with the game's ending, but I mean...once you've established a character you can't just get rid of it, right?

Can someone explain why the animation glitches? I mean, they had it right when they recorded this prototype version video footage seen in this youtube video..

They even have the proper mach speed zone wall-kick animation in the video. What could have caused these animations to get messed up so badly in the final game?

Sonic is a game series for CHILDREN. CHILDREN, dammit, CHILDREN. And what's Sonic Team trying to do with it? Making Sonic games aimed at MATURE audiences. And that's WRONG.
Think about the children, dammit. I'm sick of seeing that almost every damn video game is violent in one way or another. GTA clones, Halo clones, ripoffs and whatnot. Drug dealers and whores, racist and nazi douchebags, the "LOL LETS SHOT RANDOM PPL FER NO REEZN" type of gameplay which gets fucking boring once it's in every video game out there. And then we wonder why are children like they are. And they want Sonic to go in that direction, too? Seriously. I'm not fucking interested in seeing random furries doing drugs and fucking each other. I'm not interested in playing Sonic games where the enviroment is a dope and the music is made by some wannabe rapper gangsta going "I'm THE FASTEST MOTHERFUCKER IN YO LAND HOMIE, AND I DROPPED MAH BUTTAH TOAST YO." And I doubt ANYONE is.

Please, don't misunderstand me. I really like Quake III, Devil May Cry, C&C and shoot-em-ups. But it's sickening to see that EVERY video game is a game of that kind, and the most of it are just ridiculous ripoffs. What's the point of all this totally unnecesarry violence?

Meh. Now on-topic though, they just want to get more money by this, proving what a shitty cashcow Sonic is. Fuck you Sega Sammy Shitholdings. Just fuck you.

Interesting, but also notice in this build that Sonic's basic movement is still ponderously slow, the homing attack still appears to have that delay...things of this sort had been sucking even longer. By this point the thing was being set up for pretty likely mediocrity.

But, yes, to mess up minor shit that's functional is one telling clue of some kind of mid-development crisis.

The problem is, it wasn't aimed at children originally. Sega didn't want to steal Nintendo's audience, as they knew that it would have been suicide. They went for those that Nintendo didn't pay so much attention, which were mostly teens (as adults rarely would play games back then). That was the target public Sonic (and most Sega games) had back then.

It's sad really. I wonder if at one point in development Sonic's gameplay WAS fully functional and faster. I would love it if some some super early build was found that actually followed what those early screenshots (of Sonic falling over a huge field, and actually being fast) promised. Actually, if there was such a build, I would be even more disappointed in what came of the game. I never liked how Sonic was being placed in the real world AGAIN as if it were something new. All of the main 3d Sonic games except for Sonic Heroes went for some sort of real world approach. Sonic Adventure was the least realistic. Heroes went back to the classic-like environments, and mostly simple story-line. The team gimmick killed it for me. If only a game was made that combined all of the strong points of the 3d and 2d games. Anyway, sorry for going off-topic a bit. I can't look forward to the games on demand Xbox 360 version, as I don't have an Xbox 360, but I have the PS3 version. Most likely, not much will be changed, but if SEGA (and Microsoft?...) actually cares, they should try fixing what is easily possible to fix in Sonic 06 (like the animation flaws that should not be there, some slowdown issues, it would be nice if they could add action gauge functionality with the gems, Omega's hover etc. like it says in the manual, and several glitches that they should have seen in the countless videos on youtube or other video sites.) I personally would prefer if SEGA focusses its work on the next Sonic game, and make it even better than Unleashed. (Possibly incorporate more Sonic Adventure 1 style gameplay, Unleashed gameplay, and platforming) SEGA could make remakes of the best Sonic 06 levels. (Crisis City, Kingdom Valley, Radical Train Tropical Jungle - revamp with no Elise and layout changes to make up for the disappearance of Elise.) ...I just made a big post. I hope it did not go too off-topic.

Didn't they pretty much recon everything with the ending? I mean they most have seen this towards end if development and then said ' Screw this, recon that shit out NOW! '

Its a shame the game is supposed to be so badly programmed becuase it looked well from screenshots, IMO.

If SEGA made that ending for the purpose of hiding the failure of Sonic 06, then that makes it even worse. They could have taken longer to fix the game more, or even scrap the gameplay engine for one that worked with Sonic's gameplay mechanics, and speed. Also, why is it that this is the only 3d Sonic game that requires Sonic to homing attack to destroy enemies? Same thing with Knuckles' glide. MORE major programming errors?

Mix it with the Bounce Attack. Such as it is, that helps quite a bit.

I remember someone from CulT trying the PS3 version at E3 that year and finding to his horror that jumping no longer cut it as an attack. If intentional (and I don't see it being otherwise), that's a bonehead manuever they had to have had in mind for a while.

Now they're trying to target a slightly younger audience trying to appear mature. 11-year-olds who love guns and explosions.

Well, I wasn't considering it in that context but that can be true to an extent. I was thinking about the stupid, odd and slightly disturbing love story that was in the game from what I've heard. I admit I haven't played the game and from hearing about it, I don't think I'd want to waste my time playing a broken game!

Some of you may not have liked the whole Werehog thing ( again, not having played that game either, I can't give proper judgement. ) but it least it didn't sound dirty and disturbing!

    MIDI-to-SMPS-conversions, mostly. Takin' requests, too.
Yer kinda provin' me point - the series can grow up, yet the fans dun want it to - have THEY grown up? 8D

True that, I guess we're all have a nostalgia factor at play here. There is nothing wrong with experimentation and it should be encouraged ( I seem have to being one of the few people who actually liked the concept of Shadow welding guns in his game and no, haven't played that one either. God, I need to start playing catch up! ), I guess the problem is the fans who want things to remain static and the same thing.

If that was to be the case, the fans would soon be complaining that things are always the same and want change. The developer does that and when the fans see it, they backlash! I think you get my point here.

I do agree that Sega has pulled WAY too many characters out of their asses in recent times for their own good, though.

Well, I really don't think the series should try to be what it isn't. Like they say, "Mario will never start shooting hookers."

There's a difference between being a mature game and trying to approach potentially mature themes immaturely (as per "HEH HEH. BOOBS. HEH" and the like).

Microsoft gave a seemingly full description of the many features of the upcoming XBOX 360 update. In this description they listed the games planned for the launch of "Games on Demand", but Sonic 06, although mentioned, wasn't included in the list of launch titles:

Assuming that this was originally meant to be a launch game, as some thought, it seems that that it may have been delayed. There are many bugs to iron out if Sega is considering working on it. (If they are, I hope they release an update for those of us that have the original version.)

    They even cited it.

Those are the game for the launch day. More will come in future, and Sonic 2006 will probably be one of them.

Don't underastimate that game. It sold pretty well.
