On the Screwattack website tonight's (November 25th 2008) Live "Out of The Box" review will be Sonic Unleashed.

They are currently accepting questions that they answer during the show.

Im not sure whether it will be the Wii/PS2 or the 360/PS3 version.

For those not familiar with Screwattack. they archive their live shows about a week later. (so if you miss it live you can still see it)

    UPDATE - 10th March 2009
Tonight at 5pm CST this time they will be reviewing Sonic and the Black Knight in their "Out of the Box" review.

I hope the Xbox 360/PS3 version, because it defines the game.

I'm too lazy to register just to post this, but voltaire had a quote that went something like "don't let the persuit of the perfect blind you from the good" and I think that sums up a lot of reactions to this game. If I could ask them one thing, it's are they judging this game based on their opinions of what a sonic game should be, or if they're judging it as a game in and of itself.

Their response to that question would tell me if I would consider paying attention to them.

They say "Is this the return of the hedgehog or is it more of the same?" which implies to me that they are judging it as a Sonic game. However Out of the Box usually has multiple reviewers. Typically one of them is not too familiar with the series. I can't say whether this is the case this time though.

They actually first upload it on their Blip account (http://screwattack.blip.tv/) before they put it on the site. (which links to the videos on Blip)

Anyway, in the forums they said High School Ben will be playing the game, which is not surprising since he's a Sonic fan. (Sonic & Knuckles collection for PC being his first hardcore game)

Ugh, ScrewAttack? They're not exactly the most credible source when it comes to Sega related stuff. They usually go gabby over anything pertaining to Mario, Mega Man, Metroid, Contra or any franchise that debuted in the NES era.

I at least hope Destin is not one of the reviewers. Please God, not him.

He wont be. Destin is on holiday at the moment. Thats why Craig is hosting Hard News this week. Also, as TimmiT said, High School Ben is a fan of the Sonic series, so he is quite a credible source.

Most of the time it's just 2 players every game, and 1 of them is always Stuttering Craig. And the other one is High School Ben this time.
The only exception was Guitar Hero World Tour, because it was a party game.

Opinion invalidated within seconds of beginning the video. "People said this was going to be different from Sonic 360 and Sonic Heroes... and it's the same."

I got so bored of their awful coverage. They're complaining that the hedegohog engine needs to be scrapped because you can control sonic enough, and you don't have traction. Thats about the worst reason I've heard. Traction!, do they even know what traction is. Also, that's what quickstep is there for, controlling speed.

Geez, why are reviewers giving this game such a hard time. It's like they're judging it before it even comes out. Pfft

Their misinformation about the hedgehog engine got me all pissed. "This hedgehog engine, the same engine they've used in the past... they need to scrap it. Start over from scratch, because as it's shown us time and time again, it doesn't work." "they should have got rid of it a long time ago!" "yeah."

    so much wrong...

EDIT: The worst part was when they said "this controls exactly as bad as Sonic 360"

or when they said "the 2D sections are terrible. They flat out don't work."

Or when stuttering craig said he was confused by the camera on where to go, when the camera was directly looking down on a square room with one of the walls outlined in blue, with a giant green reticule on it.

Or the fact that they admitted that had this game not starred sonic, but a new character, that reviews would be more positive.

Or when the guy claimed he beat the game, then didn't know how to boost or got stuck under a moving platform.

... And as expected, the live review went absolutely nowhere.

How uninformed can these people be? "Scrap the Hedgehog Engine"? Did they even know what they were talking about at all? Really, that was pointless, and now ScrewAttack's blind "retro" viewers are convinced the game actually sucks. Honestly, do they even remember how badly Sonic 2006 controlled? If they did, they would have lost all their lives on that first stage alone.

I used to love ScrewAttack, but they have completely fallen off the deep end. :psyduck:

The question of the week or whatever went like this:

"Since the suck has been injected into sonic (*fat lady grins at the camera while craig offscreen shouts "nice!"), should sonic just die?"

That was their question of the week for this game. The writer of that question won a copy of some new pokemon game, and craig mentioned "you know you're gonna win a prize when you mention the suck in your question!"

How about when they said that, at worst, the 2D sections were terrible, and at best, "they're like, 'oh this isn't so awful but it's bad."

they're describing the 2D sections here, folks. The Sonic 2D sections. They also said they control worse than Sonic 360 (they said that several times, actually).

I really should have known better than to expect any sort of respectable Sonic feature on ScrewAttack. They gave a "Top 5 Best and Worst" feature for Sonic instead of separate "Top 10 Best" and "Top 10 Worst" features like they did with Mario, and the selection blew of course. They don't hesitate to bash Sega and Sonic on their awful Hard News feature. And even High School Ben doesn't seem to know what he's talking about anymore (Sorry, Captain S fans).

Quite frankly, ScrewAttack has become the gaming equivalent of Fox News. They even have their own Bill O'Reilly.

This game is great, and SEGA should be proud of doing some good. I think these reviewers are just so attached to Sonic 06 that they can not grasp that the new Sonic game does not "suck".

Holy cow, fuck these guys. Really. I mean yeah I only have the PS2 version but I can control Sonic just fine thank you. Yeah it's a little slippery, but that's what side step and dash are for. My god, how uninformed can you be? We gotta write letters to Sega or something, let them know they did good. I'm really getting pissed at these bias reviewers . Get your heads out of your asses and review the game honestly.

Shit like this is what causes Sega to not follow suit when they do something good.

Now. All we have to wait is for them to praise Black Knight and watch another storybook game to come out and for Unleashed to never get a sequal.
